Lesson 3 - I live in Northern Nevada in cold and use my truck in cold weather. I start the truck, go make coffee, drink coffee, have some breakfast, read etc. Then go check it. Being in so Cal, you just would not experience this. But every winter it is the same routine - and yes I have been through my air system. Thanks for sharing. I feel for you both.

Really appreciate you making videos like this. We’re fellow new Unimog owners and are about to cross the country in our mog. We’ve learned some valuable info from your experience!

Always great catching up with you both. Really frustrating about the brake lines getting damaged. We too swapped from Michelin XZL’s last year, running Continental MPT81 on our little Tonka 😁 and gone for Continental HCS on our new build, more because of cost, particularly when it’s five at a time 🙈😁, but definitely no Complaints. Anyway, pleased to see your progressing & back on the road, take care guys 👍😁

Great to hear from you! Yeah, costs mount quickly with these things. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the new truck.

Thanks for the update. I don't quite agree with lesson 3. A worn oring/rubber is worn. A little heat might might change the tolerances slightly, but it's still a worn part. I would change lesson 3 too change all rubber o'rings, gaskets, rubber and/or any material that is a sealing surface or perishable item when getting an old truck. Good luck with the maintenance list. If you get stuck make a short and ask advice. Enjoying the vids from South Africa,keep up the good work!

That’s a good way to put it.

Thanks for sharing your learnings there. Old tyres might be ok as a second emergency spare (when we've done remote outback travelling with the 4wd we've had multiple spares) or can be useful on a trailer, but you certainly want good rubber on the shoes for fast/highway travelling. But there is no doubt that the cost of new ones on a mog is painful. Was looking at >$1200 AUD here (and haven't got it to the travelling stage yet so really appreciating these videos).

Glad to help. Hopefully future learnings will be a little less expensive. 😂

I put the same Conti’s on my rig..good choice. Only issue I’ve had is they don’t clear mud as well as the MPT80’s, or XZL’s but they are a better on-road option and a bit quieter. Expensive trip.. damn!

Anyway Thanx for Your Information. The MPT are Cheaper in US. We have also Changed from XZL to MPT , Same Size. Driving Highway Uphill we have more Power. So its A Good Choice. Dont Worry . Its the Regular Start with the MOGs. But Wait It will Work. Grets from Our MOG Silke❤Jo

Do you notice any noise difference when driving between the Michelin XZL and the Continental MPT?
@MogsAndDogs
@MogsAndDogs 7 месяцев назад
I haven’t noticed road noise on either and can’t tell a difference. The engine noise is by far the loudest thing at speed.

@@MogsAndDogs I’ve seen a lot of RU-vid movies where they insulate the driving cabine with Armaflex. Are you also planning to do this? On my newer Unimog (U3000) the tyre noise is louder than the engine noise.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Yeah, I have a video or two on the whole process of us sound deadening and upholstery of the cab.
