A tactical breakdown of what we learned about #ManchesterUnited in their disappointing 2-1 defeat against #Fulham And follow us on Twitter: / a_j_analysis Music by: • [non copyright music] ...
I'm sure the rest of the internet will point out all the issues at United so I thought I'd focus on a few more of the positives today (although the negatives are still there for all to see)
Your video sounds like an analysis of Leeds under Bielsa. Even in its best incarnation, I worry that what ETH is trying is too physically demanding for the PL.
Heard guys say we were outclassed, Brighton's 2 goals were gifts... Whereas we created a few good chances against them without them making errors and gifting us those chances. This fanbase is so fickle, they couldn't wait for a loss to starting the toxic crying. Most of these so called fans, are upset that Zirkzee and De Ligt aren't starting and doing 90 mins... These guys literally didn't have a pre season... There's no way they were going to just jump into the starting xi. This fanbase is truly brainwashed.
@@DarkArrow2k9 now here is one toxic fan...or you just might be another oponent fan...look here, brighton has been building far longer their club (because dan ashworth was working on it here, hence why we have dan ashworth now), they have a style far longer than we as man united..how long ago was ineos just came to united? so you mean spending money include as guarantee success (check chelsea please)..stop with this shitehousery that is spouting from you mouth..
This was our best game against brighton in terms of playstyle in the last few years but we need to improve in both the boxes if we wanna beat liverpool.
Your channel is one of the only ones i watch these days. Can always rely on you to be an adult. Crazy seeing the over-reaction to this game. People really do get carried away
You're right We can't move forward with all these Mctominay, Rashford, injured Shaw. Arteta might win a trophy since 2020, but we'd be wrong if we pretend Arsenal are not a force to reckon with. Arteta and the board got rid of the deadwoods, no matter how big their status or longevity was. Got proper, tactical ballers. Man Utd, on the other hand, are still keeping the likes of Mctominay because of moment goals.
It's still early in the season and we're not great yet, but things are looking better than last season so far. Some points of concern are a lack of finishing ability with the double false nine set-up. The amount of times we give away possession through sloppy passing or on the pitch misunderstandings. And as was the case this game, defensive positioning.
i said it last week i don't want to see mount and fernendes as 2 false nines I never want to see that shit again and its time we had a conversation about rashford
This channel gives the best analysis. Other channels I stopped following have mastered the art of churning emotions. Those two goals were avoidable. Who knows, we might win the title? It sounds overly ambitious, but we are United. Who knew we could win FA against city?
United played really well tactically and look sharp. it was unfortunate we were unfortunate not to have scored the 2 goals ruled out for offside. We also could have avoided the goals we conceded with better spatial awareness. Also, am surprised ETH is receiving a lot of stick for keeping Zirkzee and De Ligt on the bench. Please understand they havent had pre season minutes and must be wheeled in like they cost a fortune. Good game
Great analysis , I thought we played excellent compared to last season. We had a plan for each phase of attack and looked defensively solid. People who say we have no style after watching yesterdays game have no football IQ. Great analysis , everything you said was spot on !
I never thought i would say this but mount is is going to be very vital in the pressing this season. The intensity dropped when him and Fernandez were subbed. Onr thing i think united are have been lacking for years since Carrick, is s player that can spread long passes to switch play especially when we create overload. It's weird that lisandro martinez is the one that's really good at that
Martinez prefers the through pass in midfield. The defender I saw switching the ball I pre season was Yoro. Our fullbacks almost don't do it at all which is a shame because when they have the ball, the winger on the opposite side always has alot of space.
I am the only one who thinks we still have to show some patience? Our new players have just arrived, we are using Dalot as lf, we showed some good things as AJ said and the season is just starting
This game rlly pissed me off but we weren’t that bad tbh. But have to see de ligt and zirkzee start, Maguire needs to be dropped we know exactly what he’s about he’s been here for 5 yrs and the 2 false 9 midfielders hurts our attack
@@metechsolutions tbf the wingers had no one to aim to so either they have to beat 4 players or they pass backwards cos no one’s in the box which is why zirkzee needs to play. Agree w the deep line playmaker but don’t think we’re tryna to play with one, ten hag wants a destroyer
@joni.sirvio8867 This. Some utd fans are so focused on Rashford but all our wingers lose balls so easily. I don't think defenders in the league lose any sleep having to face Garnacho or Amad either. We need to seriously upgrade our wing options next summer. Can't be having wingers that are on and off through the 90 mins.
Apart from the subs and squad selection , there is no other point on which we can criticize ten hag , we have a set piece coach who I suppose is responsible not only to increase our goals through set pieces but also to make sure we maintain our shapes while defending a set piece but that is not the case , We have rud who's suppose to increase our attcking threat but still after 3 major games we still fail to convert our chances Things really got to get sorted asap otherwise its all gonna be like last yeasr
Football is better. My worst surprise was that even with very good defenders, this is where we failed. Attack and midfield aren't perfect but are better
How long does a transition last? I want ETH to succeed but you look at other teams that are playing slick football straight away under new managers and wonder what the hell we work on in training...
@scottsinner7530 how many of those managers are working with nearly a billion pounds worth of talent? Last season we were played off the park by loads of teams and frankly yesterday our only tactic seemed to be a blind ball over the top for Rashford to be offside for. I am "ten Hag in" but jesus we need to see something other than ping pong football.
I liked the way United builds from the back it's amazing. It needs a left back to balance properly Diego dalot can't give you that because his a natural right back
Once our pressing discipline and structure collapsed so did our control of the midfield and the game. All started after the mount sub,he had a good connection with bruno. Once mount was out so did bruno''s perfomance diclined.
I know Diallo scored but I don't think our wingers do enough. They hardly take on their fullbacks, they're just not direct enough. We also lack a central player who can carry the ball deep into the final third and play through balls into the ST or wingers or draw fouls in dangerous positions. Finally our fullbacks don't overlap or under lap enough.
@@TwentyFirstPilot I don't think that's the problem. Our wingers don't hold the width enough, they come inside way too much plus sometimes they receive the ball too deep (middle third) and I think that could be down to playing a really defensive line. (Edit) Another issue is we change shape way too much. I don't think our midfielders and attackers even know where each other are when they're attacking.
Facts. We don't have that great, tacticaly sound winger yet. All our wingers don't have that x factor yet, where all the other teams have that. Mitoma, luiz Diaz, doku.... none of our winger can hold a candle to any one of these
Panicked way to early to get the equaliser. Should have been patient and even if Mount had an I jury he should have brought on Ganacho for Mount then play Rashford in the middle for a couple of minutes then take him off for JZ. McTomminay for Mainoo because he was tired
We kept playing in our own half. We did very few meaningful things with the ball. Too many back passes. While Brighton were looking to create something every time they hard the ball
I think we are seeing good playstyle , our attack was good but we still need to finish chances, i dont think brighton were better team than us, but we need to improve defensively very much . People who are saying that garnacho and zirksee should have started are not understanding that they didnt attend preseason we should not push them , maguire was very good last game and de light is here for 10-12 days only so we needed to start maguire , mount was decent , rashford needs to improve ( he was good at moments) amad other than that goal was average garnacho needs explosiveness like top wingers . The only bad thing that eth did was to sub off bruno instead we should have subbed mainoo Lets not over react its just matchday2 we will do better , we were unlucky
I like the fact that you are pointing out for people that some players had no pre season minutes and their game time must be managed. We did okay overall. Amad had two paces misplaced when we could have done better, but he is pretty decent and understands the tactical system
Positive that we had a game plan and we could see it on the pitch. Dissapointing on some situations lacking concentration. Awful fans who are overreacting as we've done nothing. Toxic fans who only see results.
The difference btw last season's loss and yesterday's is last season, you could say we're well beaten, outclassed. But yesterday we weren't. And that's quite an improvement even though it's sad tosay that. Our XI has improved slightly with players like De Ligt, Mazraoui and Zirkzee still bedding in. But you can't expect big sudden improvement because our midfield is still the same, forwards the same. Rashford should be dropped. Garna and Amad still developing. So is Hojlund. It's really work in progress so we have do have to check our expectations. Sad but that's how much we've fallen. Brighton deserves all the credits. Look at how well they're run as a football club. Change of coaches, lost big players but still playing the same style and still our bogey team.
My analysis was very similar. Additionally Rashford rarely helps in the press and too slow to get close to number 34 throughout the game, really affected the effectiveness of the press. His head was down most of the game and didn't seem motivated, just going through the motions. I think it may be worth starting the press for 30 mins at the start of each half, but the other 15 mins we need to revert to counter attack football to give us a breather and allow us to use a different tactic. Hopefully Ruud will let the attacking players know that when we do get the ball back we need to have the attacking players running from a deeper position and running on to a forward pass and not directly to their feet. This will allow us to use their speed more effectively and also reduce us from being caught off side so often.
Yh! dats very true..... nd i wasn't happy ida with de time past 3yrs nw i hv observed dat tho we can lose at anytime in any game but we hv never win at lunchtime kick offs nd we've never win our second match under ETh ida 😂😂😂
Your analyze is spot on. I saw the same. Casimero was awful. We need replacement on the midfield for him. Another problem was Amad. He played very bad, should have scored from the perfect pass from Dalot but also he should have passed tot Bruno instead of Rashford when there was a 3 - 2 situation where we had a big chance to score.
We played in this manner against City, 1 win, 1 draw. So naturally, the fanbase started to have high hopes, high expectations. So a near miss against Fulham and a lose against Brighton feels disappointing. It's like the other managers have found out how to play against Ten hags 4222 like shape. Brighton were able to bypass MUFC press with clever passes from Steelman. Personally, I would like to see Zirkzee in starting 11 and also De Ligt. And a slight twist to game plan, during match time, to adjust. Have a plan B and C from the beginning. Ie. if Steelman keeps bypass our pressure, then adjust the gameplan.
All ETH needs to do is play his best team. That’s it. That way no one can say anything. The problem is he just doesn’t do that and so therefore deserves the criticism 100%. It’s clear his arrogance is trying to force Mount into this team to try and justify him buying him. Playing Maguire when you have De Ligt, why? And Maguire makes ANOTHER mistake yet again. We’re 2 games in but this is following on from last season. Who else has thought about Ruud being in the drivers seat?
Theres difference btw playing from the back and playing at the back. What's the point of building from the back to lose the ball in the final 3rd always?
We got players who: 1. Ball watch without reacting smartly to sequences of plays around him (Brain fart? Low situational IQ?) 2. Overcomplicate plays (playing cute?) The frustrating part is that these happens at critical junctions of the games when we either are in the best position to score OR in critical situation during defense.
I’m not a “Ten Hag outter” but I look at him and I don’t believe he knows what his best team is and what he wants to do. I’ve been asking this question since he’s been here, what is his style of play and what does he want to see with this United team? He seems to favour a team selection until it doesn’t work, then he changes it. He can’t keep on giving Rashford opportunities to “play himself into form”. Love it or hate it, this is the shit that Sancho has to put up with. Players in his position, consistently turning out stinkers and continuing to start. The manager will make changes for Liverpool but is that the team he wishes to continually use or is it just because it’s Liverpool. I’m not worried, it’s only a couple of games this season, yet it’s the managers 3rd season. He has a squad now, he has options. He should know what he’s doing and we should see a clear playing style.
We really need to get a midfielder in! Has I watched the game, in the 70th min, Mainoo and Casemiro where tired (both mainoo and Case had no legs). I don't think our pivot midfield is good enough to challenge for anything. We need to a solid playmaker and destroyer/dribbler at the pivot. Mainoo needs someone better than him or someone good enough to start over him so they can fight it out (to start). The same thing we have in the wings. AJ, can you do a video on this (if you have time?)
The big problem is the lack of players who can score goals. It was Uniteds second game without a striker. Dont understand why we bought 4 defenders and only 1 striker.
united should've scored two goals, the offside call is terribly unlucky. but defending lapses led to Brighton's goals. and ten Hag's persistence to start maguire and subbing on mcsauce for bruno is just baffling. maybe its time for tenhag to go
We don't have that great, tacticaly sound winger yet. All our wingers don't have that x factor you know? where all the other teams have that. Mitoma, luiz Diaz, doku.... none of our wingers can hold a candle to any one of these😢 So we have poor decision making and are unable to bear a man.
It was good game but we didn't learn from the past year we are losing games in the nick of time from individual error.......... And some good passing in the game but still united didn't play through the middle
If zirzkee hadnt touched that ball the story could ve been different I think the performance was decent better than last season so far..ETH has to take the blame for subbing Fernandez. We need to fix the near post defending its cost us 2 goals already..i think it's too early to start crying. People keep saying there nonparttern but i thinknits not true .. the pressing looks better the midfield is not as loose as last season , last season there was no pattern .The team just needs a little fine tuning and when the new signings settle it would be better .we also need to learn to keep concentration at the end of games..if we start pounding and barking at the tean dis early as fans we would contribute to the downfall going farward
De Ja Vu again! Why is EtH carrying Maguire for 2 seasons now. Getting De Ligt shows we can get rid of Maguire & Lindelof, Now we can persue for Todibo, Inàcio & Forfana!
That switch of play from mount happened once in 90mins, how is that a good example of play, Brighton figured out play out within 30mins and took control, expect the scousers to do so in about 15/20mins, they'll probably start by showing respect to us, come half time they'll go in, have a laugh and ruin us
Crazy how there are no truths in football. I’ve been hearing so many different opinions. You say we were well coached, Goldbridge says we were badly coached, Twitter users say whatever. Fascinating
mainoo made some serious errors Rasford was shitty Amad wasn't UpTo par the team wear worn out in 60min the left back slept and gave the second goal. overalls the team need more awareness on and off the ball to improve their tactical approach playing teams
We can't go anywhere when we play players out of position. Players have been cleaning Shaw's mess all these years, and the club, for reasons best known to them never bothered to reinforce a left footed LB. We also have to wait for Shaw to return all because "Dalot can also play LB". Man Utd seems to solve half of the problems and expect miracles to happen. It's not done. Mctominay, Rashford... These players need to be moved. But bias won't let them.
How many Top manager in this league reshuffle CB for no reason? When you do that in a game there would be lack of understanding and communication. If you want to play De ligt... Play him and bench the other, you don't have to reshuffle the defence because you want to please a player. Ten hag always do this and it disrupt the flow of the game. I don't understand him sometimes. And then Bruno for Mount makes sense but Bruno for Mctominay? My goodness! What a manager!
What are you complaining about? He probably took Maguire off because he was at fault for a goal and came off last week because he was injured and EtH didn't want to risk it
The defensive shape was so ineffective, they bypassed our midfield with ease and repeatedly. They were passing into spaces where we were not. This isn't about Casemiro, this is a tactical problem and the blame falls on ten Hag.
100%. EtH's tactics are questionable and he needs to get some blame for the performances. I don't understand how most of the time the idea is to take a few touches and launch it forward where we Mount and Bruno who aren't the best in the air.
That happened when Mount came off. The legs in midfield were lost and kobbie got tired. Mount presses aggressively which helps the other midfielder. I think Kobbie needs to rest. I feel like the Euros have affected him. Pep is resting all his England players. Mainoo can easily get burnt out.
@@lancerevo9747 we beat them 2-0 and they dominated the hell out of us?? I thought we were complaining about how teams dominated us last season? I'm yet to see that happening this season not even city dominated us like they normally do, we were just unlucky should have won with four goals, Brighton had two big chances and scored thiers we had two big chances and missed ours. We were definitely the better team.
a fool does the same thing over and over again and expects different results, well i guess im a fool for thinking this season would be different but lord maguire exists purely to prove me wrong
ten Haag's in-game management was atrocious. our overall play was better with Mount on the pitch in both games. subbing Bruno for Scott just destroyed everything, especially after bringing Garna on who could have exploited Brighton's high line
joao pedro is not that good of a ball carrier, the problem was the gap that always appeared in maguire and casemiro's spaces especially when they're in the same zone. because they're both lethargic those spaces can be exploited. that's the exact reason why ugarte is a must buy. having casemiro and maguire in the team against quick and mobile forwards will always cost us goals constantly. on the other hand we aren't creating sufficient chances to score more goals, and the chances we even create are not being converted. its a personnel problem. quite frankly we need to move on alot of players. ALOT OF PLAYERS. including rashford, irrespective of how you feel about him. his mojo is off. no longer holding his offside line, no longer able to beat his man hands down... its not looking good for him. Edit: after thinking about it, I think the best option for rashford now is to transition into being a striker, as his body and effectiveness has declined as a winger, he now lacks that explosiveness bit can still be a very effective poacher, similar to ETHs first season. thats the only role he is suited for now. he can still get it together this season, but he has to know united fans are by and large slow, reactive and won't give him along rope again. he earns around 400k a week. he NEEDS output. plus he now has the body frame of a nimble strong striker that can hold off a defender if he really puts his mind to it. I still believe in him but he should just move back into the striker role.
what does Rashy have to do when the LB isn't underlapping or overlapping. He cannot beat 3 guys alone. If he tries and he loses the ball you lot will still complain. Even Garnacho struggled when he came on because Dalot didn't offer any meaningful support.
I didn't see any big improvement from last season in the first 2 games. 1 st game we struggled to score and finally scored one and the second game we have lost. Even getting top 4 in pl is not easy now and we have started losing points already. Ten hag should drop rashford and mount and play garnacho on left and zirkzee as the striker.
If you watch the full matches there's a world of difference even in the interplay and how open our midfield was. On the other hand, we still can't score n the defensive lapses are still there though
I'm not impressed with what we've been doing as well, but you'd be lying of you say there's no improvement to last season. Well, if you're actually talking about the way we concede cheap goals, then you're right. But in terms of general play, there's a little bit of improvement
This defeat is on Ten hag. Why would you take Bruno off when you have a tired Mainoo that is on yellow card. Bruno can play deep, central, attack and even CB. Just keep Bruno on that pitch, damn it! Ten hag keeps making same mistake. The false 9 stuff was a mistake that worked against City. He kept on doing that, for how long? when you have proper striker. I'm so pissed.
Sack Ten Hag otherwise he will continue starting with useless, off form Rashord. Bruno should not should not be use up but in his role as an attacking midfielder to fill up our midfield.
Another season of heartbreak awaits us coz our manager cannot manage a game and his weird tactic of 2 false 9 midfielders when we have a STRIKER sitting on the bench. Sometyms ten hag makes me think he really jus wants out. Then Bruno for Mctominay sub😡😡😡😡.
No. The players we've bought haven't had a pre-season so he's easing them in to avoid injury, and the false 9 worked well for us in big games last season. The McT sub was dog shit though.
@@sunglee3935 he really needs to get checked out. I’m watching arsenal as we speak and you can see what an almost well oiled machine his team is. Our manager on the other hand, weird subs, keeping Antony in the squad for no reason, keeps playing underperforming players, relying on Mcluckinay etc. I don’t get this man to be honest. I’m jus baffled.
@@Paddythefriendlykiwi masroui didn’t train 3 days with the squad and what about his first two games would make u think he’s a new player!?! Nothing. Football players are jus that, footballers who’ve been playing all their life. All they need is direction and telactic and they good to go so I honestly don’t believe in this whole resting new players thing. I’ve never believed in it. But ten hag is just confusing me at this point I won’t lie.
@@chromeboy92 his only tactic is to abandon the midfield and hope for a fluke mcsauce goal instead of actually playing well, linking up and making assists and scoring goals. I’m tired of this. If they don’t get rid of him by Christmas, I’ll support Liverpool. None of my friends watch man utd anymore and they used to fans.
@@notharryhindsight7746Lol it's crazy, the Rashford out brigade clearly don't watch with their eyes because I'm not sure that Nacho won a single duel. We were objectively worse even tho he was playing against tired legs. I think he's a promising player but at this moment Rashford is a level or two better.
@@cogitoy7692 he should get a chance to start but he has actually been poor in both games despite coming on while players were tired. He runs into opposition even more than Rashford and I thought that wasn't possible. He also struggles with balance, decision making and passing, even his finishing is erratic. He is still developing but I just know the same fans gassing him up will be the first to tear him down.
Ten is in the wrong Manager nothing changed from last season nothing will change until he gets sacked United should never play out from the back goals are proof we don’t score goals what do you expect with no world class striker
Continued our leauge form from last season. Clueless fans claiming we played well with a late winner against fulham were the only fans surprised by the result today
Bla bla bla. We're better this season and it's a fact and just because we lost the game doesn't mean qe were bad and they were perfect in fact they just had good luck on their side this time. We're so much better than last season and if you can't see that because of a loss then I'm sorry. Form will change and match the performance eventually.
@SuperHarl007 in the leauge the new 4-2-4 formation has scored zero goals. And have only scored once we step away from it. Our goal difference is now 0. We are conceding less chances in the 4-2-4 but as soon as we try to score we change formation and we go back to last seasons end to end frantic display and we start conceding chances at a higher clip. If you think we've made progress you clearly aren't watching properly. This form is the form of last season and will see him fired before Christmas
