I walked out of my job after they accused me of being lazy (night shift, tasks were done). By law I wasn’t required to give any notice so I laughed when a co-worker told me how the boss had to work my shifts.

During a home invasion robbery I saw my husband murdered so Yeah, I called in and in my state of shock told my manager that due to the situation I honestly did not know when I would be back. Said I would keep in touch. Manager was great and understood that not only did I have my husbands death to deal with but had to deal with the police and all that. He and I spoke almost daily. Fast forward 10 days and I got a call during the memorial service (the end of the service) from the DM wanting to know that now the service was done what time could I get to work that afternoon. I explained that I need a few more days (I was a wreck) and he began to lecture me on responsibility. I cut him off and said I would be there in an hour. I was the Assistant Manager. I went in as soon as the guests had left and I got my kids situated and there he was at the office door saying "I thought you said you would be here 5 minutes ago?" "Well I am here now and you can kiss my %$#^&%$" Tossed him the store keys and left.

And people wonder why people don't want to work... If you can't take time off to grieve and sort yourself after a traumatic experience, then it's perfectly acceptable to leave a job that won't support you during your time of need. I really hope you're doing better, have a good support system and are living the best life you can. You have one more person rooting for you.

When I’ve been an audio visual technician for 6 years making $15 an hour, only to find out that the new hires I’ve been training the past two years were starting at $17 an hour. I immediately put in my two week notice. Now I’m making $42 an hour lol. Crazy how leaving bad situations can sometimes lead you to better opportunities.

The Kirby vacuum cleaners one resonates with me. I applied for what was supposed to be a desk job at an advertising company. Travelled an hour to get to the interview, took copious notes from the job listing so that I could make sure to bring up the things they were looking for. The day before my interview, I get an email saying it will be a working interview, and also a group one. Okay. I get there, and me and my fellow hopefuls find ourselves in what is clearly a very recently (and temporarily) rented office. We have our individual interviews, and then we're taken out of the office and led to the tube station, all the while being fed what's clearly a pitch by the three people who were conducting our interview. Specifically, they were telling us some suspiciously MLM sounding stuff about how much we COULD earn if we rose up through the ranks and got to lead our own team, etc. etc. We arrive in the middle of a market square, where we help them set up a tent and display, and they finally tell us that we're there to stop people in the street and try to get them to sign up for a fucking credit card. They also mentioned that we were in this area in particular *because it was a low-income area.* I said on the spot that I was no longer interested in the job, and left. I wasn't the only person.

I started my very 1st job at 14. It was a supermarket. After about 3 years, they said they would promote me from packing bags to working in the bakery. There would be no pay raise but it would be a lot less noisy. They day I was to start there, they told me someone else had been hired for that position and I would be put in there too in the following months. The job didn't pay much, the new male boss had been really creepy towards me at the Christmas party & I had a long b8s trip to get there & home again. Same thing happened again. The third time they said it, I quit. They were shocked & told me I had to stay. I was genuinely puzzled they'd said I had to stay & asked why exactly I had to stay. Apparently, that was impertinent & was told off like a naughty schoolgirl. I have never shopped there again. And I was told that creepy boss was fired not too long after I quit.

A roommate who I thought was a friend. She was working at the time. Her husband, my other roommate, and I had picked her up. He had stayed in the car. I had gone in and gotten myself a blended mocha drink from my fav shop. I then proceeded to go pick her up. She as soon as she got off work, started reaming into me. To the point I got mad and wasted most of a great drink. ..She quieted down as soon as we got to the car. But on the way home. Had to stop at a Walgreens for her husband to go pick up a couple of things. As soon as he left the car. She started in on me again. I got to the point that I decided not to take anymore of it. So I got out and walked the distance home. ..Luckily for her, he had a copy of my keys. And drove the car home. She had a smug look on her face due to me walking home. And I got reamed out by him. I pointed out that what was the reason I did what I did. ..She didn't have that look for long. Due to after chewing me out for doing something dangerous(Brooklyn Park has several gangs living in it). She also got royally chewed out as well.

Whenever you get any kind of promise from your employer about raises, promotions, any increase/decrease in hours, any change of responsibilities, etc., always always ALWAYS get it in writing! Even if you like your job, even if they're great people. Never forget that companies are out to make money, and even the best ones can and will eventually screw you over to earn an extra buck. Never ever EVER trust the word of someone -- anyone -- when money is on the line. There are married people who kill their partners over money, so why would you ever trust an employer to not screw you over if given a juicy enough reason? GET THAT SHIT IN WRITING! EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

I left for a weeklong vacation the last full week of June. I returned on Monday and was called in by our ED, who matter-of-factly informed me that I was terminated and my last day would be Wednesday, the end of the fiscal year. No good explanation that I could see--excellent marks on my last evaluation and just pulled off a major project for them which I managed from start to finish. Things had been a little tense between me and the ED lately, but I put it down to stress over an upcoming fundraiser that wasn't coming together. Nothing that would justify being thrown out the door that very week, even if she was trying to "take the company in a new direction". The ED told me I could finish out the month but I didn't bother. I walked right out of that appointment and went home, coming back the next evening to pack up my office when the ED wasn't there. If I don't work for you... I don't work for you.

Love these. Had pleny of fast food/hs/college job ones. But I like the "professional/career" ones, just amazes me how seasoned management can be so incompetent. Mine was when, after working a place (8 years total) that for the previous 2 years I had been running my department because our manager was doing 2 managment jobs( and the other group needed it more), they finally gave him that manager job(he was good at it too, we were all happy for him). I put my hat in to manage the department I was already running. When they gave the job to someone else(less qualified), the boss as he was telling me the news, which I was "ok" with, then he dropped this gem: "I didnt' know you had prior management experience". I was like, dude YOU interviewed me before I took this job, and THAT was my previous job! I was like frick it, told my wife I was quitting, and she was like, it's about time, you hate that place! And put in my notice the following work day. Best decision I ever made, job wise. Wife was clearly the best decision I ever made.

I read the stage performance contract for a cruise ship showgirl/dancer gig, hired a paralegal to help me out, and the paralegal warned me not to sign it. The contract was horrible, heavily favored the cruise line, had a noncompete agreement for three years after ending my work with them. I would have to pay for every meal, my room and board on the ship, and several other costs that I never had to pay when working similar cruise ship performer jobs. The demands and hours were unreasonable. I wouldn’t have made more than a total of $150 per day, before taxes. Glad I dodged that bullet.

My older brother is a lawyer he wants to see any type of contract I might have to sign no matter how useless it seems. I think this is partly because I got a contract once that said it would give me financial gain on travel costs as in the company would cover my costs partly. The contract was contradicting itself claiming in one paragraph that it would not be taken out of my retirement fund and in the next, it said it did. I showed it to my brother and he didn't get it, he showed it to his wife also a lawyer and she did not get it either. He advised me not to sign it until we got more clearance, I went to my boss and they did not understand it either but would speak to some people who probably knew how or what. Turned out that the costs would partly come out of my retirement fund but hey I was still so far away from that it would not matter right? I did not sign it and now throw it out every year.

In the last two years of secondary school, we had to apply for four different options (courses) and would have two lessons of each option per week. One of them was French. All the other choices were not for me so I had no choice but to take French. The problem? Firstly, I had not practised any French during the summer holidays and had become incredibly rusty except with the occasional vocabulary I already knew over the years. Secondly, I had a completely different teacher and the majority of the students in that class were in her classes. In our year groups, we were all put into four different sets depending on our skills (Set 1 being the dumbest kids and Set 4 being the smartest). Also, if you were in a certain set, you were taught completely separate topics. This was the case in the class I was put in. The students were very aware that my French skills had deteriorated and I was mocked for barely knowing anything. Whenever the teacher called me to translate a sentence into French, the class would all turn around in their seats and stare at me with dirty grins and giggling, knowing I will most likely mess up or not know it at all. Sometimes I guessed correctly and they would get mad when I didn't fail. I was so angry with everyone in that class that I refused to participate in group work. People would actively avoid me and even argue with each other over who would work with me. Even when I sat across from them without speaking, they would just sit and laugh like maniacs. What was the teacher doing during all this? Complaining that I was refusing to work with other students and wasn't putting two and two together when I would always come into class very unhappy or when the kids would stare and mock me openly. Don't get me wrong, she was a friendly teacher, but I was also getting mad at her for not understanding my situation. She tried to set up catch up lessons for me after school so I would be alone but it never improved. Even when my mum would email her about what was going on in her class, things were never addressed or fixed. When the written and oral exams came up, I decided that I was not going to put in any effort at all. The work was genuinely difficult so that made my stress increase. I was done and at the end of my tether. Ten minutes into the written exam, I was taken out the room because I couldn't write anything down. The oral exam (where it's just you, the teacher and a tape recorder) failed miserably too because I couldn't speak a full sentence and had no idea what the teacher was saying (in French). Fast forward to result day, everyone gets their grades. Then the teacher decides that it would be a great idea to announce in front of the (very silent) class that I got a U grade (a grade worse than an F) in both exams and that I had two options: 1. Retake both exams or 2. Start extra English classes in place of the other French lessons (extra English was where you are given additional support if you can barely read, write or spell. If not, it's a place where you can catch up on homework). I was so damn quick in selecting the second option and sarcastically thanked the teacher. I don't think the (still silent) students were prepared for my response. When packing my stuff to leave, I told them all that they all got what they wanted and they could now celebrate since they won't have to put up with me anymore. I made sure to slam the door as hard as I could on the way out, surprisingly that didn't make the glass panel shatter. Never been so glad to be out of that hellhole of a class.

@HLY66
@HLY66 2 года назад
@@artismylife2641 I wanted to flip out so badly but back then, doing so was what the students wanted. The bullying I endured not just in that class but in other classes too mostly consisted of saying or doing things to get a reaction out of me so they can get a rise out of it. When I finally put my foot down and decided to give them all the silent treatment and acted like they didn't exist, they got more upset (because how dare I never speak to them and only speak to my friends and teachers) and were trying everything in the book to get me to acknowledge them and react to whatever they are doing. Thankfully, they all decided to leave me alone during our final year when we had tons of exams because they decided that stressing over revision was more important than picking on me. When school was finally over, I got my copy of the Yearbook, looked them all up on FaceBook and blocked them all. That part was satisfying.

Because of public transport issues, I had to either arrive at 7:10am, or 8:07am. Given that our arsehole boss expected us to arrive at 8am despite not being paid until 8:30, it was easier for me to get in before even the warehouse staff arrived, catch up on my paperwork, clean up etc, and have an easy start to the day. I did this for more than a year. One morning there was an accident on the bridge near my place, so of course I missed the first bus & train. I walked in at 8:07 to my arsehole boss launching into a rant about tardiness, as the shop manager, warehouse manager & C.O.O. frantically trying to shut him up. I looked at him, blinked & said "Are you REALLY sure you want to bawl me out, Terry?". He continued to berate me for being late. Righto! Next morning, I arrived at 8:07, then stood outside the door enjoying my coffee & cigarette until precisely 8:29am. I then walked in, put my stiff in my locker & was on the floor, ready to go by 8:30 on the dot. He attempted to lamely apologise, but I told him to shove it. Got headhunted 4 months later & took great delight in leaving him in the lurch at the start of Christmas week AND taking my clientele with me.

Not sure if they are legal any longer but if you are going to a competitor, have all your stuff packed in advance and out of the building. You don't have to answer where you are going next but sometimes they will ask you to leave immediately. Two weeks notice is a curtesy, not a requirement, to some employers anyway.
@josepherhardt164

I think they're enforceable (i.e., the company can sue and expect to win) if they are not deemed "unreasonable."
@k.chriscaldwell4141
@k.chriscaldwell4141 2 года назад
In the states where they are legal, and in states where they are not, they are used as weapons of intimidation. The companies know that most don't know the legalities around non-competes and so have a sense of fear concerning them. Next, the companies know that most do not have the resources or time to answer a non-compete suit, and so bow out if served. I've heard that serving fake notices of a non-compete suit or just a cease and desist threat is quite common now. Side note: My last real job had a 3-year non-compete on me. I gave them a two-cheeks notice and went off to run a business that they could have (probably wanted to) hold as competing. Thing is, by the time they found out, I had the resources and time to fight them, so they did nothing. How do ya like me, now?!

I was going to bring in a $3.2 million contract to the company, and the owner demanded I hand it over to him, and he would only give me a $500 gift card in return. I went on vacation for a job interview, resigned the day I came back (knew I was going to get the job). The client refused to sign without me being their contact and getting my cut. ---- Next job, after years of harassment by the owner, and him hiring a director who talked a big game to the owner, and couldn't back it up, I decided to resign. I told coworkers, but no one else, as soon as I walked in they brought me into an office to fire me, claiming I made a threat against the owner's life (never did). I asked for proof of this outlandish claim, because they are claiming I committed a crime basically, and their only response was, "it's from a credible source". I was about to argue, but realized I get to collect unemployment if they fire me, plus could sue the company for defamation if they fought it, and just said, fine, if you want to believe a lie about me, I'm happy to leave.

I worked almost a year for mobile grooming. I made 15% commission. (The normal rate is 50%) The 2 owners of the company were incredibly shady. I maintained nearly everything in the truck I drove. Check in, check out, get payment from owners, groom the dog, drive to the next house, no lunch break, fill gas tank, bring the truck back, wash & fold towels, stock the truck, fill the truck with fresh water, empty grey water, plug up the truck & clean the inside from top to bottom. EVERY. DAY. I later asked for a raise because in my previous years as a dog groomer I never had to do this much work. They gave me a bull response and told me "Well you have a choice, you can work here or you can go somewhere else. We're not making you stay. You get 20$ an hour which is more than I do, and i have a major in biology." It was ridiculous. They charged 200$ for 1 standard poodle groom. I got 15%. My shift started at 8am and ended at 7pm. I said "Thank you for the experience but I dont think this company is right for me." Gave them my business credit card and truck keys and now I work a MUCH more comfortable grooming job and I absolutely love my coworkers and manager.

I was in my college’s concert choir. This semester has been rough and stressful than usual. Leaders have been giving out fines like vehicle boots. Gigs for me have been an eggshell walk because I was trying to avoid a fine. On October 30, we had a gig at a church and I brought my cell phone into the sanctuary. Generally, when that happens, we just give our phones to a leader before the performance, and we receive them afterwards. No harm no foul. This time, leaders collected our phones (those of us who had them in our pockets and were honest) and snared us in a sting. On Halloween, the leaders levied $30 fines against us. That ruined my Halloween. I paid and I quit two days later.

I agree. When I quit, I was so absolutely done, they had done so much fucked shit and some personal traumas really messed me up. I’d been thinking about quitting for a while, but never worked up the courage until one morning when I woke up and thought, “I’m done.” I ripped out a piece of notebook paper, wrote my two weeks, went to work and turned it in. My boss said, “You’ve been working here for a while we’re sad to see you go.” I said, “Yeah.” Was incredibly professional. Later, I found out another employee quit that day, then three more quit once they found out about me, including all of our dishwashers. I was insanely satisfied when I found out those fucked managers had to wash dishes (an 8 hr and pretty laborious job as we did a lot more than just wash dishes). I hope they realized how miserable they made our lives

I was working at a Burger King store while for about a Year, The FUN manager was quitting, and he INFORMED us of a STORE POLICY that is Enforced by the GM and Owner. THE POLICY which is against the Better Business Bureau standard practices was that they COULD and DO do. The policy states that there is a Permanent Pay Freeze in effect starting from the first date of Official Employment. No what made me say FU*K THIS was that they would Promote you from Crew to Manager and higher and were not required by Burger King Standards to Increase your pay ANY. so they don't. They Expect you to Continue to be a Assistant Manager, and Full manager while being paid Minimum wage. Later I was told by a BK REP that this was not allowed unless the Store was in Dire Straights, and YES they did first implement while they were having trouble at the Start, HOWEVER they decided to never change the policy after they got out of the RED. The owners Decided to stay that way because it wasn't written into the rules that they had to lift it. So they were in essence DENYING hard working employees any Raises REGUARDLESS of the fact they Earn one by Breaking themselves. LATER this same JOB told me I could either Show up or i would be Terminated when my Lung had collapsed. Came to work and Collapsed. THEY in there Cover their own ass called my family to come pick me up a Hour Away. The hospital was 3 blocks away, and a EMS would have saved me much Suffering. But apparently Sales are more important then Employees lives. So when the Doctors later Hospitalized me They SUGGESTED my brother Suit up in my uniform and COMMIT IDENTITY FRAUD by doing my job because they were short staff but apparently not enough to Higher more staff.

3:35 hate to say it, but this guy got screwed by a diversity hire. The company had probably gotten a warning or complaint about a lack of women or minorities in general, in positions of authority. I'm a minority. Native American. I had three people above me retire within a 3 month span. I had close to a decade of experience in Nursing care, as an RN, and had just become an NP. they gave all three positions to young women who were literally so fresh from college, this was their first job in the profession. Because the hospital was subject to a lawsuit about not enough women in the supervisory positions. Even though literally all the nursing supervisors were women. As for my Fuck It story? Violent patient was assaulting other staff, sedatives were not working, and the cops had tazed him twice already, with no effect. I was a large fella. did MMA before i injured my back in an incident a little over year after this one. So theres a 6'7" football line backer of a guy, punching, kicking, and slapping a bunch of 5'0"-5'6" nurses and doctors, hes got people bleeding, one of the smaller nurses had a broken wrist, someone else ended up with a severe concussion. And the higher ups told us to avoid physical restraint or violence. I decided then and there, i wasnt going to watch, and i laid the bastard out, and got him in a blood choke, since a proper choke hold wasnt possible due to his fighting me. for those who may not know, a blood choke is where you apply pressure to the carotid artery, arresting the flow of blood to the brain, and causing the subject to pass out. It takes less than a regular choke, which cuts off the ability to breath, and actually has a faster recovery, as well as being comparatively safer for the subject. I was fired. But it was worth it.

People complain about the players Vrs the GM mentality. And that phrasing is, imo, incorrect. If your campaign has a BBEG who is trying to accomplish something, and your players are veterans, you can totally go vrs in this. Play smart, cause they should be. Take advantage of rules cause they should be. Be fair in it, but its war. You shouldnt go out of your way to create an encounter with 0 ways out. Victory should always be possible. But so should defeat. Though if you are doing an adventure campaign dungeon delving ect for fun thats more world building and creative for the players.

Aren't two week notices more of a courtesy than an obligation anyway?
