I was thinking about Ragnarok and how formidable Thor will be. I think this may be the first time Kratos defeats a foe by making them an ally. Thor is much like Kratos in the sense that they were used as killing tools of their fathers. What if Kratos can reason with Thor and show him that he does not need to do the biding of Odin and can atone for his transgressions against the giants? Not sure how Thor would forgive Kratos for Modi and Magni, but I think there is something there. Great vid!

This theory is exactly what I thought as soon as I've seen Odin in the trailer. The only difference is that in my mind, the blood oath simply breaks when Odin dies, and we see it coming out of Atreus's mouth because it just "expired".

Absolutely LOVE this theory. It fits like a glove with everything we know about the characters so far, and most importantly it centers the story around the relationship before the mythology. It would also give Odin every opportunity to use what appears to be his true power: psychological warfare, cunning, and cruelty. I can easily imagine a young trickster god thinking he can protect his dad by outsmarting Odin and quickly getting in over his head. Can't wait to see if you've called it!

I believe when fighting Thor, Kratos reverts back to the gruesome anti-hero he was in GOW 3. In doing this he has failed Atreus. I compare this to an addict relapsing because Kratos has worked so hard to provide the example Frea would what him to have on Atreus. The Thor fight is such a burden on Kratos that he has to transform back into the monster he was before in the Greek pantheon. Also, there are signs to support this theory during the trailer. When Odin calls Kratos god killer. Atreus could view his father as a lier or monster. In steps Odin with the scheme that has been his from the beginning. Forcing Kratos to revert after battling with such a heavy foe. Forcing Atreus to leave his father after being scared or feeling betrayed by his father. In steps Odin. We see Kratos dropping his weapons leaving me to believe he has a realization. Which is where Kratos believes the only way to rid of the horrific beast he is, is to stop fighting. He-Kratos has lost hope a call back to the original GOWS. Then again it’s just a theory.

Great Video Kuba! It's a great idea/subversion of our expectations of Kratos going all 'godkiller' on the pantheon. Yes, we saw him kill Mag and Mod, but that was self defence, Odin uses Atreus' knowledge against him. "You saw the murals, you must choose." kinda situation, using emotions and a bond against kratos, such as the newest game.

I find your theory very well thought out and nicely detailed and your work to give us a clear perspective on what is the possible largest challenge Kratos will face is even more intriguing 😁 What is adding more spice to the whole mix is the presence of Odin as the gravedigger theory, the raven we saw at Pandora's palace beside Kratos, the corruption curse that Odin used first in all of the key Greek gods Kratos would meet and interact with and next to the Valkyries. With all of that put together the theory, you created by the viewer's comment shall be deemed worthy of consideration even by the developers. Have a beautiful day Kuba 🥳

The first GOW games were largely about him exerting his will on others in search of vengeance for those that have he feels have wronged him. GOW 2018 was largely about him reacting to those exerting their wills upon him. One of the most critical part of GOW 2018 was when Kratos kills Baldor and through this he exerts his will onto him and thus causes the cycle to continue.

I think Kratos looks upset because Thor just destroyed the house Fay and himself build therefor leading to him losing one of the last thing that reminds him of her. And I believe that's why he looked at the axe with that expression. Too add to this, this looks to be the building that they meet brok and sindri and maybe are looking for a new place to stay for a bit after they lose their home.

Yeah, I've been looking back at the Jotenheim mural again lately and thinking about the other possibilities. Now I have a new theory that goes along with Odin being the one in the Mural. What made me start to rethink things was the role of Thor in Ragnarok and what his family was like in Asgard. Then in the Asgard artwork, I noticed that the figure on the background with it's back turned to Thor and his family was Odin. This depiction of Odin to me says a lot of the Odinson family, a father who has his back turned coldly towards his sons family. Which made me think more of the deciphered encryption "Father, Death, Betrayal" I now believe this encryption is meant for Odin's family not Kratos and Atreus. Then after reminiscing on 2018 again with this in mind I think that we have the meaning behind "Father, and Death" with the "Father" being Odin then the "Death" being Magni and Modi because Odin was the one who originally sent them after Kratos and Atreus "surrender the all father demands it". Then that leaves us with "Betrayal" I think that part is going to be Thor finally seeing that his father is the one who's using Thor's family as death fauder and in Ragnarok Thor will eventually switch sides to ensure the survival of the rest of his family after testing if Kratos and Atreus can defeat Odin.

What if Kratos isn’t Atreus’s father. The part about blending blood sounds like a euphemism for sex. Atreus could be the son of Odin and Faye. That still would make him part giant and part god, but not Kratos’s son. Finding out that your only son isn’t your son after raising him is a pretty soul crushing experience I imagine. Could drive a god mad even. The All Father was spending the entire first game trying to capture Atreus if I remember. Like a father trying to get custody of his son. Kratos may have to kill his own son Atreus to kill Odin. Or he fears that if he kills Odin then Atreus will die due to the “blood oath” Family drama and disfunction is at the heart of all God of War storylines. I don’t see how this storyline would be any different.

In God of war (2018) Didn't we have Kratos constantly telling BOY about not trusting the word of a god and Atreus didn't listen. I think that either Atreus still doesn't learn and trusts the word of Odin or we could see Atreus learn and not trust Odin's word like how we saw him learn from (2018) when he told his father to "He's already beaten, not a threat". But speaking more on how Atreus kept having to get reminded, this could of been a subtle sign from the devs or foreshadowing for this where Atreus eventually does trust the words of Odin and whatever he promises. In the trailer we see Atreus say to Kratos, "Who's keeping you safe?!" Maybe he promised Odin not to hurt Kratos? And if Odin somehow kills Kratos (as on the picture on the wall) Maybe Atreus severs the blood oath and summons Jormungandr and begins ragnorak? We'll have to see, I'm very excited for the game and the story!
@shiningfaceofluzon5594

I predict that Mimir's time with Kratos/Atreus was to mislead the duo and all the exposition provided by Mimir is in accordance to Odin grand plan. This would be a well written backstab for plot considering how much we've bonded with Mimir on the adventure.
@Besno
@Besno Год назад
Kratos laying down his weapons wouldn't really seem him being defeated tbh, I think its just him in the end of the game being exhausted or done from his battle, but saying atreus could die is a high possibility, but we don't have enough information by just trailers in order for us to determine the outcome of the game.
@kashanahmad8014
@kashanahmad8014 Год назад
This is really interesting, for the mere fact that all of Kratos' struggle is to "End the cycle" of children killing their parents and Odin using the same strategy. Although I do believe that the efforts of Kratos and the "The cycle ends here" moment won't go to waste as Atreus will get some sense after doing something horrible and being the catalyst for Ragnarok. But if Kratos dies, it will be due to a mistake of Atreus.
@2005zhane
@2005zhane Год назад
The one thing that comes to mind for me, outside of the blood oath, is someone, if not Odin specifically, being 100% honest with Atreus in regards to what Kratos has fully done in the past, that it would make Atreus leave Kratos for good, and never return to him. I say this, given how Kratos reacted, to seeing a vision of himself literally beating the life out of Zeus, back when they were in Helheim. Because Kratos's reaction to seeing that, in front of Atreus, was something that momentarily stopped Kratos from moving forward. Shown when Kratos froze, while saying 'You saw', to Atreus. We don't know how much of his own past, Kratos has told Atreus between games. Just a small portion, from what little we saw towards the end of GoW 2018. Now what if Odin, or whomever, tells Atreus of Kratos's past in full, with Atreus going to Kratos to see if it is true, with Kratos confirming this? When Kratos states some of his history, in how vaguely sold his soul to Ares, and how he killed his father Zeus, we see Atreus, arguably, keeping his distance from Kratos. All while questioning if that brief story is what it means to be a God, and being somewhat sad, and distraught, in hearing those things from Kratos. But, if this time around, getting the full story from someone, while also getting that confirmation from Kratos, may be the very thing that draws Atreus away from Zeus, being far more paranoid that his own father might kill him, much like how Kratos killed, though somewhat unintentionally, his half sister, and countless other. I think that while losing his first wife a child did do a number on him. And losing Faye, did have it's own impact on Kratos as well. Though one could only imagine where Kratos's mind would be, if his own son no longer wanted to be around him after hearing all of that. The only other thing I could see having Kratos like this, is if he was tricked, again, into killing his second child.

I still think that the reason that Kratos look defeated in that scene is because he killed tyr (on accident) and split path with his son, all this happened because of odin and i think at the end of the game Atreus will take revenge on kratos, but because kratos doesn't want to kill his own son, he won't attack back, after Atreus almost killed Kratos, freya will stepped in and told them no son should killed their fathers, then Odin will show up and they three will fight Odin, after defeating Odin, Kratos and Atreus will actually split path, and now Kratos will live alone and Atreus will have his own story.

I like it, but the thing coming out of Atreus in the mural is most likely an expression of sadness or some other emotion. In the Facebook game prior to 2018’s release, you are rewarded with some photos of Atreus and Kratos. In some photos, Atreus has that same snake like design especially when he was in front of a dead deer. It’s called “A call from the wilds” if you’re interested in seeing them. So, I don’t necessarily agree that it’s a blood oath per se but rather Atreus expressing his emotions or something else like that

I think that Kratos in that scene realizes that if he wants to get his son back he will have to sacrify himself, thats why he looks so defeated, because he realizes that his journey finally ends but for a good will. It will sound like clishé but probably be something like what the ending scene of infinity war looked like.

+Kaptain Kuba So upon doing some research I have found that Ingraboda or Angraboda is known as the mother of monsters and has been known to resurrect the dead. So perhaps Angraboda will be a sort of mirrored character counterpart to Freya. In the first game they meet Freya and she resurrects the pig and Mimir…perhaps Kratos or maybe even Atreus will need to track down Ingraboda or Angraboda to resurrect the other. Hear me out Ingraboda or Angraboda (Angrboða) has been known to be able to resurrect herself even all that remained was her heart…so perhaps either Kratos giving into something Freya, Odin, or Thor tells him gives up and sacrifices himself to give Atreus a life…Orrr during a battle Atreus dies and Kratos feels all hope is lost because Freya won’t resurrect him but Mimir tells him that she and her son Freyr knew of a giant who is still alive who once was able to perform a miracle and bring someone back to life. So Kratos (I’m guessing is more likely because I doubt we will ever play as just Atreus at least in this game) will have to travel to find Freyr and then travel to find Ingraboda/Angraboda (Angrboða) to see if she will bring Atreus back to life.

I love this theory, it definitely fits with what we know about Odin’s character so far. I’ve been thinking for a while that we may not even fight Odin in the game, at least not until the very end. But he’ll remain a huge psychological threat throughout the game and whereas Thor will provide the big physical threat Odin will wage a psychological war on Kratos from the shadows. Honestly, GoW3 is one of my favourite games of all time but it’s about time the hardline GoW3 worshipping side of the fan base lets it go and accepts that the series has moved on. If they’re expecting/hoping for Ragnarok to just be a next gen GoW3 rehash where Kratos just steamrolls through anything and anyone in his path I fear they’re going to be sorely disappointed.
@kaymi94
@kaymi94 Год назад
stupid theory based on yours (super interesting btw, so thanks for the video and for keeping the hype going): one thing Atreus says in the trailer always stuck with me, and it's the exchange between Atreus and Kratos: "who's keeping *you* safe?" "I do not need you to protect me", and finally Atreus says "you sure about that?" -- and that always sounded eerie and weird to me. So what if the blood oath was for Odin to leave Kratos unharmed (although I'm sure Odin would easily find a way around that oath) while Atreus serves him, helping him defeat the odds to survive Ragnarok? Or something along those lines...
@umutcankarakas
@umutcankarakas Год назад
It is actually a pretty good theory. Let's think: -Atreus will somehow think that his father is dead (or about to die) and Odin makes an offer to him to save his father. (It is the only logical explanation I can make for the oath.) -Atreus forges an unbreakable oath to Odin. (Like Kratos did to Ares.) -Odin forces Atreus to fight Kratos. (Like Ares did to Kratos, to murder his only family.) -Kratos would try to avoid it as much as he can but in the end, he may hurt Atreus to stop him until he finds a way to break the oath. (Oh the flashbacks and traumas while they are fighting...) -Meanwhile, Thor continues to hunt Kratos to get revenge, which will make things much harder. I believe at some point, Kratos will be forced to "not hold back" anything. My only concern is, will Kratos somehow kill Atreus -and then the rest of the gods *again*?-

With Odin always wanting control, this theory doesn’t sound too off. I imagine Odin would do something more like this than fight Kratos head to head with no protection. However, gods have a way of coming back to life, and I could see Atreus dying and venturing to Helheim to retrieve him from his own daughter, Hel. Sounds cool I can’t wait to play this game.

Amazing theory. Even if this doesn't happen in the game, it could have been a way to go along the story. They should hire you to help on writting the argument for the game for real!

@FearOfGod These are the list of runic spells Odin claimed to have mastered after he sacrificed himself to himself within the branches of Yggdrasill, which no one else beside him know how to cast, here he's revealing his knowledge to an ambiguous figure named Loddfafnir. Spell 1 - "Help" Help win lawsuits and overcome sadness, and all kind of worries, practical in boosting morale in battle and in everyday life. Spell 2 - "Heal" Self-explanatory, no? Spell 3 - "Dull" Dull the blades of the enemies, therefore creating an advantage in defense. Spell 4 - "Unbind" A spell that prevents Odin from imprisonment or any kind of physical restrictions. Spell 5 - "Trajectory Manipulation" To change the path of arrows and javelins mid-air. Spell 6 - "Curse Deflection" A spell that prevents Odin from being cursed, while sending said curse back to the original caster, harming them. Spell 7 - "Extinguish" To put out fire, a spell Odin used to save victims of burning. Spell 8 - "Peacekeeper" To settle dispute and cool the tempers of both parties, used to settle legal affairs. Spell 9 - "Clear Wind" To calm sea storms, a spell used to save sailors. Spell 10 - "Witch Repel" Scatter their souls asunder, rendering them unable to find their mind, unable to find their skins. Spell 11 - "Invincibility" Enchant allies' shields and armors and prevents them from being harmed. Basically a defense buff. Spell 12 - "Corpse Raiser" Used to raise the deceased and hear them speak to the Father of the battled deads. Spell 13 - "Blessed Water" Sprinkle water on a new-born and he shall never die in battle or to violence. Spell 14 - "Head Count" Used to recount the names of all the gods and elves to humans who want it. Spell 15 - "Conjure" Conjure power for the gods and courage for the elves Spell 16 - "Persuasion" Apparently used to change the minds of women in order to win their favors, allowing himself some good times. Spell 17 - "There's no such thing as saying no" Extension of the last spell, prevent women from rejecting Odin. Spell 18 - Unknown A spell which Odin never reveals the details of, except he will never teach any girls nor women this spell. There are more than just these spells alone, but these are special because only Odin knows how to cast them.
