The Justice Department says Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old airman in the Massachusetts Air National Guard, is the man responsible for leaking dozens of classified documents in an online chat group. National security correspondent David Martin has more from the Pentagon.

They are arms for US intelligence. They want you to believe the anonymous source to give you a character witness, but won't tell you the content of the documents. Many doubts. @@metafication they act like it’s so classified and I understand why. But you also gotta understand that it’s obvious the Russians know where they’re at. They know. They’ve got the tech. The only reason I feel like they’re hiding this from the American people is because there has to be something in those documents that would go against what the government wants people to follow. It may not be the entire narrative of the war, but it might be a fraction of something that they don’t want the American people knowing about… it could be anything from war crimes committed by Ukrainians or the Russians, doing some thing that they shouldn’t be doing. It’s very clear the United States government is hiding this for a particular reason they know the enemy knows this information already. So hiding it from us is kind of weird.

There should've been better management of access to classified documents. No way someone of his position should've had ability to access classified info unless he went out of his way to obtain the documents. Address the security gaps.

The classified world works on three pillars. 1. You have to have a clearance and proper training and sign that you understand your duty to protect the information. 2. You have to have a need to know. Just having the clearance is not reason enough. 3. The system is based on trust. If we can't trust people who work behind the "green door", to not deliberately leak classified, then the system cannot stand. If Hillary Clinton had been held accountable, or Biden, or the supreme court leaker, any of the other "executive-level" leakers and mis-handlers--maybe this kid might have thought twice before doing what he did. If a parent drinks and smokes, they should not be surprised when their kid gets caught drinking and smoking.

When you get your clearance it's fully explained that if you disclose information it will mean a fine and or jail time. He fully knew what he was doing was wrong but he did it anyway. Unlike others who sell secrets or do it for political reasons. Our guy just wanted to show off. The damage is the same so you have to do the time.
