Hi Nick, Back in the day, I didn’t take spares to gigs as my M102 and 122 were relatively new (I am that old), but it did take a frequently use a mains extension lead. Something I did learn to take was a set of safety pins after an incident carrying the Hammond upstairs at a venue when I split my trousers from front to belt. That was a draughty one. Cheers.
I turned up to my second gig with a band with no sticks. Thankfully being London there was a local studio that sold sticks ! I also set my kit up at an avenue and realised my hi-hat stand was still at home. Local drummer saved the day. Thank you sir whoever wherever you are. The only two incidents in many years of gigging thankfully.
A multitool of some kind is a lifesaver at gigs. You never know what you might need to fix something small (or maybe not so small). What I take is similar to the multiple bags you shared. I have found, especially when you are a fill in or hired person for a gig, having extra leads/cables, adapters, valves/tubes, DI boxes, etc. can mean you are more likely to be called on next time because not only do you provide your talent but you provide something extra. It also shows you are prepared and ready to go. Now, one thing I tend to carry in addition to what you mentioned is a small drumstick bag with some extra drumsticks, brushes, rutes, and drum keys just in case as well. Like your case of valves/tubes it stays in the vehicle but is available just in case.

I used to carry around an AKG D112 kick drum mic for the Leslie woofer. Although it didn't sound too bad I've come to the realisation that kick drum mics aren't the way to go and here is why. Kick drum mics are typically pronouncing the range of, let's say, 200 Hz and below. In turn, there's sometimes a sort of scooped lower midrange. If you use a Leslie 122/142 or 147/145 with 800 Hz crossover there's still plenty of midrange coming from the woofer. Traditional Hammond Jazz organ players are usually playing bass pedals and in that case the kick drum mic works fine. However, in every other situation where you don't play bass pedals you would have a bass guitar player (in addition to the drummer who would also mic up his kit and use a kick drum mic for the bass drum). So, you're basically interfering with the tone of the other guys if you use a kick drum mic. Moreover, you have to deal with that scooped lower midrange.
I try to take as little as possible now - my knees can't take it (Rhodes 88 has been in the cupboard for 15 years now!) Recently my small setup - which I use exclusively with Jon Langford - has been an old Roland FP3 with a recent addition of a Yamaha CK61 on top. The Roland is the piano sound, and the CK provides Wurli in External midi control and Hammond in Local mode. I run the Roland through the inputs of the CK as a very basic mixer then the entire output goes into a Boss Katana 100 via Aux IN straight to the power amp - as I use the preamp stage for lap steel. It all works surprisingly well as the Katana speaker is very neutral as the voicing comes in the preamp stage.. Engineer just puts a decent mic in front - the Katana is really just a monitor for me. Best thing is its all light! In the past my rig was purely the Rhodes into a 2x12 valve amp with tremolo. I had a wah and copicat. When I toured in the early 2000s, I had the M102 and Leslie 145 with the Roland FP3 on top. Guitar went through a Roland Microcube into the line in on the M102 to get to the Leslie. I had no friends at the end of a gig...
Do modern day Leslie's still use seperate fast and slow motors for the horn and a seperate fast and slow motors for the bass rotor❓ Just wondering if there has been a change to the original recipe. Anything for sweaty hands or sticky keys? Smears go better if the hands are slick. What do I use? Talc powder on guitar. My guitar has got white power in the cracks and tight places after a gig. But that's no good on keys. I tried for awhile but the powder got in the keys and my midi controller got a dead spot.
@@nickfoley7348 ah. I just bought the leslie2101 mk2 , and I can't stop the drawbars from going through the 11 pins... Maybe it's just me, still figuring out how to set it up. Which is why I asked - I was just about to buy the same a/b switch, and then I thought, no, that won't work. And now I ordered the studio12 cable.
