If I was a gambler I know which scenario I'd put my money on! There is a pattern in Africa ... which never changes!

Great book, with a lot of insight. The power you gain from understanding possible future scenarios is knowing how to act, what ideas to stand behind, and what to stand against. We shouldn't forget that our individual actions and decisions contribute to the future of SA.

I'm ashamed to admit I'm South African. Such a shame as the country is full of stunning potential but also extreme in beauty and cruelty (people and landscape). Where is the compassion, kindness and love? Nothing has changed. The comments here are revolting. Racism is rampant on all sides. Everyone for himself, no thought for future generations. What about climate change and global impacts? Everyone can make a difference with every discussion and action. It says something about your values, honesty, innovation, vulnerability, collaboration. When will we learn? Put the past behind and move towards a better future together.

In a word.... A Jungle... Here's the problem. A man wanted to be boss, but didn't realize what being Boss was all about. He gathered a gang & went about in a destructive manner, until he became Boss. I grew up in a poor family of 8 children and i hated my parents and anyone eles who had it better life then me and i blame everyone and everthing for being poor And i left home and school at 15years old And became a very angry young man who got into trouble with law and join a gang. Till one day i realise the only person who can change my life and make it better and only person who should be held accountable and responsible for it is my self. We all have the power to change this fucked up world we live in. Its not going to happen over night or weeks or even years to make it happen but it can happen if we want it to. And the 1st thing is on how we bring up our children and what we teach and show them in our own homes by our actions and behavior and respect we as parents show to wards other people from different race or a persn skin colour or a person religious beliefs or none religious beliefs or gender to them. 2nd state and local governments are held accountable and responsible for the laws in thier country . That all people are treated equal and intiled to injusticed or discrimination solely base on a person race skin colour or religion beliefs or gender or being poor should be intiled to the same legal representation in a cout of law as the person who has committed it and all people should be held accountable for their own actions and behavior to wards other people if proven in a cout of law no matter of race or the colour of their skin or religious beliefs or rich or poor. And everyperson should be payed a decent wag for a decent days work. And everyperson should have access to proper education no matter of race or the colour of their skin or religious beliefs or gender or being rich or poor. And any person who has comminted any crime againts a person must be held accountable and punish for it no matter who they are under a court of law. Because no one can help what colour there skin is or what race they are or gender they where born with. But we do have the power on how we treat or behave to other human beings unless we let other people take controll our way of thinking by puting hatered and blaming someone or something for all our trouble in our lives . And thier has been people doing that since the beginning of time in every country , race , religious beliefs. and who always suffers not the very weathy or the elilt who have the power . Just the common people and poor and uneducated do the fighting and die in all thier wars and get used to hurt or even murder innocent people for them to gain new lands and wealth or to get into power its the 1% of the worlds population who wants this bullshit to never change.

These bottom-up scenarios should be filtered against outside influences. What happens to SA if the world is drawn into a global conflict? What if SA happens to have a monopoly on some emerging essential raw material which dramatically increases the country's GDP? What if there is a conflict somewhere north of SA which results in a refugee crisis etc.

South Africa's Economic Growth will start to falter in 2019 with the constitutional passing of the Land Reparations Without Compensation which is another word for Governmental Eminent Domain. With the present farmers on the land being kicked out by the native South African's the first economy to crash will be the agricultural sector. in 2020 with the emigration of 8.5 to 9% being threatened by genocide, the whole SA economy will begin a massive fall begining by at least a -10% drop and much worse from 2021 and beyond. This is due to the policies being set by the EFF and the ANC for this economic and political catastrophe. South Africa's destiny is to be a ramshackled mess for the next 1000 years onward from 2020.

Well, it sounds like this guy has just about touched every single scenario that can happen in South Africa, so how can he be wrong. Or is this a way to write a novel in such a way that you will satisfy all your readers irrespective of how the book concludes, because it will end the way they want it to end. Genius! This Dr . Frans Cronje talks in circles and difficult to understand what his message really is. He gives too many possibilities whilst naming his book " what will happen in 2030" . Any fool that buys this book can use his/her own logic with his/her own possibilities..

The problem with this scenario planning narrative is the assumption or notion that the resolution of problems associated with apartheid, poverty and inequality are obvious and self evident. My view is (based on what happens in other countries), the country will evolve and survive side-by-side all its challenges. With the emergence of the younger generations and the passing of the older generations, the nature of the challenges will also mutate and people will come to accept the situation that emerge (my guess is much higher levels of poverty and equality) as pert of a normal society - unfortunately.

Ok, so Frans Cronje starts his thesis statement by saying: "The REAL crisis is that the standard of living overall has been improved and created a certain expectation to be met by the ruling party, the slump in economy has made that target hard to be met". Well then why isnt the reasons for why the economy tanked in teh first place the first order of discussion and real problem?
