i love how you said, you dont "NEED a roof top tent, or NEED a fridge" you NEED adventure" this is actually something you dont hear from people who overland of go out adventuring.. People forget that you dont need $30k in gear to go camping or out in the wilderness. "it IS a luxury"...Great video

Greg and Hogland you are spot on with the adventure , my brother and i did a 650 mile 9 day overland in Nevada last year in a jeep and a Toyota . my brother is type 1 diabetic and this got him on a vacation for the first time in 20 years , we had a great time ,had to take special care to keep the insulin cool . were planning to do another one this spring from Denver to Reno

One thing I do to bypass for a fridge is a good cooler and I freeze 4 1 gallon water bottles. Stays cold over a week easily while still being able to drink it and cook with. Cutting weight is key for fuel management.

I've never been much of a truck guy. I bought a Subaru WRX 5 years ago and it's been fun, but I feel like I'm missing something. Over the past year, I notice trucks on the road and think "That's what I'm missing." I've looked at all kinds of trucks and pictured myself in them, but most are probably too much for me. Your channel (which I just discovered 2 days ago) has been great. I never imagined that I'd be interested in a Tacoma, but here I am... The Tacoma looks like the perfect truck for what I would ever do with a truck. +1 sub! I've been looking to sell my WRX for a while now and I think I finally know what I want to get. Keep up with the videos, dude! Really cool channel and great video production.

Nice video Mateo and Ken, I camp when its not winter here in Central Canada,LOL I use to over pack and did often bring the kitchen sink, I learned very quickly what is and is not needed to bring and some items that you always bring that you may not use and can be real lifesavers at times , so they always have room instead of some other stupid things i can simply do without, cellphones without a doubt are a lifesaver if you breakdown, they all have GPS that works to give someone you location to come and assist if you are broken down and a 2 way radio of sorts there is always someone on the airwaves that can get help for you, water always take more than you need, and a bottle that has a proper filter in it in case you run out of bottled water, 👍 next video already looking forward to it

Would love to see more from that trip. I don't have a true offroad vehicle at my disposal. I would also have to drive quite far to even start such an adventure (I live in the center of Switzerland) BUT in 2018 My wife and I have taken a 1 month and 5000 mile long trip to the black sea and back. We crossed through 17 countries, experienced so many great things. We all did it in our trusty Skoda Octavia 4x4. Absolutely love trips like that. My big hope is that we can one day do a US and Canada crossing (6-12 months). Keep up the adventures! Many greetings from Switzerland.

I'm an older person @ 67 and have been driving on dirt and camping as long as I can remember way before it was called overlanding and became a huge industry. I've always used a camper shell and a sealed tailgate. You can eliminate most of the dust and dirt but never all of it. Looking at that dirt covered gear and that rig I'd have a hard time enjoying the great outdoors. The openness of the rack system which is currently in vouge and what's currently being marketed is not for me, I'll stay old school, I think the camper shell is a better and easier to live with.

Mid size overland trucks fall short on mpg. Its too bad that trucks of this caliber can't be outfitted with diesel engines. They just are game changers. Less fuel needed equals more beer room. My '01 Dodge Cummins outfitted with all the gear and trailer for long family trips gets 17 to 18 on the highway and 16mpg in 4 low. Yes it weighs 10,000lbs but it doesn't get stuck if weight is balanced. Awesome Tacos. Hopefully there will be a shift to diesel engines in the US for these trucks. cheers

We keep most of our gear locked away in storage boxes at night so critters don’t get in, and sleeping in a rooftop tent definitely helps with them getting into that as well 🤙😂

You know in aviation; fuel endurance is very important. There’s something called carrying fuel to carry fuel; I know its hard to calculate on a ground based vehicle; but carrying significantly more fuel doesn’t mean you get better fuel endurance (because of the extra weight). Just a random thought.

12 to 13 on the highway? Man u got at least another 30k worth of stuff done to the stock tacoma. Toyota or a 3rd party needs to figure out a hybrid system or just something that let's us Tacoma owners get similar mpg to even a full size sierra. 12 to 13 on the highway is crazy man

One thing I don't like about a pickup truck is your stuff easily gets dirty on the truck bed like this guy's taco. Cleaning it will be a pain in the ass. You say you don't need a rooftop tent and fridge but you have it 😆
@HoglundOverland
@HoglundOverland 4 года назад
I love my tent and wouldn’t do it any other way but you don’t really need a roof top tent to go out and explore. You can do it with a ground tent. Or even just sleep in the truck. I know people that do that as well. The truck bed does get dirty but everything that’s in the bed is ok with getting dirty - like the chairs. My grill has a cover that keeps it clean as well.
