This is the exact video I was looking for. We replaced the windows in our house. I really didn't know what I was going to do with our new sliding doors. I've been searching for options. RU-vid finally showed me your video. Now I'm so excited to show my husband this video! I love that I actually have options. I really like how this video was made. It's not to slow or fast and focusses on one subject. Thank you
Em & Terry: We are so glad that you liked the video. When I first began to work with Blind Appeal 8 years ago, I was amazed at all the options for sliders! Thank you for the compliment and we are glad you found it useful! I will pass along your kind words to Chris!
Beautiful sliding panels are available at IKEA..very inexpensive…under $20 a panel, and I put the hardware to corner, so the entire deck is visible…around $150 for the whole project!
When I was a kid those drapes with what I believe was some sort of latex rubber as a liner were still common.....Those things really blocked out the light and insulated well too.
I had verticals on my sliding glass doors when I first moved into my condo....awful, cheap looking, then I went eith curtains....just as bad, they looked heavy and dated, then I went with custom made full length shutters, they were expensive, but worth it,best investment ever, timeless and elegant, they transformed the room.
There is actually a third option for plantation shutters, and that is to extend the top railing on either side of the doors to allow the shutters to clear all the glass areas. I installed that in my home, an option the installer didn't even know about....
Hi, ditto 10, what you did in your home sounds like a very interesting and ingenious design. Would you mind explaining a little bit, what you meant by “…extend the top railing on either side of the doors to allow the shutters to clear all the glass areas…”. 🤔🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for this video. We are building a new home and our back door aka tug away door is 23 feet. I had no idea what to do but the shade on the outside of the Lanai will work perfectly for us😊
I have the banded shades but drapes on the side for show. I do want to say that we're in the Midwest and one thing we have to do is have ventilation at night or we end up with condensation on our double paned windows. That means opening up window coverings at night and running the ceiling fans on low.
We have a sliding glass door bay windows bump out I did a bay window curtain rod with curtains but I love the idea of custom plantation blinds… I will consider that in the future
What about " smart drapes" - the combination curtains and vertical blind mash up. Convinient to walk right through and it gives variability of light filtration / privacy adjustment
vertical slats are horrible, I just took mine down, they were material and are now in the city dump. I have lined bamboo with bronze grommets, and a bronze curtain rod, I can close for pure privacy, or open side or center mass, and are great for insulation. I have a modern rustic look going on in my home. I also had wooden shutters in my dinning room, they are at the city dump as well, cleaning them are very time consuming.
Thank you so much for this download you did almost think you are advertising the company that has its logo on your shirt wouldn't you very smart nonetheless
Loved this video, clear and to the point, very pleasant presenter. I didn't know there were so many types of (very cool) blinds. What states do you work out of? Do you have free estimates? Thanks.
Excellent video, thank you. For the sliding panels, in the video it looks like 2.5’ is wasted on the right side (meaning is covered and not openable), is this the minimum that can be wasted for a 12’ wide covering? Can that part be overlapping a wall to the side of the sliding doors so it doesn’t block the windows? Is the track deeper on the far right to stack the panels? And finally, does anyone make a control integrated to Google assistant? Thanks and great video.
What do you call the drapes and track system in your video starting at 1:28? How does the one panel drapery slide past the two inner support brackets? It must work differently than grommet draperies cuz with those, you need a separate drape panel between each support bracket.
There are a handful of options for hanging drapers. Overall, they fall in the categories of curtain rods or traverse systems. The one you see in the video is a decorative traverse, meaning the operating pieces are looped inside the pole so it glides right across. Hope this helps.
Need something better for apartment complexes that is cost effective besides vertical blinds, which break constantly because most people do not know how to operate them properly with out breaking them.
Yes, if you put a bracket in the middle of the rod, then you would have to have a split draw drape, unless it’s a traverse rod. Unless, you get a rod that is substantial enough to not bow without a middle bracket. Hope this helps!
Thank you for your critique! We are a professional window treatment company, and true, not a professional video company. I will do my best to proofread and produce informative content. I appreciate the pointers and am learning as I go.
I am with you - those door handles are an issue I don't see as how to deal with for french doors. Verticals work, but what else can you do other than drapes?
@@robinq5511 I like the doors with the blinds between the glass. Anderson makes them. Unfortunately, in my case, the contractor didn't listen to my wish to have them on the addition. The type he installed doesn't have them. I could have ordered them when I had custom-sized replacements made for another room, but since the two doors are separated by about 20 feet, it would have looked weird. Someone needs to make blinds that fit over the glass and cover only the glass, not the entire door. Betting some brilliant person could come up with an after-market install. Maybe 1/2" inch blinds, enclosed in glass that mounts over the door glass on the room side. No doubt it could be made so there is no distortion in the view. Room darkening blinds would be nice.
@@cappyfann750 My newest set of French Doors has the inside blind option - wish I had done it on the others too. Custom shades might work IF I can find a contractor...since you have to avoid the door handles. Drapes are too expensive especially when you also have cats!
I did that but it cost over $5,000.00 in 2018. I got honeycomb shades between the glass. It has easy access to remove blinds. Plus you can take out grills if you want. It has 3 panes of glass. I love this door in my great room. I even got the screens French doors. Very heavy, well built door. However 3 years later, Pella quit offering this same door that I wanted for my master bedroom which was nearby the first door. I did not get the new style because it would not match in many ways. My favorite window treatment is plantation shutters- I have had them for 20 years and they are still in style.
I use a Roman shade from Hunter Douglas. On each side of the doors I hung an antique swing rod with open panel. I hate to see an empty rod strung across the empty space of the doors.
I had no idea vertical honeycomb existed, and motorized no less. Oh, and whoever invented regular vertical blinds must be in hell right now, why do places insist on using these terrible things.
I really dislike vertical slates. They are so incredibly ugly and belong in an office not a house. In my opinion they are tacky in a house. They are also very easily damaged if you have animals who like to look out windows. I do like honeycomb shades. Great in the winter for keeping the heat in. I like the vertical honey comb blinds. I did know they existed. I love plantation shutters but they wouldn’t suit the condo I’m in.
Not on a sliding glass door though. If the door opens and closes vertically, putting a horizontal roller shade on it just doesn’t make sense. Having to raise it up and down just to go outside and then not be able to lower it once outside makes no sense. I do like the solar shades though.
