Whenever you have an incredibly niche hobby that ends up becoming a part of your daily life, like wearing historical fashion everyday, it can feel very liberating to meet others with the same deep interest. That's why it was such a joy to create this collaboration with @AdelaideBeemanWhite and @mspennywhistle who are also both daily wearers of historical fashion. In this video, we go through what we each wear in a week, taking you across a journey of seven days of outfits. Even though our clothing all technically fits under the label of historical fashion, our unique styles are incredibly different, making videos like these so much fun to explore.
I, personally, lean more towards mid Victorian fashions and a lot of working-class styles, often opting as well to mix decades or even centuries together to generate looks I love. Adelaide, on the other hand, is very firmly set in the mid 1890s. Grace wears a lot of late Victorian and Edwardian fashion. We hope you enjoy watching this collaboration. I have a lot more fun content planned over the next couple of months, so stay tuned!

I love how different you all are! The first girl mixes periods a bit, the second sticks pretty strictly to one time period and is very accurate, and the third mixes fun modern patterns in with her socks and pockets. How fun to see everyone's personal likes and styles.

@AdelaideBeemanWhite I have a theory that could explain the phenomenon you mentioned. Ancestral memory is proven to be prevalent in humans and animals. We inherit the dna of up to our third great grandparents at least (depending how the genetic inheritance plinko goes). Personally, my whole life I've felt most myself when living as close to how my maternal line going back (maternally) to my great grandmother's mother did in New York after her family ended up there after the Irish Famine. She only lived to be 32. So 1868 to 1900. What bonkers about this is that I never knew anything about my family's history or even my ethnic heritage until a few years ago but always wanted to dress in clothes from this Era, was drawn to books and movies from this Era, as well as music and dance. Turns out (thanks to genetic testing) I learned that I actually inherited the most dna from this line than my others 😮 this is the only one like this in my whole tree!

I can see why Adelaide picked that time period! I enjoy androgeny, so I got excited when she said that this was when women started dressing more masculine, as in cool stuff like starched collars!!! And the delight I feel thinking about wearing such cool sleeves every day!!! And, of course, the style suits her and I can see how confident she feels, even when she isn't pretending to be a model.

I’m glad I only found out there was a taboo around outfit repetition after I was old enough to not care. I’m autistic so i just didn’t realise there was an unspoken social rule around rewearing clothes. I can’t even imagine how much clothes someone would need to never repeat a look!

I only knew this was a rule because of watching televised red carpet events as a kid, but I always just assumed it was for celebrities! 😂 I really can’t imagine wearing a new outfit everyday. That sounds exhausting and expensive. Plus it’s nice to get as much use out of a garment as possible I think!

Fun story time from one Marry Poppins to another. So I crochet and have since middle school. I had a purse from Walmart that I used as a pencil pouch/yarn holder. I could fit 3 whole skeins of yarn into that thing and often did. One time during math I had finished the test early and had taken out my yarn to start a project. Once most of the class was done one of the other kids noticed me and asked where the heck I had been hiding that yarn. I showed them the rest of the yarn in my bag and they deemed me Marry Poppins.

I loved seeing someone who mixes elements that are wildly out of the time period with their outfits, as I do this a lot. I have been working towards wearing historic clothes every day, mostly from the 1750s to 1780s, but I am not picky about specific years or decades, I have lots of modern, mostly thrifted things that just felt like they were close enough or the right vibe, and I have a renaissance style cap that I often finish this anachronistic jumble off with. It sounds like a mess, but I've felt like it has come together pretty well, made something all my own, so it's really nice to see that I am not the only one that does this sort of thing! It's done so well here too, all of these outfits look great! Definitely a boost to the confidence

Yay for antique fur validation!! I have inherited a couple of furs from my ancestors that I love to wear in the colder months. I feel like I am not only staying warm and comfortable in a practical way, but also celebrating the animals who gave their lives to provide warmth and comfort to my 4th generation self. I do NOT purchase fur of any kind just to be plain about this controversial topic. Thank you for mentioning the comfort of American Duchess shoes. I have often wondered how their shoes would compare to my favorite brand Fluevog. Thanks all 3 of you for modeling your outfits!

I wore contemporary fashions in high school and was called grandma. Those hippie costume-wearers just didn't get it. Keep bringing your wonderful sensibility to the world. I do want to bring more historical clothing into my personal style, though the farthest I would probably go back is something along the 1910s or 1920s, the closest I usually get to that is the 1940s or 1950s.

Historical fashion has never fazed me as being weird or costumey. I think mostly because my moms family is Japanese from Paris and my obāchan (grandma) still wears kimonos and I wore them a lot as a kid when I'd visit her. When I lived in Japan kimonos are still worn a lot and not seen as historical dress up. I really like 1890s fashion and the tea dress looked so comfy. I'd argue something like Egirl or goth fashion and Keis (Japanese fashion) wear just as must items and accessories. Just Wear what you want, life is too short to do otherwise.

I am trying to incorporate more natural clothing into my wardrobe. I have noticed how wool is actually quite cool in the summer! I am 66 yrs old and love dressing in working class historical clothing. I love my 18th century clothing as well as covering 1900- 1924 clothing. I knew my granddad well and he was born in 1880 and lived until 1969. I sewed long skirts and dressed little house style because I was a hippie! I feel I dress my spirit most of my adult life and why change now! You are all smart young women. Carry on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i remember preppies wearing button-down shirts back in the day: back then, "button-down" referred to being able to button the collar points down to the body of the shirt (the cool kids popped their collars...back like drac...no button-downs for them). we used to call a shirt that buttons down the front a "button-front" shirt (i.e., all button-down shirts are button-front, but not all button-front shirts are button-down). a button-down person was considered more straight-laced than a pink-and-green-wearing collar-popper.

It’s so lovely you do too! I can definitely understand feeling like you need some more accessories, shirtwaists. I’ve also found creating matching skirt/blouse or shirtwaist sets and then mixing them up really helps, especially if there’s a colour palette you really lean towards.

Reacting to the "lawer costume": it's so interesting because I do tend to seperate my outfits by what they're used for. I do tutoring, so whenever I go to teach a class I say I'm wearing my teacher costume because I will want people to percieve me in a certain way. While, if let's say it's summer and I'm just enjoying life I might as well wear a bralette, and that is NOT a teacher costume =D I can't say I like one more than another, I really enjoy having different looks, so that I don't force myself to commit to one single fashion/style ^^

I like Adalaide's 1890's clothes and yours the best. For myself, I am only just starting to dabble a little bit in Edwardian clothing, but my normal wardrobe is closer to the modern Anabaptist people's form of dress. Though, I am most certainly not Anabaptist in belief. Anabaptist refers to Conservative Mennonite and Amish. I have a general standard of modesty that my faith asks me to wear, but what form that takes is entirely up to me.

This was a fun episode. I like what you did with the Icelandic sweater. I wish I would have known of you here in Iceland while you lived here. I dress Edwardian style daily, but I also add the accurate touch of anything Japanese being very trendy during the late 19th century, by collecting and wearing haori pretty much everyday. It feels much more comfortable than modern clothes, both thanks to the cut of the outfits and the fabrics used. It also makes me feel really good about myself. I just love the elegant efficiency of 1900-1905 clothes, and the Gibson style buns are both cute and practical as well. It attracts a lot of positive attention in general!

This was so fun to watch. I wear a mix of historical and modern clothing. Almost all that I made myself. And all 100% black! Lol it’s what I like. I to have vintage fur that I wear. I call it ‘recycled’. Also some antique pieces made by family members, that I dyed black. :) My least favourite thing people have said regarding my clothing. Was when someone called my usual Victoria skirt and tank top combo as ‘a prairie dress’. That gave me bad LDS vibes.

This was so beautiful. I love all your outfits they’re so cute~. Today at church, I wore a calf length under dress (that looks similar to a hanbok) and a fitted little vest with a fairy pattern, inspired by Florentine bodice with a square neckline. I was told I looked like a princess and prairie girl. I thought it was funny, I hope to one day to make more historically inspired outer wear too. Edit: I have a guy friend who says I dress Amish too! It’s probably for the same reason, since it’s only really coverage, nothing is amish about it, especially since I don’t wear bonnets or hats.

I always love seeing these kinds of videos, it gives me so much inspiration. I try to wear historical clothes whenever I go out, but my body has not yet adapted to the layering so I can only do it around half the year when it's cool out. Which means I start around the same time as the run-up to Halloween so everybody initially thinks it's a costume thing.

I'm swooning over these gorgeous clothes, especially yours - they remind me of something from Little Women! It must feel so amazing to dress like this every day. I try to incorporate elements of historical dress into my outfits, such as a brooch or a historical hairstyle, but because I'm only 15 I don't have the money or skills yet to wear fully historical!

Y’all are living my dream that I didn’t know I had, this dream like crept up on me. But i keep realizing that if I *could * dress this way I’d be ecstatic! I’d love to live in a town where the people preserve history and music and go to the historical/Renaissance festivals. I’d love to play fiddle and preserve bluegrass music and music from the founding of America. I’m trying to get my mom to live closer so she can teach me how to sew. She would create her own sewing patterns so i know she can teach me anything. ❤️🪡🧵 i just wish I knew how to get there. I guess eat the elephant one bite at a time😆

Fashion cycles. Adelaide, I'd like to say that you should be able to adapt your historical look into something that will work in a law practice. I find it fun to see how this type of sewing has evolved. I got my degree in Clothing & textiles in 1970. Loved history of fashion classes.

I have a very old mink stall as well sadly missing the tails on the edges.. I was given this by my great great aunt ( on the paternity side of my ex family lines).. Eileen was born in 1897 & this was her mothers mink.. she lived till she was 97 yrs old.. So one day I hope to have an outfit to suit the mink stall..

Omgosh I am totally digging Grace's socks. I love how fun they are. They remind me of a pair of flamengo socks someone bought my daughter when she was 7. I love everyone's styles. So unique and so much fun. I noticed recently that my own modern wardrobe is starting to wear out and look thread bare. To be honest I have seen hobos dressed better than me. Not that I'm bashing anyone. It's just I wear my clothes until they are almost nothing. Growing up poor, it was always second hand clothing. New clothes from the store were a rarity. Now that I am content with who I am and where I am in life I have been trying to incorporate more historical clothing into my life. My most recent addition is a 10 gored princess skirt from TV that I made from some really pretty batik from my stash. I got it orginally to make the walking skirt with but never got around to it. The boning in the princess skirt helps give me the back support I need until I can get a corset made or make one myself. Slowly over this winter I will be adding more and more historical clothing into my wardrobe as my modern wardrobe wears out. It was good to see a cameo appearance from sweet Rúna again. Hopefully we will see her again in the future. Anyways another fun vide5. See you next week ❤

I studied calligraphy and I was taught to move from the shoulder rather than the wrist for more precise movement. I didn't keep up on it but thought that tip really helped my lettering. You are doing amazingly well. Your swirls are pretty.
