I see my medication not as a magic pill that will fix everything like the end of a fairytale, but as a tool i can use that will give me the ability to do other things to help my ADHD (like meditation, therapy, organising, exercise)
Thanks for saying this! I felt the exact same way. A few weeks in I started feeling still scattered, but less overwhelmed if this makes sense. I still have anxiety and still the same brain, but somehow I can actually recognize what's going on and better find a solution that just "feel bad". The moment I knew it was working was when I took my son to his karate practice, was able to sit in my car and wait patiently, drive home and felt quite alright, even good to say the least. Off meds, I would bee feeling like it was a struggle. Another thing is it depends who I am with. Some people I just can not connect with and others I can. It has helped me feel more confident and actually made me spend less money, because instead of hoarding, I can wait and plan. Today I was aggressive with someone but to be fair, I was irritated all morning with a particular person, but that rarely happens. I have also been able to sleep with calm music.
Subbed. You're absolutely right about the 30 day supply. The most I've seen is 28 supply. I'm at 40 mg of adderal daily and feel nothing but the side effects. I hope Ritalin is the right meds for me because the journey is really discouraging. Getting the diagnosis took me a whole year. But I see people who don't need it only take 1 visit. Wtf?? I honestly think if you can afford it, get a genetic test done to determine which med is best for you dealing with adhd. Not fda approved, but I heard it saves months of trial and error.
I dont see the medication making much of a diffrence maybe less impulsive. I have the lidocaine ineffective combined type. Things work better when they work like ibuprofen or amanita muscaria mushroom
Thank you for the information. I am newly diagnosed. One week on Vyvanse. So far ok. Could you please tell me what tools you are talking about when your meds run out and your energy nose dives? I just want some ideas to start with
It honestly depends on WHY my energy is down. If it’s hormonal, I can’t do much besides sleep it off and plan very conservatively. I’m no longer on meds, but some prescribers will work with you to help increase your dosage on low energy days, too. If my energy is low for seemingly no reason? I try to make sure I’ve eaten or drunk enough water that day. And finally, try to keep track of how long you’ve been forcing yourself to focus. Focus is a limited resource for even neurotypical people, and pushing yourself too far can result in exhaustion.
I started taking it. Has had no effect so far. Mind you starting me on 5mg morning and another 5mg in the afternoon. I am 6.2 and 103kg. Only been on it 8 days.was expecting a miracle. A bit disheartening.
So I don’t know your situation 100%, but it could be that you’re titrating. That’s super common, and it’s common for you to be started at a very low dose to make sure your body doesn’t respond to it negatively. 5mg is SUPER low for most meds I know of, so it would be a good idea to mention to your prescriber that you’re not feeling anything so they can adjust accordingly.
I weigh 58 and i take 5mg in the morning, afternoon and 2,5 in the evening. It helps with the sensory issues and my brain is indeed quieter. Other than that, you have to do the rest yourself. But it makes doing stuff a bit easier. After the pill loses it's working at around 20.00 i'm back to before. But i go to bed at 21.00 so that's ok.
Anything is possible, but keep in mind that while what I list is common, we're all very different. It could be that that's just how your body reacts to Ritalin. It could also be that there's something going on with your dopamine receptors to the point where your balance of dopamine is more conducive to energy. This alone isn't a guarantee of anything except that your body responds to the medicine with feeling energetic.
I don’t know where she’s coming from with these “facts”. Never noticed the medication stop working for me. And I don’t believe that’s a fact what she’s saying about juices. In fact for me and what I’ve been told is eating lower carbs/paleo and juices etc makes the mediation even more active and stronger in your system and I have felt that for sure. It’s like if you haven’t eaten you can feel the medication more strongly.
I hardly made it two days (taking 2x10 a day) on Methylphenidate, I was lethargic, apathetic, depressed, and eventually so sick I could not move (felt like deadly hung over while car sick simultaneously) .... not the start I was hoping for, as I've heard so many like you saying it's incredible at first. So NO, your experience is not the universal, and that should be mentioned.
So I did preface my experience with “if it’s the right medication for you.” If your body is happy with the medication, you don’t have those responses. I’m sorry that this happened to you, but also I said nowhere in this video that my experience was universal. I definitely urge everyone who watches any video on the internet anywhere to make sure that they’re taking everything in their own context. I hope you find something that works well for you ❤️
@@alecjordan6100 I may be very sensitive, on Tentin now and taking 2.5 mg twica a dayas a start and those already feel like a good choice. However sleep is also impacted on this minor dose. Taking it slow 👍
I've been on Adderall for about a year and a half and can't believe people use this to party when it can make me literally forget to get out of my chair.
I’m from Australia and I just got in Ritalin, and because we have a really good healthcare system, the government subsides a lot of costs, so my adhd meds only cost me $50
@@SolomonGrod just a forehead, there are coping mechanisms and masking mechanisms, so the first is what you do to reduce the symptoms of ADHD and not trigger it , the latter is how you deal with it despite being there, even after medication you still need coping mechanisms, so mainly I ate a lot , what saved me is I usually cook healthy I don't eat much junkfood but I still became overweight (3 month into medication i've lost 5 kg , my body looks so much better) because everytime I had to study I had to eat , your sex drive is unrealistically strong even compared to people at my age , I can't sit without moving my limbs or concentrate well but music helps , what other people take 2 hrs to study i would take 5-6 , so mainly just I studied on the expense of my hobbies , medication doesn't make you study for a super long period , rather short to intermediate but at least you get better focus , still with effort , organizing sleep is by far the #1 factor that helps , even my doctor told me that and i truly felt that , lack of good sleep increases adhd symptoms and negates medication effect , study techniques are very important try to go for active learning with questions and flashcards , don't solve a million questions , go for 10 per sitting and have multiple blocks through the day , be realistic with your expectations as well , if you have any questions shoot.
Hi, you mention coffee makes you sleepy.. me too! Why is that? I’ve been trying to find the reason why. I’m about to start biphentin, concerta wasn’t working when the dose was raising. Thank you , first time here.

its because adhd people have too little dopamine and noradrenaline. This results into your brain trying to get more dopamine and noradrenaline, to a more balanced, 'normal' level, which results into adhd. Coffee releases noradrenaline (and very indirect a little dopamine) in your brain. When (most) adhd people drink coffee or any kind of caffeine, it gets your noradrenaline to a 'normal' level, meaning: you actually feel more calm. Since adhd people are not used to having this 'normal' level, it feels like youre getting sleepy. This is why adhd meds can make you feel sleepy aswell. A very short cut explanation but hope this helps :)
Hi there! Thnx for ur content! :) i took concerta 18mg and i felt as if i smoked weed and all was great until the crash came . Aaaaawful , horrible headacke , stomach pain, shaking in bed, spasms...man... it lasted 4 entire days , didnt try again. Is this normal?
Thank you for this video 💜 Finally back on medication and feeling lost . I stopped to pregnancy and nursing and it’s been hell to get back on it now that I’ve been ready. I’m hopeful to find the right dosage and the right amount of patience for myself .
