I don’t think we’ve seen someone use fashion like DoJa has since Gaga early in her career. They both have created iconic moments that will you remember for a long time. You may not always like it, but it’s never boring.
Honestly Doja’s attitude towards fashion is so fucking fun & inspiring. In the world of “perfect” instagram ready moments at ALL TIMES; she just says Fuck it! I’m gonna do whatever the fuck I want and have fun while doing so.. she gave us EVERYTHING 💅🏽💅🏽💅🏽
Not really true, which is why she changed up so "drastic" she got so fed up with the feminine & prefect eyecandy....., Doja has admitted to have bodydysmorphia,so for her to to the golden look & not appeal as much to the male gaze as she used to do, to me seems like she's doing better mentally ... & what I meant bout not really is that DC often acted like she didn't give an F in general, but she does...it's a defense mechanism (not to talk to much abt her person, but it's important that ppl understand how & why when they see & hear her esp on IG). Have a nice day 😊
Doja Cat's Viktor and Rolf look made me literally gasp, I love it so much! It feels Edwardian but also so modern and new. The stripes are the perfect pattern choice. The sleeve gives leg of mutton while being very masculine. I want to know every thought that went into designing it.
Agreed! She's playing w the naysayers, 'oh so you wanted LASHES?' (Bat for Lashes) She's not my musical cup of tea, but she took her power & decided she's gonna ride this thing & like Grimes, wear a different do & be an entire new persona as she sees fit! The red tho? Gosh, idk, metallic pastels like Gaga's McQueen Plato's Atlantis get up, would have been chef's 💋 kiss kiss. Alas, I think she's a gorgeous creature & I love that we DONT hear about her dudes or chicks eo day. She's content w herself rock on!
I am SO impressed with this fellows fashion knowledge of fabric, cut, vintage styles of each designer and even harking back to Egyptian fashion. Why is he not top editor at Vogue? Like Seriously, he deserves that job. I love that he explained some looks which I was completely clueless about and love how he's able to describe these looks in a way that is sometimes more exciting then the look itself. Kudos
I really loved Jisoo’s look it was nothing revolutionary but it was classy, elegant and pure she suits that dior vibe so much and her hairstyle made me think of Audrey Hepburn
I absolutely love Anya Taylor Joy's tribute to her Argentinean roots. And Doja is giving *ART* instead of fashion and I love her for it. I love Maisie's look. I thought she looked amazing at the last MET Gala, at which so many celebrities looked boring but also ridiculous.
Also, so many people were upset about it because they think realistic animal heads are glorifying trophy hunting, I was like "WHAT?". People get offended no matter what.
38:46 I’m pretty sure Tilda Swinton has wore this sequins lounge set at Cannes in 2013. It’s a great look and we stan an icon who wear things more than once
Let's make rewearing the ultimate flex in 2023 ❤️ "I'm so elite that I actually own this garment, allowing me to wear it more than once." That's the vibe I want from here on out.
People's negative reaction to Doja Cats (arguably) best looks here (the red and the pinstripe) just illustrates to me how the whole "minimalism" and "clean" aesthetic thats been pumped into young ppl and the public via social media like tiktok and instagram has really dimmed ppl's tolerance for the Weird. Doja Cats looks are Weird but intentionally so. She isn't just looking to perform "clean, rich, blandly attractive" like so many celebrities are (even when they DO wear cool or weird or interesting looks they tone it way down with the styling or the make up). I appreciate Doja Cat's unwillingness to always be playing by the current mainstream fashion rules of....extreme restraint.
the explanation on doja was so well done, she is an incredible fashion icon that will be in the fashion history books. the comment about fashion getting boring is so true and doja is one of the few who goes all out and just gets it. i love her.
You missed G-Dragon at Chanel, one of their ambassadors and the King of Kpop. I recommend that you look into him and his fashion. Quirky, eccentric , unpredictable and chic. He is the leading fashionista in Korea.
Your reviews are fascinating! I'd love a video of you reviewing past fashionistas. We know some of the current ones, such as Rhianna, Doja Cat & Zendaya. However there were many before them, love and want more of your retrospective videos 🙏
I soooo agree with your opinion on the Suga look, the only one exploring his fashion in an interesting way is jhope, his looks for the men's fashion week were pretty good
37:45 If you want to look at some more variety from the BTS boys, I would look into the three (!) looks that J-Hope wore to fashion week - far more variety with a lot of street-adjacent coolness. Many called him the darling of Fashion Week, from what publications I happened to see.
The only thing Doja’s outfit brings to mind is that she has a high pain tolerance - this would be an extremely uncomfortable look not just for the time she is at the event but for the hours of prep required - 30k crystals applied to the head, bodice and arms ?!? shrieks ‘Notice me, notice me and how I suffer’ Given that she can not drink, eat or probably even talk while wearing this, it in particularly bad taste especially coming right after Lisa Marie died trying to get ‘red carpet ready’ by employing several questionable methods to lose weight Misogyny is personified by Doja, can’t even look at it without feeling angry
Hi Luke! Would you ever consider reacting to the George’s Hobeika Haute Couture Spring Summer 2023 collection? I just think there’s a few pieces that are interesting to look at!
It's stressing me out how so many young stars are treating themselves like a product. I know that's always been somewhat true in this industry but it seems worse now. That their image is coldly calculated. Anna Taylor Joy is so talented and now she looks so different. She was so pretty before. She still is but it's artificial and almost scary. I'm not a fan of Doja Cat's red look but honestly whenever possible everyone should wear clothes and makeup for themselves and do whatever makes them happy. Fashion is an art and there are far braver people than me willing to experiment. The beaded head reminds me of that Jenna Marbles video where she made her head into a disco ball 😂 Sigh. I miss her.
Lol I’m getting vibes from Pin Head. Awesome freaky costume that I can’t say I seen before. Ohhhhh I just finished watching the inspiration idea! Nice!
Edward Cullen could never! 😂 I agree with Luke that we could do with more excitement from those that have the opportunity to really turn out some looks. Schiaparelli are definitely doing their part though. That white coat with the faux corset is what I'd like to wear in the middle of Winter. I'm really glad to see something like that on an older woman too. 👏 Too often the choices provided to more mature women on the red carpet just look frumpy. Also, as the announcements are rollin' in one by one, let's give the men their dues and name the global ambassadorship titles, Jimin is the global ambassador of Dior, SUGA - Valentino etc etc.
I heard someone say that the reason so many women like Doja's red look was because she wasn't dressed for the male gaze. She didn't want to be attractive, she wanted to be art. And she fucking NAILED it.
I completely agree about Doja. She goes all the way ! She does not care about looking conventionally beautiful. She goes over the top and I’m here for it!!!
The number of people with bleached, shaved, or very thin eyebrows at the Haute Couture shows scares the hell out of me for makeup trends. Please let it live and die at Fashion Weeks and not become mainstream!
I actually liked that Doja didn’t wear the lashes because it gave an even stronger effect of being this alien, humanoid, freshly skinned, sparkly being
Speaking as a sfx makeup artist and cosplayer, the body paint and rhinestones on Doja are IMPECCABLY DONE. There’s so much effort and so much time and prep work that goes into making body paint like that look THAT GOOD. I was utterly gobsmacked by this look when I first saw it, and continue to be so as I see more and more of the details. I’ve spent over 12 hours in full body paint before, I cannot stress how uncomfortable it is, how much painstaking effort it takes to put on, how much prep work you have to put in if you want it to look even close to how IMPECCABLE Doja does, and how insanely careful you have to be to ensure you don’t mess it up once you have it on. Like, I’ve known people who have waxed the majority of their bodies in order to get the smoothest canvas possible in preparation for a full body paint job for an event. This shit can get *intense*. I bow down to Doja, Schiaparelli, Pat, and Pat’s team.
I agree that Doja's look is a full look, textures and shades are consistent, everything matches, and Pat did a masterful job with those crystals to the point that they look seamless all throughout including around the features of the face
It was wild watching PM's assistants w tiny plates placing those red crystals on DC's entire torso, face, neck, arms, wow! Oh the wealth though, idk to be pampered like that & catered too, in THIS day & age?
i wish you talked about j-hope, he went three days of the fashion week! on day 1 he wore 2 LV looks, day 2 Dior and day 3 Hérmes... i loved how the four outfits were very him but different (colors, textures, fabrics), i think you might've liked at least 2 of them! (about suga... exactly what you said about personality, he doesn't dress really colorful or flashy, his style is more relaxed and toned down colors, so the valentino outfit was quite him)
I love that Doja Cat is allowing herself to be a canvas for amazing artists, including Pat McGrath. The Viktor and Rolf look is my favorite. Love that she's wearing false eyelashes as facial hair. The silhouette of that suit reminds me of the Regency men's silhouette, with the sloping shoulders, the high waist and 3/4 length cutaway coat.
Apple Martin! Jesus, I remember when she was born and reading some trash magazine article about celebs giving their kids ridiculous names. Now she's an adult!? I feel old.
Regarding Suga: the thing is, that is Suga for you. He is the more introverted out of the 7 so, apart from Stage outfits, his style is usually on the simple side. it'll be hard to see him in crystals or something more ''crazy''. If you are looking for something a bit more out there, you might want to look more into J-Hope (eg. his look for Dior fashion show).
@@eleonore59830 He is the new Valentino brand ambassador. Do you expect them not to invite him? Most likely he was not only invited but also given what to wear. Also, fashion is not only about being over the top. You can still enjoy fashion even while preferring a more classic and quiet style.
@@beatricebaglio5236 I am not blaming him in anyway. Him being ambassador is mostly about money as everything is about. I just think it is a shame they don't pick people with a genuine interest in fashion as a art. Simple does not have to be boring
@@eleonore59830 noone is blaiming noone, i know 😊 Either way, it might be boring for you, but not for others. Fashion is about personal preferences. For instance, in my opinion his look was actually good. Nothing too crazy, nothing revolutionary, but still a good suit that worked on him. Not everyone is going to be like Doja, who clearly has interest in doing something out of the box. You also have people that go to fashion shows just to enjoy the shows. Also, just because he doesn't wear haute cuture or something that you would consider "interesting" doesn't mean he doesn't have a genuine interest in the art. Not saying that he for sure is interested in it (it's not like either the two of us know him personally), but i'd say that labelling him as "not worthy to be there" based on a look it's quite judgemental 😅 you cannot simply say he doesn't have the right to be there because he opted for a normal suit instead of a body fully encrusted with red crystals. But i suppose we can agree to disagree on this.
@@eleonore59830 Valentino has chosen Suga (Min Yoongi) as a brand ambassador for Maison Valentino Essentials campaign that is dedicated to the brand’s menswear staples. This collection embraces diversity in fashion and cultivates a tailored and sleek line with corporate and street wear influences for the global man. Exactly what Suga embodies through his music producing and past fashion representation work with Louis Vuitton and Celine. Perhaps if you took an interest in artists from other countries you may have seen the correlation of fashion and Suga and the history of the two. He has also spoken fondly of his love of fashion and the impact it has on his music. Not inviting him would have been and incredible insult to both Valentino and Suga. Both are worthy of each other's representation. Of course the looks will not be vibrant or avante garde. It is not what the line he is ambassador for is about. He has clearly worn something that he is directly involved in.
Why do people always give Jisoo the BASIC OF THE BASIC when it comes to clothing? Dior has many wonderful pieces but there goes Jisoo wearing black and white almost always💀
@@NA22427 yea it’s weird , they pick the most interesting looks for their music videos and experimental stuff for their performances but the red carpet is another story , it’s always black , bland , minimally uninteresting , if they ever attend the met gala as a group , I’ll won’t have any expectations at this point
Those outfits are chosen to fit with their image. They have very little individual control over what they wear publicly to any event, and *it shows* in the choices.
Exactly. She always gets thrown in a dress, a purse and ugly shoes, hair untouched, same makeup and the look it's done, it's very boring. I think this is the only time her look actually had a little bit of "concept" (it was Audrey Hepburn inspired).
it just makes me laugh so hard that PETA had to go out of their way to make a statement that they're ok with the lion dress like that is so excellent and hilarious to me
@Trinity M I also hated that lion dress. Its just too much, like a kid's stuffed animal glued to a dress. However Kylie I think is a Leo so she might have liked it for that reason. And I'm all for people displaying FAKE animal heads in their homes if they like that kind of look. As long as the real animals are respected and left alone I'm good
Doja Cat went from cheap wigs to be one of the most influential people in fashion. What a journey. I'm not gonna say I'm prouf of her I'm not her mother, but I can definitely say I'm impressed and inspired.
What I love about Doja's red look is that it's really evocative and yet open to interpretation. It definitely seeps into the art realm because it feels like poetry. For me, this boiling blood look strongly evokes female anger, the boiling rage of women wronged everywhere and the way we're taught to just keep our anger hidden under the surface to not make waves. It looks like that anger's finally bursting out in a beautiful and rightly destructive manner.
I agree at least she had something to day. She had and the artist behind it had it too. Every look was interesting no matter if they all didn’t hit but at least she is researching, she is taking risks so kudos to her overall
HERE we go...🙄😒🤦🏾♀️ A YOUNGER GENERATIONS "INTERPRETATION OF, WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT AND WOMEN ANGRY ALL OVER THE WORLD, BLAH BLAH FCKIN BLAH!!!" WELL..MY INTERPRETATION OF HER RIDICULOUS AND SCARY LOOK, IS THAT OF DAY 2&3 OF MY MONTHLY CRIMSON TIDE!!!
I just *knew* you would educate us on the Doja Cat/Schapperreli collab! The outfit was stunning, and I suspected there was more meaning to it than "fashun!." Thank you for providing that history.
