So no income tax and use excise tax. So any item that cost 10.00 will now cost 25.00 because you need a minimum of 115% to cover loss of income tax. Not good. Rich are richer poor are same or worse.

The tax cuts did not balloon the debt. The inflation reduction spending act and the infrastructure spending act did. Tax receipts went up under the tax cuts.

Show me the article about the tax cuts paying for themselves. I've looked. They ain't there. Before the tax cuts, every expectation was the highest of the high, neat case scenarios which had no possibility of happening. COVID hit....and nobody.....NOBODY covered anything about how much was expected to bring in ..how much additional activity was needed to offset it....and no numbers I can find say here's what the numbers were. Point it out to me and I'll gladly read it. Been looking for it.

Tax receipts didn't just need to go up. They needed to go up enough to offset the lower rates. Not taking in whatever the number was...a billion. So....need enough economic activity to generic the 1 billion in taxes reduction. If it doesn't...then the govt collected less...and the economic activity did not increase by x amount to generate that difference.

It is long past time to looking at how we fund the Goverment. I like the idea of a Flat Tax/VAT system. One tax rate no deductions. 8% for all Americans that make $250,001 or more a year. Then a 10% VAT tax or Federal Sales Tax. Any short falls can be made up with decrease in Spending in all Goverment excluding Military. And raising Tariffs on all imports.

The bottom 50% of earners don't pay any federal taxes! Federal taxes are paid almost 90% by the very rich. If the poor want to keep getting all their freebies, they shouldn't bite the hand that feeds them.

Two things can be true. If you tax a billionaire what they should pay, rather than capping their taxes, there'd be less poverty. The middle class would pay less in taxes and wouldn't borderline poverty.

@@AtariBorn Surprise! The lack of money is not the cause of poverty. It's the result. Poverty is a state of mind. Almost everyone is in economical transition throughout life. There are countless people who have elevated their lives out of challenging situations, yet there are others who live in generational poverty. Individuals that hold onto poverty thinking will never better their lives and when they are given money it's used to enhance who they are, not to transform themselves. One last thing to consider; the characteristics of the uber rich and the ultra poor and very similar.

@@AtariBorn Please define "fair share". What I'm understanding from the comments is advocating setting up a system of wealth confiscation to ensure nobody lives in poverty. Statistically, it's impossible because "wealth" isn't only about money and if all the money was taken away from the rich, it wouldn't be enough to support the people living in the bottom fifty percent. The lack of understanding economics is appalling in all these comments.

If they remove the income tax prices will skyrocket to cover the loss of taxes. Using excise tax alone requires an Additional 115% increase on items.

atf, cia, it's, tsa should ALL be disbanded, and folded into ICE. There should be a flat tax of 5% federal, 5% state tax from each paycheck for EVERY STATE. No one should be exempt. No filing taxes.

THe wealthy would love your idea of only a 5% tax, actually as a middle class I would. THe reality is our country is dependent upon Federal taxes for many programs. Your plan would also cause mass unemployment for those who work in government positions. Disbanding is not the answer.
