You need to look deeper. Taurasi was on Olympic team as rookie in 2004 as #1 pick in draft. What experience in WNBA? Candace Parker was on Olympic team in 2008 as rookie and #1 draft pick. Breanna Stewart was on Olympic team in 2016 as rookie and #1 draft pick. Itwas a S N U B!

I don' t have a problem with Clark not making team. Actually, I think she could use the rest to show these women what she is truly capable of. AND, if I were Clark, if a spot opened up, I wouldn't take it. What I have a problem with is why Taurasi, Stewart, Lobo, and Parker made the team in their rookie seasons. All arguments about Clark's lack of of experience and talent level go out the window because of that point. Plus, Dan, nobody is guarded like Clark - and I mean NOBODY! And yet, she still puts up pretty solid numbers.

What did it for me is that one of the players who made the team either hasn't played a game this season, or has only played 1 game this season. Why you would prioritize that player over CC is beyond me. Partly for the eyeballs on it, but also because her merits are there when it comes to making the team. It definitely could go either way and I wasn't too upset at first, but the primary reason the committee left her off is because they were worried about fan reaction when she didn't get many minutes. That is a weak, middle-school mentality argument. I don't care that she didn't make the team, but I do think that the reasons that have come to light for why she didn't are pretty bogus.

Who cares about "putting the best team on the court" if that "best team" and its League haven't generated a single dollar for over 25 years? How can it be a "best team" that no one watches? I know the WNBA and the Olympics are entirely different entities. But I think both are squandering an opportunity for woman's basketball in general. Never in the history of the WNBA has one player totally infused the league with viewership, which equates to money & profit. Maybe the players chosen are the best for the individual tournament, but lets be real. Caitlin is the real deal which can't be judged in a rookie season on a bad team (and don't bother with the turnover stat). Her replacing anyone on that team will not downgrade the team to being out of contention. It's nobody's fault that right now that Caitlin is bigger than the game, because her popularity is there, period. Capitalize on it, and don't cave to the incredible pettiness that's been witnessed by so many since Caitlin was drafted.

⁠⁠ Rookies have been on the Olympic team before. Rebecca Lobo in 1996, Diana Taurasi in 2002, Candace Parker in 2008 and Breanna Stewart in 2016. None of these players were the all time NCAA scoring champions as CC is,…in both the men’s and women’s BB. Every NBA and WNBA superstar who played in the NCAA has been out scored by CC. CC in her rookie season, has certainly out performed the other previous rookies that made the team. Besides being the first WNBA player to 200 points and 75 assists, here’s how CC stacks up against Diana Taurasi and the rest of the WNBA players this season. Total points scored CC - 14 DT - 15 3pt made CC - 4 DT - 4 assists CC - 4 DT - 79 rebounds CC - 25 DT - 35 steals CC - 17 DT - 65 Blocks CC -18 DT - 90 This year, CC has outperformed Taurasi in nearly every category!!

It doesn't look as easy for as it was in college because her Fever teammates and coach suck and the teams they have played against so far are some of the top tier WNBA teams. She has Steph Curry gravity and gives her teammates so many open looks that they can't make - the bigs can't finish at the rim - her coach is unable to make adjustments to take advantage of Clark's shooting. This Olympic team isn't losing with or without Caitlin, so it's not even about winning. Also, she's 22 and in the best shape of her life and one long season isn't going to kill her, especially with the teammates she would have and the minutes that she apparently wouldn't be playing anyway. It's such a huge marketing miss for women's hoop that's it's laughable. They were given a 1997 Tiger Woods opportunity here and they blew it, although I suspect they will have another chance as there are some injured players on the roster. But I wouldn't be surprise if they blow that one too!

Clark is being given everyones best game because they envy her and that has a lot to do with Clark and turnovers and her best scoring wise. She also has crappy teammates who bumble passes. Same idea when you win the superbowl, they get everyones best. Clark is going to prove she is one of the best, the fans see it and she broke scoring records in college. The idea that 12 are better? No they aren't. 42 years old and Clark is better than her in every statistical category this season. They want Diana Taurasi to get 6 gold medals totally a political move. Clark’s level of success right now on the Fever is hampered by how bad her team is. Teams have only one concern when playing the Fever- Caitlyn Clark. Double teams after double teams- and nobody on the Fever can make them pay. Put Clark on an AVERAGE team and she averages 25-30 easy.

Taurasi is 42 years old and playing mediocre games. Brittney Griner played ONE game this year because she's injured. Both are on Team USA. Also, Taurasi played on Team USA before she ever played a single WNBA game. CC is the DRAW, millions of new WBB fans are NOT tuning in to watch Taurasi and Gray. Lost opportunity to elevate WBB in the Olympics, without CC very few mainstream sports fans will watch WBB.

Diana Taurasi's stats are below Clarks and a lot of other W players. She's a step slow. Chelsea Grey hasn't played a game since last Oct. and is listed as injured. Griner has played all of two games, so we don't know how she's playing right now. They say "Clark didn't try out and that's the reason". If so, they could have said that back in May. Taurasi and Stewart made the team before they were in the W....They say her fans will be mad if she doesn't play much. They're madder that she didn't make the team. There's more going on here. I think its still jealousy. But one thing for sure, me, my family, my friends, we are changing channels when WBB comes on the olympics.

They don’t “need” any specific player on the team. They’re going to win regardless. They couldn’t take off Wilson and still win. They should be taking every opportunity to grow the sport.

Dan please! It doesn't matter who's the 10th best player or the 15th best. There is only 1 that makes it matter. Shes a rookie on a young team. They need a nba arena for 2-9 vs 0-10 game. You could watch them win there 8 gold medal in a row. I Because its irrelevant! I wont even be able to turn NBC now knowing they let them get away with this!

Clark's stats are better than Taurasi's and certainly better than Griner's or Gray's. Clark is also the most double-teamed player in the WNBA, playing on the worst team in the WNBA, coming off a hard NCAA season, and playing for a coach that plays a plodding style, AND she is still successful in spite of all this! All this narrative that she isn't one of the top 12 players is utter baloney. Dan Patrick comes off as a stupid apologist for this bad decision.

The BS show for NBC. CC is clearly the best player in the league. Every team they play defends her full court, they design all their defensive help around stopping CC. If CC decided to shoot every time down the floor she would average 35 a game.

Are you watching her games?! She’s defended full court. She gets triple teamed. She makes a great pass and the other player fumbles the pass out of bounds, misses the layup or wide open three. Where is Clark struggling?

Do women want to grow the game and get paid? Caitlin Clark brings that, and not one other women in the whole of that league even comes close. Too not pick her shows, without doubt, that with Caitlin's popularity being the given reason for her being left out. Those Women on the team and the couch and the committee hate her more than they want to grow the game and get paid. Simple!

I think the select committee made a mistake. Mr. Patrick pointed out many arguments pro and con CC being in the Olympic team. But he didn't mention the state of the WNBA right now. Does the WNBA and Women's basketball need viewers and to grow the game? Right now when it's still being subsidized by the NBA? And can these women put aside their egos to do this? Looks like their egos are more important than growing the game. Missed opportunity.

Christian Laetner was on the Dream Team after winning another national championship. The reason you don't remember him on the team is because there were a bunch of experienced players putting together the greatest team ever assembled. Clark will have her time.
