The soursop when opened was almost browning and when it does, it hardens and meant that it is starting to lose its original flavor and fruit worms will start to grow. These worms are usually white and camouflaged unless you take a closer look. This is a bit unfair for chanel who cooked with it. A real soursop is white, mushy, juicy and sweet.. chanel could've expanded its flavor knowing if she has a perfect ripe fruit to cook on to start with..

It's all about what is locally available in your area. Canada is vary far away from where tropical fruit is grown. I am from Texas and our State is huge and the State fruit is Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit. I can't grow grapefruit in my area of Texas. We can grow walnuts, pecan, plums, peach ,apricots, apples, pears, blackberries, mulberries, persimmons, figs, elderberries and probably a few other things you get the idea. But we have fresh tropical fruit and products because we have an area of Texas that can grow then also Mexico is next door. And as much as I like Texas cooking , Tex mex I love Caribbean and Philippino food yum.

The tamarind in Indonesia usually used to cook fish. Well actually many other dish too, but fish can help the tamarind flavor more out as it's needed in this case. Some region use it with many added spices like chili, turmeric, garlic, shallots etc. But in my region we like it in the simplest way. Just use tamarind, turmeric, and salt to your gravy, cook it with fish, and done. The key is fresh fish, use the skin and the bone too. It's wise to use a kind of chewy skin fish so you can cook it a little bit long to get the umami taste and not destroy the fish. Or, just cook separately the bone if you want to serve boneless fish and cook the fish meat in the end. Oh, and to dissolve the tamarind, just pour some warm water, let it a few minutes then squeeze.. ^^ I hope maybe somehow this can be useful for some poeple who read my comment ^^

Custard apple I mean sugar apple seeds can be removed by separating the pulp along with seeds from the outer layer and place it on a sieve and use a spoon or spatula and keep pressing them! The pulp without seeds will be extracted through the sieve!

Persimmon can actually grow as far north as Kentucky but it has to be brought in during the winter or grown in a heated greenhouse. They're oily and opossums and deer love them!

Sweet sop (Sugar or custard apple) and soursop both are an amazing base to make vegan ice cream. Mix it with some berries or mango for the best flavour outcome. Soursop juice with a tiny bit of tamarind is also to die for!!!

“Sugar apple” is called sweetsop in Jamaica and I’ve never seen anyone cut one in half with a knife before, it’s gonna take her forever to get the flesh out

It being unripe is definitely a problem. The favor will need to be elevated to get the prominent favor it is known for .

Sugar apple is called "atis" here in the Philippines and one of my all time fruits. We have a tree of it in front of our house but we can only have them like at summer of after summer. Its unpredictable from where we live.

Coconut, tamarindo and passion fruit are the easiest to work it for both sweet and savory. Sugar apple and soursop are the hardest.

In the Philippines, aside from desserts, savory dishes using coconut milk is normal here, like Chicken coconut milk with pineapple tidbits (ginataang manok na may pinya) is my favorite but there's a lot of other dishes.
