She did what she was voted in for. She enacted policies of her conservative voters. I wouldn't vote for her because I am not a conservative but not because she is a bad leader.

Merkel did not enact same sex marriage. She publicly said many times she is against it and was one of the main reasons, it got enacted so late even though most Germans had been in support of same sex marriage for a long time. So, instead you should say it got enacted *despite* Merkel, because more progressive parties kept pushing for it.

She is an example of how US media gets wrong with labeling and describing foreign countries political parties and personalities. Her present depiction wasn't always like the one portrayed by this video. Americans are quick to misjudge foreigners by their political "names". Here we have a woman who is from a "conservative party" which actually applies liberal views and laws to their people, and has a progressive agenda encouraging green energy economy. A woman who speaks Russian, but is one of the most important US ally. A woman who has "christian views", yet do not discriminate immigrants, nor sexual orientation. Perhaps people out of the US are not as polarized with labels, perhaps they are just pragmatic.

This is an honest opinion. Angela Markle is a graduate and a believer of Christian religion. Apart from her religious believe, she is a person who has morals and ethics as a person followed by strategy to rule a country. Not everyone can rule a country consistently year after year. It's fascinating that, when every other EU or NATO countries criticized for her immigrants policies in a crucial or difficult times like that she didn't loose her confidence or gave up or considered her faiths and believes with others instead that she kept her country's border open for the immigrants. This single act of kindness or humanity made her a leader who not just care for her own citizens but also for the others as well. How many leaders can deal or confront Putin today? I guess no one instead Angela Markle. Because Putin himself stated Markle as a powerful and influential leader who can make difference and has abilities to deal with difficulties professionally. Do you think any other world leaders has these qualities like Angela Markle?

In Germany in the general election the chancellor is not voted directly by the people but the Parliament is voted. Then a government is formed. The chancellor candidate is decided by each party in advance and is then voted by the parliament. Merkel did not enact same sex marriage. It was a vote by the Parliament and she voted against it. It is also a bit weird to say West Germany was with "the rest of Europe" when half of Europe was with UDSSR.
