And the foreign power element is why people are wrong to compare the Minneapolis riots to the Tea Party. Target and Autozone aren't connected to the cops who killed George Floyd. Plus, the tea company that played a role in the tea tax was based in India and not anywhere in the modern U.S.

As a Brit I had very little knowledge of the Boston Tea party, after watching this I can see why the colonist's got so angry. As a tax paying worker I don't mind paying tax on the 2 jobs that I work as it pays for my childrens education and for the much under pressure NHS a service that gave my nan a new hip no charge, that delivered my children no charge and is treating my fathers cancer no charge. But if I have to pay a tax on my beloved tea there would be trouble. P.s when I say no charge 1/4 of my wages goes on tax so it's not free, plus I pay for all the people who choose not to work and contribute to the services they use.

Im confused, if britain started selling the tea to the colonies themselves at lower price, why did that upset the colonists? Perhaps this is backwards, and the merchants buying in london got low prices and britain decided to simply cut out the middle man.

@darthplagueis13
@darthplagueis13 3 года назад
They couldn't afford to. The Tea Act was issued in an effort to save the East India Company because the East India Company was so financially essential to the british economy at the time that the entire british colonial empire would have started crumbling if the EIC went bankrupt. As much as americans try to represent the british as merely greedy, to the british there were larger things at stake.

Isn't it the colonies' duty to pay taxes to the mother colony. I mean, the price of tea was lowered and when taxes counter it out, it's still the same price it used to be. The americans are not free people, they are a colony. They are supposed to follow what their mother colony says. I understand how it's taxation without representation but I think the colonies were just an angry mob influenced by our founding fathers (who were policital and manipulating people).
