Postive guy! Im from Toowoomba, spent years away, and moved back for a bit, and i realized it's such a nice place and an easy place to live. It's pretty, affordable.
Moved to Toowoomba 2 years ago and it is the best place just fantastic bought a great Queensland house and have put in a garden of our dreams and it has grown like toppsey in just over a year ---so good ---plenty of work too if you want it or indeed need it
I grew up there but left in 1986 at 21 to continue my trade in Canberra. Loved growing up there on the edge of the range with views of the Lockyer valley. Try to get back up there from Brisbane at least twice a year, love the slower pace.
Many fond memories of Toowoomba. Lived at southbrook for years and worked and played in Toowoomba in my younger years . Fondest memories are chucking laps in the 90s and Noughties . So much fun and mischief. Great town . 👍
Haha way to many shops in grand central 😅😂 I think the people complaining about a lot of crime are just closer to those issues or create unnecessary drama honestly.
I quite like toowoomba, moved here from NZ a year ago, didn't have the best of luck first getting here, within a month had 2 of our vehicles stolen in south toowoomba area, but since then havnt had any issues, live close to grande now and been enjoying life since!
@JohnnyTheG2 exactly it brother 😅 both cars at the same time, happen to just have strangers walk into our house and help themselves early in the morning before any of us were awake, we had people in and out the house all around the clock and missed locking the front door, kicked ourselves for abit but learnt from it now and the car was covered by insurance atleast 😅
Man, Toowoomba is great. I’m born and raised on the Gold Coast but lived in Warwick 2017-2019 and travelled to ‘the bit city’ Toowoomba numerous times during that time. I especially love the architecture and would move there in a heartbeat if I could convince my wife.
Good on ya mate for choosing Toowoomba. Used t live there many years ago: went t school n uni there. Nice town. Still visit family n friends there. Enjoy your Toowoomba experience!!
It's the Toowoomba Council that has us earning a bad rap on all the polls. Worst drivers, but the Council has installed lights retroactively and has 2 lanes into the intersection and only 1 lane exiting. So many are like this, and most roundabouts aren't much better. Every time they reworked the main streets in the CBD, we lost car parks. The ring road system they tried was a nightmare, done primarily to stop the lapping. I have lived here for over 50 years . I love it here. The juvenile crime has worsened in the past ten years due to an increase in migrant population. Putting stress on available housing and communities. Cultural differences and language barriers have contributed to juvenile crime rates escalating. Most crimes are happening at night in the suburbs and are mainly car theft or break and enters. This is why you haven't seen it. We lived beside one family where all but the mother had a criminal record. Their juvenile son stole dozens of cars (even his own father's car) and drove them up and down our street to taunt his parents and the Police before destroying them. So learn to always secure your house and car and how to navigate our intersections and life here can be the best ever. The Carbarlah Markets on the last Sunday of the month are the best.
Thanks for your comment! I’ve had 2 car break ins over my 7 years here but I’d contribute that to my old car having locking problems. If people aren’t locking their house correctly then that’s just plain silly hey. Migrants contribute to the driving issue a tone as well, the amount of times I’m pulling my hair out while driving is insane 😂
I’ve been living in Toowoomba for nearly three years and I really like it. The seasons are varied, better than Melbourne where I lived for several years, the parks and gardens are spectacular and there are so many activities, particularly cultural /music shows, all year round. There are cafés with Melbourne-quality coffee. I recently went op-shopping around town and found lots of good finds!
I grew up in Toowoomba but left in 2007 because i couldn't find a job. I had graduated uni and there weren't any technology jobs. I could move back because I've been full remote since 2020 but I've settled down in Brisbane. I guess lots of things have changed. I still have family there and still go to Super Rooster when i visit!
Thanks for your vid, good luck in TBA. Here is a few historical facts about Grand Central it is close to one of the very first huts built in "the Swamp" by "John" Dent approx 1850 hence, Dent St. Also, it is the site of a natural spring that is why the Perkins XXX brewery was built there around 1860. Eventually the brewery was sold and moved to Brisbane to become XXXX beer. The,n in 1965 (?) Myers built a store. I left in 1983 without any sign of Grand Central being built just memories of buying records at Myers. Good ol' Garden City. Oh, how I miss your weather and your magnificent clouds...truly.
Close to good serene camping... Close to good motorcycle routes/rides for pleasure... Close to the concentration camp Anna built... A stable population as opposed to the massive transient population of the Gold Coast... It isn't Ipswich 🤣🤣🤣... Close to Warwick 😎...
Enjoyed hearing your take on living in Toowoomba. I too love Toowoomba's weather and nature, and personally don't think the crime is as bad as other Australian towns and cities I've visited / lived in. Especially conpared to Brisbane, I feel much more safe and comfortable in Toowoomba.
Nice video. I moved to Toowoomba from Cairns 2 years ago. Toowoomba does not have the glits and glamour of Cairns but it has a lovely climate and I generally agree with your assessment. A friendly city, very convenient and a nice place place to live.
Lived in Toowoomba for 12 years now compared to where i come from this place is heaven.. its got a great war gaming community and ive made alot of close friends here
Lived in Toowoomba for nearly 10 years now with my partner. I do not get the bad rap it gets. We moved from a small country town in our early 20s because we wanted a little bit extra to do but not the hustle and bustle of a huge city. Good mix of country and city living. Its the perfect size. Plenty to do. Every pub and eatery you can imagine and if you more of a party goer there is plenty of spots to find on a late day of the week. We love it especially as people that are just into a relaxed and cruisy vibe. The weather is great. Especially in summer. You might get a few cold weeks and some bad wind but even that is happening less and less imo Nice video man.
Toowoomba is the base city for the small towns that’s within 3 hour drive radius from Toowoomba. It’s our go to for most of the medical needs. I live in a small town south west of Toowoomba which is 3hours and 20 minute drive only make the run 2-3 times a year when I have to go to the Base or St Andrew’s hospital for appointments. Always make it a 2-3 day trip just for the chance for shopping and a movie or two. Was there only 2 weeks ago. Yep it’s always windy there but that’s because the city is on top of the mountains lol. I was expecting it to be warm as the days are hot where I am now, nights are always cold due to,the desert next to us, but was surprised at how chilly it was in Toowoomba.
I've lived in a lot of places in several different countries and I wasn't born there, but IMO Toowoomba is an awesome city with a big heart. Very scenic. Great climate. Good music scene. Big enough to have everything and small enough to get around. Handy to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast. Sure a lake or river would be nice, but hey, you can't have everything.
Mate I’ve lived here for 22 years, half of that out at highfields. But as a late teen younger adult I used to despise this place thinking how boring it is. Now approaching 30 and having a family, a business etc it’s a great place for a family. Easy to get around, cheaper fuel and housing then most cities, close to rural life but also close to major cities. It’s got some of the best schools so much so that I know a lot of people that send their kids from Brisbane to go to the colleges up here. The parks are beautiful and the fitness communities are great! Nightlife isn’t quite like it was 7-10 years ago but there’s a lot more bars and cool little spots. I rate it now
That’s awesome! I think people who complain about the place are honestly just haters for no reason or they are involved it the crapy shit that does happen.
@@JohnnyTheG2 I grew up and lived in the bad parts of Wilsonton (Wine Dr) during all my teenage years. It’s 100% the people that just choose to live those type of lifestyles. Ultimately most people will complain about anything these days. I’d rather live in Toowoomba than most areas on the Gold Coast
Hi, housing prices are sky rocketing here, and finding a house or rental can be difficult, it’s still a great place to live, only an hour drive from a Capital city, Toowoomba is great 👌
I was a child there in the 60s before moving to Brisbane at the end of primary school. Best childhood ever. “Be home for dinner” mum would say. Cycling all over town, swimming in Lake Annand, working for free in soft drink bar at Athletic Oval, cleaner at the Empire Theatre in exchange for free movie admission, fielding in my dad’s cricket team if they were a player short and Billy cart racing down Geddes Street.
@@JohnnyTheG2 Have you seen Don't Got To Caboolture? It's mainly about housing, in trollleys. Crackheads losing their trolley homes.. weekly bus load o crims delivered from all 3 hard jails. When I went for a look with locked windows, it was like Pokemon, I finally found where the bin chickens go. The Island of Caboolture in the middle of the river, I would too.
i had my best mate that lived here, we pretty much sold everything we had and just moved here and moved in with his family for a short time, basically we just wanted to leave Mackay (we were living in Mackay after Townsville) Toowoomba was actually just going to be a stop over and we were going to continue to Melbourne haha but ended up staying and changing out lives completely
I just want to clarify when you say that they combined the 2 shopping centres what happened is back in 2011 there was a flood that took out where the Kmart and big w stands a shopping centre I believe it was called Clifford parks shopping centre went bankrupt and didn’t reopen so grand central bought the lot and made the expansion. Also the bottom floor of the other side of the roof you were standing on is the old ground floor of Myer witch got a lot of flood damage
Yeah the old side used to be called garden town and it was a dive from what I’m told Thanks for the extra info I didn’t know it was due to the flood 😊🤙🏻
Do you count having your movement path blocked on purpose, being threated or people spitting on you as crime? I ask because that has happened to me many times in Toowoomba as I ride my bike or walk.
I have seen the "spitter". Yeah, it's feral. Don't take it personally. It randomly attacks anyone in its path. It's only ever around for a few days before getting locked up again.
Toowoomba went downhill once they absolutely bombed the place with middle eastern "refugees". With that being said I just think toowoomba is a very easy place to live.
I live in Toowoomba, and we'll have to agree, to disagree. Boring AF. I try to stay as active as possible, but its just a dull place. Im planning on a move.
@@JohnnyTheG2 We're going to Perth. Waay better lifestyle, with a beach, the most money of anyplace in Australia (I can't get a job under 150k in my field). And the division between rich, and poor is much less noticeable. My cousin's, who are excavator operators. Are on 150k at the very least. Houses are about the same price as Toowoomba. 😀
@@JohnnyTheG2 If you visit, you'll change your mind. That's what happened to me. It's an amazing place, full of beauty, and the socioeconomics are so much better. If you were surprised by plain old Toowoomba.... West coast will blow your mind. But, different strokes, different folks. Personally I leave Toowoomba every weekend, and I'd rather live in a "destination" town. Somewhere most people would want to be, if they had a choice.
Oh there's so much to do in Tbar.. there's lots of stuff.. yep there's certainly lots of stuff if your old (sports clubs and lawn bowls) or Religious (Every type of jeebus variant) or you're a sports nut (sporting grounds everywhere) however if you don't fall into these categories there's nothing here for you. Speaking as someone who lived there most of my life. Anything a bit different gets squashed: gaming arcade with pool tables down town - gone; Awesome Willow springs waterslides, mini golf, swan paddle rides - converted into a garden nursery for the old people; Laser tag? - gone If it's not for the elderly or the religious or the sports nut it's shut down. Crime? Nah Toowoomba's pretty great if you compare it to say Townsville. There's only drug fueled murders every other month. You know what would be cool? An electric rail link to Brisbane | Cable cars / toboggan rides down the range | More bike lanes but put between parked cars and the footpath for protection of moving vehicles (Like Denmark) And maybe bring back the crazy night life Tbar had back in the 80's and 90's. Man that shit went off
All of the stuff you said isn’t here is here ? Mini golf ✅ Laser tag ✅ Game arcade ✅ No watersides unfortunately 🫣 As for the drug fueled murderers I’m unaware of that stuff, haven’t heard or seen it. Plenty of bike lanes but what you’re asking for isn’t anywhere in Australia so I’m not sure how that’s Toowoombas problem 🤦 It’s not a ‘sports nut’ place either it’s just a healthy lifestyle place. Also night life is dead all over Australia. Been dead for many years.
@@JohnnyTheG2 Admittedly I haven't fully re-investigated toowoomba for almost a decade now, I go and catch up with family up there once a month or so and while it's good to hear some things have returned it still feels stuck in the past. Toowoomba is not known for innovation, it will always be too conservative to try anything new or different until it's been everywhere else for 10 years first. My larger point with the rail link, cable cars or biking lanes is that Toowoomba will never have or do anything to set it apart from anywhere else. And this is largely driven by it's abundance of old conservative religious voters, a good helping of sports jocks and red necks. The silly jesus tents in queens park, the hooning that echoes through the whole of toowoomba at night from bogans still fascinated with commadores. The absolute obsession with anything involving a ball and all the sponsorship / cash / pokie machine fuelled sports club businesses and private schools tied up in these sports jock fiefdoms I hope the crime situation has improved because not long ago Toowoomba was experiencing more murders than Brisbane per capita and that's saying something.
I think you’ve honestly described your typical country Australian town haha Toowoomba has just invested 10m into the mountain biking development, we already have the best mtb system in Queensland and majority of mainland Australia, As for everything else, the cable car isn’t worth doing because the mountain is only 300m tall, cable car would be prime for mountain bikers tho 😅 I really think you’re assuming way too much mate, I see almost none of your problem points happening here in real life.
@@GlobalTriathlonNetwork Newtown is a good area mate, more older houses but its almost in the middle of everything, the only real suburbs to avoid is harlaxton and some parts of wilsonton, but honestly every suburb is fine, i live in glenvale which is majority rentals, newtown would be high majority house owners,
Honestly I’ve not seen it aye, My comparison is Townsville in which you can’t drive your car anywhere without the doors being locked as there’s a high chance you’ll get jacked by a bunch of kids 😂😂
@@ProcyonAlpha its mainly just kids stealing shit, same as every other city in Australia now a days, id consider that normal now i havent heard of much of it lately or within the last year tho
I have visited a lot pr country towns in qld and im gob smacked that Toowoomba was voted the shittest town 😮 I visited Toowoomba once a year and stay the weekend and think it's the prettiest country town in qld
I was born in Toowoomba it's a sht hole the reason it was voted the worst city is cause it has a problem with ice users way too many druggies live their and they flock their criminal organisations Operate out of Toowoomba even the biker gangs are based their,
Weird that out of 10,000 viewers you’re the first to say this ? Again I’ve never seen it in my time here lol from what I’ve been told by actual bikies is that the major group that ran the bad organisations left 10/15 years ago and the only bikies groups left do charity rides.
@@JohnnyTheG2 I just have more information then other viewers, Toowoomba is a trash heap in my opinion if you enjoy living their go for it but it doesn't change what had happened their, Drugs ran rampant throughout Toowoomba years ago my father turned into a meth user their cause of it, Theirs biker gangs Doing debt collection and robberies their and corrupt cops, even local gangs of junkies that target the homeless population, it's not openly seen stuff but enough people have experienced it to the point that they leave, my family won't be returning to Toowoomba anytime soon, it is nice looking just not so nice when you learn about what goes on their, Rockhampton is also a massive trash heap I just left from their it's the equivalent of Brazil with how bad the crime and people are most the criminals their came from Toowoomba or black town. I live in the desert now so much more peaceful and you don't gotta punch someone in the face on the daily
