What Went Wrong? | Hailey's On It! 

Hinging a show on a plot device that we are told in the first episode will inevitably be solved immediately turned me off it. Sure, obviously all DTVA shows will solve their conflicts but it just felt so dumb and blatant. It also had the same issue SVTFOE did where there is a plot device that means the two main characters will end up together but then still tries to act like there’s a possibility they won’t. (And for the record with Kim Possible, there are zero hints of them ending up together in the show and the creators admitted they threw it in the movie to ‘give nerds a win’ lol. They then were forced to work around it in the renewal season.)

I just realized, if the show doesn’t get renewed, the series ends with Hailey dooming all of humanity because of teenage hormones and a dating app. 10/10 main character, gold star, best in the city

Ya know something, I think it should honestly be ILLEGAL to end a show on a cliffhanger

I remember being so annoyed by the ads for this show, and the two times I tried watching an episode, I just fell asleep. Not gonna miss this show, but as a Wander Over Yonder fan, my heart goes out to its fans - it’s never fun when your favorite show ends up being the least popular one.

My gripe with the show is that it keeps dragging its heels regarding the actual crucial parts of the plot; taking too much time to dive into the questions that have been looming in the background since episode 1, like "Why does her list determine the fate of the world?", "Who is sending all of the robots?", "What is the time-traveling scientist keep from Hailey", or even "Is there some connection with Hailey and the scientist?"

I don't want Hailey's on It to end like this. I really hope they greenlit it for a second season.

They didn’t needed the sci fi plot but since they decided to put it, they should have tapped into it, giving us Lore and mysteries to theorize about. And making all the lost items challenging and related to it

I feel like the show would've worked if they subverted expectations by having Hailey kissing Scott at the end of episode one, and then she realizes it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be, Scott's still her friend, etc. Only for it to be revealed that there's a much more embarrassing thing on the to-do list, which wouldn't be touched upon until the end of the season.

I hope for the fans’ sake, the show gets a second season, because this was a REALLY bad way to end off season one.

I just really hope it does have a chance of getting a season 2. I mean, the views and ratings are high and it got so many awards. It can’t just end on a cliffhanger.

Hayley’s On It is one of those shows that had too many cooks in the kitchen, if you know what I mean, as the story seems to be a mess. And the characters are all mediocre and sometimes forgettable. And the romance was just embarrassing. It’s another, will they won’t they, bullcrap with Hayley and Scott. And people saying that the will they won’t they crap in Inuyasha was bad. At leas that show had some interesting characters and a satisfying conclusion. Plus the humor is trying way too hard to be like the 2017 Duck Tales Show, Owl House or even Rick and Morty with the characters trying way too hard to look cool while telling jokes and snarky remarks.

the whole sanjay thing feels like when randy cunningham randomly said his name was Reginald beagle to throw off a villain only for that to actually be a person who goes to his school there it was funny because randy didn't know the guy even existed so he's just as flabbergasted as the audience is plus it was only necessary for a random non plot relevant episode

I was predicting that she would just kiss Scott platonically in the end. You can kiss someone without it meaning anything. And it would also help them stay just friends. (I would love a solely platonic male/female relationship, between two same-aged humans, that lasts a whole series. I can't think of any animated show where that happens.)

My Main Issues are ● Animation is sometimes lazy ● Beating around the bush like Starco ● Took wayyy too long to air ● Lack of promotion ● Overshadowed by Moon Girl

Not to be jakass here, but some of the characters LITERALLY looks like bitmojis, especially Scott!

The 2 issues that came up with me in particular were: - i didn’t even know the show started airing - they raised the price of D+ and cant afford 35 - 50$ a month for 1-3 shows who’s fates isnt even confirmed

If they don’t get another season, this will easily be the craziest cliffhanger I’ve ever seen a cartoon be left on.

It bothered me that Becker was never treated as a serious romantic rival to Scott, her crush was introduced at the end of one episode, and then dismissed the next time she appeared. The whole "dating your sibling's love interest" plotline had potential, and it was never used for anything. Imagine if at the end of season 1, Becker went to the dance with Hailey instead of Sanjay, that would've felt a lot more dramatic than it being some guy we've never seen before. Especially after The Owl House was cancelled, I'm getting the impression that Disney just doesn't want to have gay/bi main characters again, only side characters.

Please let Chucky,Monsters At Work and Hailey's on it get renewed.

“I will not kiss Scott Denoga” is imo a better title for this series, and proof that it probably would have been better as a movie. There’s no point in dragging a premise like this along. They could have easily told the whole story in one season. If the kiss was always the focal point, they would have needed to jump through several hoops to keep that interesting in long-form format. Idk. It’s a shame because I thought it was a sweet show but it totally failed to take off.

While I still don't mind the concept of Hailey completing the list to save the world, I agree with you that it isn't 100% clear as to how completing her list will do that. If her saving the world starts with winning the young person of the year award and being noticed by the mayor, then maybe there's one item on her list that might lead to that, but it wouldn't be because of completing the entire list. Also, I wouldn't really mind if the sci-fi/saving the world plot wasn't there, as I mainly appreciate the show for how fun it is, for the characters, and the friendship/romance. Hailey's On It would still be a pretty fun show if it was about Hailey completing her list items just because she finally wants to or if, as you mentioned, some personal thing motivates her to do so. Also, I don't completely agree on Hailey being a passive character, but to make her a more active character, I think it would've been better if rather than completing list items she wrote down in the past, that she has to decide on one new thing she wants to do each week. There was one episode where she wrote down something new in the list and Beta freaked out, saying she couldn't add new stuff to the list, but then it turns out that nothing bad happened from her adding a new list item. Someone I've been talking to about the show thought it would've been a better idea to have Hailey start out with a blank list/journal that she adds stuff to throughout the show and I agree with them. Hailey could've been a person who just doesn't know what she wants to do with her life, so she tries a bunch of new things until she's finally found her true passion/purpose. It also would've better if, rather than Hailey having a crush on Scott from the beginning and writing down that she wants to kiss him, Hailey could've developed feelings for him during the show and THEN decided to write that she wants to tell him that she likes him someday. Speaking of Hailey and Scott, I have a lot of thoughts about the finale, too many to write in one comment, but the main thing that was frustrating about it is (SPOILERS) how they were so many unnecessary things stopping Hailey and Scott from finally being together - the problem is not the romance, the problem is that it seems like they're going to overcomplicate the romance now when Hailey and Scott should have a simple love story. While I liked the moment when Scott finally realized he likes Hailey in the finale, it would've been better if he started liking Hailey earlier in the season, as well as realizing he likes Hailey because of a moment the two have together rather than because the phone app said they're a perfect match. Then, if Scott knows that he likes Hailey earlier in the season, both of them would be secretly crushing on each other until Hailey finally tells Scott how she feels at the dance. That would've been a great way to conclude the "hiding their feelings" part of their romance and get to the part where they're a couple. Of course, I don't think much will change once they're together, they're just going to continue having fun completing list items together and their relationship will be stronger because they no longer have to keep secrets from each other. I absolutely want a season 2, but I don't want them to drag out the romance storyline until the very end of the season. I hope that within the first few episodes of season 2, they have Hailey and Scott finally discover that they both like each other instead of waiting until the very end. Thank you for making this video! I've became a big Hailey's On It fan as of recently, but I'm absolutely fine with you talking about the problems you believe the show has. I don't think the show is perfect either, but I still really enjoy it and I hope the show gets a chance to prove that it can be even better in season 2. I like how in that montage you said right off the bat that Hailey just gives Scott a peck on the cheek. If all the other work arounds on the list worked why wouldn't this? Though I would've included Kristine becoming a hat fashion designer and becoming bigger than the one who first made the baseball cap.

I think the fact Beta constantly prodding her is annoying. He wasn’t even supposed to be an important character, but they enjoyed his voice actor so much they expanded his role. I think it would’ve been better if he stayed a minor character.

3:46 Thats the whole joke of the show. Hailey's On It is basically one giant joke poking fun at the Butterfly effect. The Butterfly effect is a theory that says even the most small changes can have a giant impact on the future. One example of the Butterfly effect is the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror V segment Time and Punishment. In that segment, Homer goes back in time to the prehistoric era and kills a mosquito. Homer killing a mosquito somehow caused Ned Flanders to take over the earth in the present. Hailey cleaning the couch should have nothing to do with stoping climate change in the future and its ridiculous that such a small action would effect climate change. Thats part of what makes the show funny. Something as small as cleaning out the couch some how had an effect on the future. Another reason why the list has mundane activities in it is because Hailey is only 14 and a lot of the list items are things a 14 year old could actually do.

This show feels like a disney live action show turned into a cartoon. it checks all the marks

It feels like they were going to do the same thing they did with Star Vs Evil, drag out the romance as long as possible, until the ending of the show where they then hook up and yeah, no. If that was the direction they were going to go with this show, then I think we dodged a bullet. Owl House just did this plotline much better, where they have Luz and Amity get together in the middle of Season 2. They didn't drag out their crush on each other all the way to the end, which I think was the better choice, since we get to see them together as a couple more, compared to Scott and Hailey, where it's clear they would've had this dragged on across many Seasons and it would've worn out its welcome fast.

14:50 same. Me and my little sister, who is in the show's main demographic but is even more of a DTVA fan than her peers, got bored. The Ghost and Molly McGee kept us excited. We were eager to see what would happen next with the ghost council in season 1 and the Chens in season 2. HOI felt like it was dragging on, though. We watched them do mundane tasks while just bugging us about that kiss for forever, at least that's what it felt like. It felt like "Hey look! We're begging you, ship them!" I really liked the premise of HOI, and I supported it and even defended it at the start, but it just couldn't keep my interest. The first episode for me was very interesting. But after that it progressed into the way I previously described. 15:48 also yeah I totally relate to MML ending. I still love that show; I like it more than HOI

The show isn't the best and definitely has plot issues, but I really do enjoy the show as a little comfort thing. I enjoy watching the characters and I found a lot of the jokes and bits pretty funny. Gonna be really sad if it gets cancelled...so much potential :(

I hope Hailey’s On It gets a season two.

Disney simply continues to screw with it viewers. So many great shows were dropped in the past, and now Molly is going too. Hailey though is one I won't grieve over. I struggled to watch it but gave up halfway through the sandcastle episode because I was just too bored.

I wish Disney would stop recycling the same female protagonist in there cartoons, the sweet, culpable, naive, innocent, and always cheerful. At least in anime they have a reason why those characters are always cheerful, tragic backstory.

I feel like a lot of the plots for episodes just felt like unoriginal and over used plots from Disney Chanel original shows. It’s not that the plots are bad it’s just that they’re not unique.

After that finale, I am certain Sanjay Singh is not what he seems. The fact that he just happened to show up around the same time as the dance where Hailey planned to confess to Scott just as the two were told by that popular app that they weren't a perfect fit for each other shouldn't be a huge coincidence. Also, they shouldn't have spent a tentpole episode on a Christmas special, they should've had it be about Hailey, Scott and Beta going to the future with the Professor to find whoever created the Chaos Bots and try to stop them in the present. And it turns out the creator is actually a future version of Sanjay. And one more thing, recently there were some HOI scripts for what might be/could've been a second season that were leaked, which opens right where the first season ended with Beta about to tell Scott that Hailey has feelings for him, but Beta can't because there's some kind of protocol in place that forces him to play disco music whenever he tries to reveal the kiss. If season 2 does happen, I'm suspecting a major plotpoint will be Beta trying to get around this.

i watch a few episodes and dont like it :/ but im sad for the fans of the show like i dont know if i watch a bad episode or something but its look like its writting by a old people 😭 the tik tok like girl need to left her phone for an escape game and its terrible because you know its a teen 😭

I really think that the time travel stuff could've been avoided. Like, Beta really is the worst part of the show, but if they REALLY wanted to keep him, maybe it could've been... Something else. Oh, what if Beta was actually a list item that went accidentally too well. Like, she wanted to build an actual android and she succeeded perfectly, but was half asleep while doing it so she can't recreate it without killing him to reverse engineering him. And the chaos bots are actually made by "Alpha". Hailey's first attempt to make an android that went wrong and she discarded it, thinking it was broken. So it ran away and started to build its own little minions just to mess with her. Alpha is trying to make Hailey fail, Beta is the voice of encouragement and Scott is the voice of fun. Because the time travel stuff is really a second thought in this show. I think it's relevant in, like, 3 episodes tops. And if it's not important it should be removed.

I stopped watching this series halfway, but the cliffhanger caught my interest.

And this is exactly why DuckTales was smart. They expected to be cancelled every season so they purposefully ended the episode in a way that would conclude the whole show. Buut if they got renewed, they had this little clip at the end that could segue into another. This just goes to show you, never get too comfortable with your show - you never know when the network might pull the plug. I do think a second season is off the table at this point. But I hope they at least get a special or something to wrap things up. Instead of… this!

Well I still believe we can get a season 2. Ratings showed it, there is no confirmation, and rewatching it on Disney+ will increase it's numbers especially if we all watch the lastest batch once it comes out. There is still hope if we all come together and watch it once it comes out and keep rewatching it. If we keep raising those numbers we can save the show. That is our only hope.

My feelings on the show are complicated. Like what was said here I agree the science-fiction angle was completely unneeded. I never liked Beta and I would’ve liked it better if Hailey solved the list items of her own choice. Having someone poking her the back constantly was irritating. A constant will they, won’t they can work, but I wished they had resolved it at the first season finale instead of dragging it out. Then, i would be more optimistic for second season stories. Like here I would like Hailey and Scott to realize they work better as friends.

I think it’ll get a Season 2 but it’ll probably only have 20 episodes (or less) to solve all the loose ends.

You make good points. The show wasn't all that in my opinion. The viewership wasn't that good and the show itself wasn't very entertaining. Everything seemed rushed and outta place. Hailey's personality was way too inconsistent throughout the show. The kiss plot was a drag and most of the characters were pretty boring so as much as I don't Ike shows being canned early, this is one of the few shows that I wouldn't mind not coming back. However, if it does somehow get another season, then they better fix EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING in order to make people watch and enjoy Hailey's On It more.

14:40 I had that very feeling with “Lilo & Stich: The Series” and “Glitch Techs”, two shows that, despite being jam packed with action, failed to pique my interest. I think the problem was that the dialogue and characters from both were just not funny or something.

Disney Channel did Molly Mcgee and The Owl House wrong when it came to their season 3 which was either reduced to a few episodes or didn't happen at all.

Love the Doc Brown quote at the end! Personally, I never got very into the show. It felt like a very heavy handed attempt at making another Phineas and Ferb but without the whimsical nature to it. Almost like the characters weren't really trying to do something interesting. Hailey as a passive character isn't so bad, but she needs to have skin in the game apart from "Stopping the Terminator". In fact, if there was an actual Terminator hunting her, it would be more interesting. The two kids being forced to be together for the sake of the plot never works out in the end. Either their dynamic doesn't work or they do it for reasons that have no logic. I much prefer your version of what the show could be about, having Hailey be forced to move by the end of the summer and deciding to do the items on her list as a way to remember her time in the one home she ever knew. I will say that I liked Hailey actually standing up for herself and saying that she'll make those choices because she wants to and not because someone else tells her to.

I gave the show a chance, but after a while, I just got bored. Like you said, Hailey just isn't a strong protagonist. She's too passive and uninteresting to lead her own show. During every episode I've seen, I thought to myself; "If this show is just going to be a worse version of Phineas And Ferb, why should I not instead watch Phineas And Ferb?".

I literally loves this show and if they end it on a cliff hanger ima cry 😭 also I think AC creates the robots, because the robots recognized him in the last episode but I could be wrong but Disney pleaseeeee please add a new season!

In my opinion. The show just has a boring plot and the cast is kinda mid. The show needs an entirely different premise. It doesn't even need a supernatural element. It really would've been better as a Lizzie Mcguire teen problem of the week show.

Honestly, I didn’t really enjoy the show. I feel like it’s a sign where Disney channel shows start to get more clip shows animated in flash with the chibi shorts and theme song takeovers right when it’s about to end. Just look at the ghost and Molly mcgee for example and now this show which had a few clip shows, takeovers and chibi tiny tales for I assume to get more hype up around the series.

I could take it or leave it. It was fun in concept, but execution was kind of lacking. Most of the time the list items were either too mundane or Hailey completed them way to easily or on an obvious technicality. And while the humor could be clever, a lot of the time it was way too cringe for my tastes. Honestly I’m more annoyed because the Time glitch shows giant robots as well as fire. I was hoping that the Professor and the Chaos bots constant tampering with time would play a part in the later half of the season.

5:21 The point of the whole show is that it is contrived. A list a young girl made shouldn't have world-ending stakes. Also the moral of the episode is not to take a personality quiz too seriously. I think Hailey's fake boyfriend being real is part of a trick and we have to wait until next season to figure out who he really is if we get one.

You know what is shocked the most is that the creators not wanted that Hailey finish all her list and they even wrote this episode for(in which i believe) proove it

Honestly, I think this story ending like this is one of the most interesting ways it could go out. the actual predicable ending is just... so much less interesting.

I think that at least some of the issues with the show could have been resolved in this episode was a mid season finale, not the season finale. At least then, the second half of the season could more meaningfully explore Hailey and Scott's relationship.

I think that the show is going to do a Gravity Falls-level twist: The source of the Chaos Bots was actually Hailey Banks herself. Call me crazy but the ChaosBots look suspiciously like crabs... Hailey IS the Co-Crab Queen...and past episodes have shown that while Hailey seems to struggle with future technology Scott on the other hand seems to find the tech really simple and user-friendly...perhaps because it was actually his designs. I'm starting to suspect that Scott is actually the true "Great Inventor" who positively impacts the future with Climate-control reversing technology and wasn't actually Hailey...And she doesn't like that truth. After all, The Professor never seemed to question why Scott knew about her, the list, and the future...Because she knows that Hailey isn't actually that important...Scott is. Heck, Haley's own father Kai even stated that she hit Scott with a flying Horseshoe 3 times in a row in the past...which may have led to head trauma that he is just now recovering from...unleashing bursts of surprising intelligence throughout the show that seemed to appear as a gag but were actually hints of Scott's latent potential. Nobody else can see the Time Glitches but Hailey, Beta, and Him. Scott might be more than the love interest now...He might be the key to everything...

tbh, this show could've had it's first season end on episode 20 with the cliffhanger. I feel this show has too much filler for a major serialized plot point.

I watched the first batch of episode on disney plus and got bored. It just doesn't do enough with the time travel plot in my opinion. And it rubbing the will they won't they in our faces just got obnoxious after a while.

Another reason why the show flopped was because Disney didn't release it early in other regions. And its not even on disney+ in many regions even though the show aired on Disney Channel in those countries.

I think the major turn off for the romance for a lot of people is that it felt forced from the start-If she doesn't kiss him, there's world ending consequences, so it has to happen. Not because Hailey truly wants it, but because she has to. And her choosing to be with Sanjay for the dance is presented as selfish because... she's going against the list and doing it for herself? I like your pitch much better for it.

So if ac created the chaos bots then what if he’s a kidnapper like he could kidnap one of Hailey’s closes friends which is Kristen and hold them hostage til she surrender but after fighting the chaos bots ac grabs Kristen and runs off with her while Hailey and Scott try to rescue her

One of the things I like about Monsters At Work is that each season ends in a way that even if it doesn't get another season at least it's a proper conclusion. I remember a lot of cartoons outside of United States that have their first season end on a cliffhanger like 50/50 Heroes. I think it's a bad idea to end your show's first season on a cliffhanger unless you know that you are getting renewed.

If only Hailey had a chance to confess her feelings💖to Scott back in either "Seas the Day" or "The A-maize-ing Maze" then things would have been different in this episode. But then again Scott share some part of the blame too because if he had notice Hailey's feelings💖for him then maybe he wouldn't had made the biggest mistake of his life.
