Because his character is English, Nandor is from the middle east and Nadja is from eastern Europe so Kayvan and Natasha obviously couldn't use their real accents. Matt does however use his comedy voice rather than his regular voice, like he does in most comedy shows.

Personally I'd argue he is more talented than Jack Black in terms of his writing ability, but Jack Black is a more diverse actor, or at least based on their previous work I've seen Black perform a lot more variety, whereas I've only really seen Berry perform as his 'charming, old school sex pest' character in most of what he has appeared in. In Toast of London however, which he co-wrote with Arthur Mathews (of Father Ted fame) his character is less charming and more grumpy, though still a sex pest (but, I'd argue, a bit more of a progressive sex pest). I've seen Berry play a very similar character in Mighty Boosh, Garth Marenghi's Dark Place, IT Crowd, House of Fools, Toast of London and now What We Do in the Shadows, which has led me to believe he is either typecast or just really loves playing this type of character.

This is how most British people act together - we don't go screeching over the top fake enthusiasm like Americans.

You guys are throwing alot of mud at this show, it's gotten alot of positive ratings, and I believe it captures the feel of the movie quite well, the way I look at the film is basically the same way you watch this is spinal tap, and the show here is essentially like the office, just with vampires. Although they did turn up the crude humor a bit for the show, but I think that works quite well as the actors play it off like something completely normal instead of absurd. Kind of reminds me of the basic overall humor of the addams family, something I'm a huge fan of. The best example of this I'd Lazlo's garden. To him and to an extent Nadja and Nandor it's a prize worthy thing of beauty, but to the viewers it's just a sorta gross out visual gag. Nothing more nothing less. They're essentially playing off the taboo of modern vampires again in a new way with the show that they probably couldn't do in the movie. Essentially using as a dart board to see what sticks and what doesn't in terms of direction for the tone of future episodes of the show. Although the one person I probably am not a fan of is the Colin Robinson character. He feels too shoehorned at times. But I adapted to that feeling quickly.

And that it is another mockumentary, but with cheesy special effects
