What kind of dirt/substrate do you use in the nest box? Our girl has never laid eggs and has a belly full of eggs and trying to encourage her to lay them.
Hey, since I acquired my female bearded dragon, she has been pregnant. How long does it typically take to lay egg? I'm worried that she won't be able to pass it out or have an egg binding because she's been pregnant for exactly one month. Thanks🙏
A bearded dragon is typically gravid for 4-6 weeks. If you have concerns about her health or if she seems like she's losing weight, not eating, and lethargic, then it's time for a vet trip.
My female laid eggs and it turned into a fiasco - she was only just healthy enough for her body to form the eggs and lay them, and afterward, she was so depleted of the calcium and D she could barely move for days, I had to mix up a food and vitamin slurry for her, it took a few weeks for her to recover. I adopted her as an adult, and she had not been well cared for.
Unfortunately producing clutches in an unhealthy dragon can quickly become dangerous, even deadly. It's exhausting work and it pretty severely depletes calcium stores. During breeding season, our females are given as much food as they're willing to eat. Hopefully with proper care, any future clutches should go much better for your dragon. There are some vets out there that are qualified to do a spay on a dragon should it be a reoccurring problem.
Hi.... I'm about to buy a 3 year old female as a first timer... Is there any advice you could give me before I do? Most RU-vid videos are about males. Thank you. Nice video.
Generally once they start laying eggs, the process is done within a few hours or less. If they're laying a few straggler eggs several days after or if you can still feel some in their belly, it's important to watch for egg binding.
Collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens, cilantro, celery tops, arugala (kale is ok sometimes, but it is calcium binding, so don't feed kale every day)
We feed primarily turnip greens and mustard greens, occasionally collard, but only for adults as it's tougher to eat when it comes to our babies. There are lots of other options that can be rotated in as well, we encourage owners to provide a variety if possible.
I just went to feed my bearded dragons I have a boy and a girl in the same cage and there is 15 eggs there on the surface of the cage and I have no clue on what to do
Housing a male and female together can be problematic if you aren't prepared for fertilized eggs. They will reproduce. She needs plenty of extra food, extra calcium supplements, and a lay bin or box with substrate so she can dig and lay her eggs successfully. Not providing these things can result in complications later, such as egg-binding or metabolic bone disease. A healthy bearded dragon can lay eggs at least every few months. While a female can occasionally just lay infertile eggs on her own, housing her with a male will almost guarantee eggs.
