All around the world synagogues are an integral part of Judaism. From the Greek meaning “place of assembly”, the synagogue today is referred to as a house of prayer (bet ha-tefilla), house of assembly (bet ha-kneset), house of study (bet ha-midrash), and in some cases even temple. But the Second Temple’s destruction by Rome in AD 70 changed the function and focus of synagogues. So, what changed? Corie Bobechko explores.

I know you made this a few years ago and I don't really expect you to change the post BUT the Cairo Inscription image at 1:18 or so of the video is dated as "C 246-222 AD" , it should read "C 246-222 BC, or BCE depending on your approach. Good overview, thanks.

Synagogues are mentioned in Psalms 74:8, predating the gospels

Although we as Christians view the Church as we ourselves and not the building we congregate in. I know that synagogues and church as the meeting place (tabernacle) of the Living God is where we can come in unity to worship our YAHWEH God. And in time as the one true ma [Ephesians 2: 15].

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 2 Corinthians 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
