Sounds like you have what they call in the boating world two-foot-itis. Another foot at the back and one at the front would solve all of your problems. But then once your bed issue was solved and the tongue issue solved another shortcoming would suddenly appear. Like say for instance, if the dinette was a foot deeper and the wet bath was a foot longer, which would also give you more counter space and now you have a 24 foot trailer and you need another axle, a bigger fridge, and extra burner and do you know what? A slide out would sure open up the floor space wouldn't it?! Ha! I'm just poking fun and making light of what you already said and that is that there is no perfect trailer out there. Grateful for pointing out your gripes whatever they may be. They make the possibility of ownership that much more real for the rest of us. I would like to say that you should always remember to be always content with what you have because no matter what it is, it is always someone else's dream that may never come true. Cheers!

Love your videos!! We got our 2022 late last year used it 3 or 4?times and love it!! We downsized from a class A motor home so it did take a bit getting use to the smaller size but the build quality is second to none.

Really disappointing to hear how cold the walls get in 40-50 degree weather. For that “build quality” you keep mentioning, I’d expect a better insulated wall design. I’ve seen the build videos by Intech and there is only a thin insulated foil layer in the walls. I had not heard about the condensation issues with all that high dollar glass. All of the sheet OSB wood product that comprises the interior panels such as the dinette and bed is very sensitive to moisture. I guess it would be great for camping only in arid environments but condensation is a huge concern for me. I definitely appreciate your honesty and thorough review! Thanks!

Good honest video. I can see why the plugs would bother you by the bed. No way anybody is getting out of that bed without waking one another. I was curious about it since we had once considered buying a Sol Horizon. Interesting about the smell. I start to sneeze in some new RVs. I agree about that dinette cushion, very similar to our Tab.

To our knowledge, the hitch on the Sol Horizon can't be extended. Regarding the 'new RV smell', we kept ours vented (windows and roof vents open) as much as we could when traveling. When we stored it, I kept the roof vent open slightly for a minimal amount air circulation, etc. Thank you for watching our videos!

These are important points you guys make, at this price point - no double pane windows, and no insulation? I am actually very surprised about that. Time to look at other trailers, Like Lance for example, offers 4 season insulation. I do love the modern look of this one, but those are very important things when you're camping, and the bed of course! what a pain! I'm currently in a custom van conversion, the bed is also a pain to make up, but I have havelock wool insulation and a Webasto heater, and I know the difference those things make camping in 40/50s overnight temps, it's nice and toasty. Keep that in mind for your next RV. Thank you.

These units look like a big improvement over something like the Casita which is the first real camper I owned but from what I can tell from the videos it looks like there's far too much fiberglass inside which IMO could cause other problems like condensation, cold walls, etc. It looks like this really isn't a true all season camper. Casita lines their walls with carpet but after several years, that starts decomposing and shedding which is really a problem.

I agree about the bed! We’re still using the factory mattress over the pad like you have and the mattress is breaking down after just 4 short trips. It’s ridiculous how we have to climb out of bed during the night and I get the back wall. I do use a body pillow along that wall to keep from freezing. I also usually hit my head on the cabinet over the bed when I get out. Another thing is we have no one to do warranty work within a 300 mile radius. AND an alarm goes off with 2 different patterns that we haven’t found the reason for. It freaks us out during the night. Where do YOU put your clothing when using the trailer? Somewhere in the trailer, or kept in your truck, or?? We got our trailer new last May and the odor is still present. I’m sensitive but my husband can’t smell it.
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 2 года назад
Merry, completely agree with everything you said! A lot of the points you brought up I forget to mention in the video. When we got our factory mattress it was a 3 inch thick slab of foam. I heard they are now putting in memory foam, but not sure if that's what you got. Either way, the mattress definitely needs to be upgraded. Yes, I've hit my head rising up from bed and it hurts! It's like gymnastics on that side trying to rise up from sleeping position, not hit your head on the cabinets and arch yourself over the person beside you to get out in the small opening and not hurt them while climbing over. The warranty work is a valid concern. Definitely something to consider for people buying. I'm not sure what's up with your alarm. Is it the one by the kitchen sink under the bed drawer that is easily bumped? For clothes, it is an issue. And I find the storage to be subpar, considering the cabinets over the bed will barely hold anything. I do keep my clothes in a cloth basket which I put at the end of the bed underneath the TV during the day. I show it quickly in our Sol Horizon video tour, so you might want to see that in the bedroom section. Otherwise, for longer trips we stuff things as good as we can in the overhead cabinets, and over dinette. Definitely nothing that needs to be hanged or will wrinkle. However, we travel for weeks, not just a few days. We need more clothing for those trips.
@sherylvanvooren8898
@sherylvanvooren8898 2 года назад
Hi Merry, on clothing storage, we keep ours in the drawers under the bed and fridge for easy access. (Items we need to access less often go over the bed). The trailer is SMALL so our philosophy is "fewer clothes...more frequent laundry"....just as our policy on food is "carry less...shop more". Whether traveling Europe or camping we like to travel light.
@marykh59
@marykh59 2 года назад
@@CouchPotatoCamping I’ll check your video tour again to learn things I missed the first go. The overhead cabs are even a challenge for me to get to and I’m 5’10”! The magnets are so strong that it’s difficult to get the cab open most of the time. I’ve thought about sticking something thick and solid on the ones we use mostly when on a longer trip to save my arm strength 😅 and lower my frustration. I never thought to just remove the table for ease of lounging there! 🙃 Do any of your vids address ideas for pairing down clothing for trips? Some may think that silly but it’s a game I rarely win when traveling. As for the alarm that screams in patterns like it’s doing Morse Code, it sounds like it’s coming from overhead in the a/c unit, but it’s not on.🤷🏻‍♀️ Thank you for all your input here AND your personable, informative videos! I did use your links in ordering the storage bins 🙌🏽 and the fiber pad🙌🏽. Happy Trails to you!

Have you ever tried an exped mattress? You could potentially fit two LXW size next to each other. They're the most comfortable blowup mattress I've ever experienced. And with two, you can inflate each of yours specifically to what you prefer. And they might be thin enough to put the coconut mattress pad underneath.

We did. It was longer in length than we wanted to tow. We already had had a larger travel trailer and were frustrated trying to park it and drive. We LOVE our used 2019 Horizon, ...but, of course, a walk-around bed would be ideal. Our friends with a class C have exactly the same complaints about enclosed bed limitations and also cold walls...so I think it is a common complaint on any trailer or RV with an enclosed bed. After hearing about their experience we proceeded with open eyes. As far as keeping toasty in bed we have an unconventional approach...we sleep in sleeping bags with sleeping bag sheets( easy to remove and wash). We keep the sleeping bags under the comforter during the day to keep things looking tidy. WE use two body pillows when relaxing in bed and at nite we put one body pillow against the wall at the foot, the other body pillow at the head and we place a third sleeping bag along the back wall to keep our sleeping space cozy. Hubby is 6'2" and is fine with arrangement. If we don't have the dogs with us we do split up with one of us sleeping on the dinette side (but that is a rare trip when we are without the greyhounds who sleep on the dinette side). I hope you find a comfortable pad... I found a memory foam pad that suits my need for cushioning. My husband loves a hard surface to sleep on so I have a pad and he does not. At home we are are a sleep number couple. If your comfort is impaired maybe you could consider removing the little shelves so you can get a larger mattress. Good luck on getting comfortable... we love your videos...keep 'em coming. We followed your lead on storage solutions and installed the digital lock which we love (Daniel's narration and explanation were so clear and professional on that). Thanks again!

Sheryl, Great ideas! Yes, a bed next to a wall in any RV is going to be cold! It's not just Sol Horizons. We came from a walk around Queen Short bed and found it to be more spacious than a conventional queen mattress in the Sol, so the space around the mattress helps. We have heard about sleeping bags. Just don't want to feel like camping inside an RV, LOL! It would help though. We do have a similar set up for insulating the walls. Instead of a body pillow (which I've tried), we use all of the throw pillows from the dinette and line them up on the side wall and behind the head. Then we found some inexpensive blankets at Walmart which work really well, and place those behind the pillows. They are polyester fleece and really insulate the area without as much bulk. I was wondering how your husband fit in the bed with all of the pillows, but then realized that the TV in a 2019 Horizon is higher up and gives you more space at the end. Yes, I keep trying to find a mattress solution. We've bought a lot of mattresses and getting them in and out is not fun! So glad Daniel's narration helped with the digital lock! We really do love using the RV Lock a lot! Happy travels!!!

Nice video! Thx! As you both know, sleeping comfortably is so important when traveling in your trailer. Now, having two people in the bed does raise some issues but is it still comfortable for your husband who is 6ft if he was to sleep by himself? Is it comfortable for you if you were to sleep by yourself? You said trying to find the “ right “ mattress was challenging. So is it more of a “ space “ issue or “ mattress “ issue? Hope this makes sense. Thx!
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 2 года назад
Totally makes sense! Trying to find the right mattress that is comfortable changes for everyone. There are many people that are perfectly happy with theirs, so it is subjective. For me, it is a matter of finding the right type of "mattress" that can be accommodated in the space. And the right mattress for me isn't necessarily one that you would need. You could be fine with a thinner mattress and topper. There is only 8-9 inches from the bed platform to the USB port and electrical outlet that is located underneath the permanent side tables mounted on the wall. And then there is the window that will be covered with larger mattresses, too, if you were to get a larger size. We have slept individually on the bed, while the other sleeps on the dinette. In fact, we do that a lot. Daniel also gets headaches laying in the bed, so for us we just haven't found a comfortable solution. But when it's just one of us in bed, it's more spacious, but not any more comfortable. We have the specs and dimensions in this blog post for more info: couchpotatocamping.com/intech-sol-horizon-specs-dimensions/

We have thought about that, too. No, there is no shelf. However, the kitchen sink with the roll over drying rack does make a really great shelf that we use all of the time while sleeping. Would you be able to use a cabinet overhead as a shelf with the door open? Not sure. Those cabinets are really shallow and sloped inside so not much fits in there, but who knows?

Great question. We personally didn’t have any issues. However, we tend to be efficient travelers and have towed enough miles to get our cargo we carry in the trailer and in our tow vehicle down to only what we truly need. We certainly didn’t start RVing that way but we’ve made enough mistakes along the way to get it right for us.

I have a 2019 Sol Horizon and there are a couple of items that could use improvement. They are different than yours, and your list is differnt than mine of course, I agree dual pane windows would be nice. Yes, getting out of bed when two people are there is a pain. However, its only a 19' trailer one cannot expect everything. I did drool over the new Terra, but quickly got over that envy;) Bigger table is on my list, not a huge table but slightly larger. When camping (two people) we run out of room on the table, its just big enough for two plates, silverware, same glasses but that's about it, no room for serving dishes, wine bottle, condiments or much else. Add two floating shelves in the front of the trailer, one in each corner near the panoramic window, great to store stuff when eating. Bigger shelf in front of the microwave, say about 3-4" should do it. New shelf above circuit breaker/fuse box. There is a small bit of trim and a USB plug, but no where to place a phone. This shelf only needs to be about 4", and would be extremely useful. Other than that I love the trailer, build quality, design, engineering are all first class. I campare the Intech Sol to Airstream with a big savings.

Hi there, please tell me why you don’t have a weight distribution hitch?
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 2 года назад
For us, not having a weight distribution hitch is a direct result of our tow vehicle's specifications. Our Ford F150 is equipped with a factory installed tow package, a moderately stiff rear end (for a 1/2 ton pickup truck), and it has a tow hitch that can easily handle the tongue weight of the InTech Sol Horizon. Given those features of our tow vehicle combined with the fact the tongue weight of our Sol Horizon is well under 1,000 pounds loaded (approx. 550 lbs) our particular truck didn't require weight distribution and it did not require sway control. The need (or lack of a need) for a weight distribution hitch and sway control is truly dependent on one's particular tow vehicle's specifications. One shouldn't merely broad-brush an assumption that a particular model of pickup truck or SUV's ALL have the same tow characteristics. One really should look at their particular vehicle's towing capabilities to confirm. I could, for example, line up five Ford F150 pickups next to each other and it's quite possible they each could have different max towing limits, max hitch weight ratings, etc. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions. We're happy to help!

No issues with the width. The ‘box’ of the trailer was the same width as my truck so I was able to see down both sides of the trailer when towing without the need for mirror extensions. @CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping Год назад
Towing the Horizon was great. Unless there were strong crosswinds, I rarely knew it was back there. Gas mileage was about the same as our previous, larger travel trailer we averaged about 10 - 12 MPG towing the Horizon. Empty weight of Horizon (no gear, no liquids in any of its tanks, etc.) was around 3,200 LBS. Our Horizon loaded (we tend to travel light even on 30 day trips) weighed in around 3,800 LBS with roughly 560 LBS on the hitch. I did not use a sway bar nor a weight distribution hitch (WDH) towing the Horizon since our F150 was fully capable with the factory tow package, etc. that negated us needing a sway bar or a WDH (this will vary greatly depending on what an individual's tow vehicle may be).
