Another thing is that not all Somalis are good at businesses and not all Somalis are against or uninterested holding office jobs. That is fundamentally unfounded misconception . But the main reason you see many somali guys in the entpreneural sector but not in government offices like places in Addis has something to do with political and historical and accidental issues. Traditionally, Somali people and many other ethnic groups like Harari, Silte and Gurages in Ethiopia and particularly muslims, were shoutout and discriminated against holding any government job by the past successive ethiopian regimes in the last 80 years or so due their religion and unwilling to compromise their culture, basic rights and forcefully assimilate into oppressive rulers and their government promoted and designed dominant culture. So Somalis did away with it and became self-reliant by doing small business and involving an independent private sector activities like selling goods, rearing livestock and doing farming and they never look back since. What's more, Somali ladies became even more savvy entrepreneurs and business minded in the cultural process than the guys so it is not uncommon to see Somali lady that runs and supervises big business and employs guys as her subordinates.

You never see them sitting down watching TV whenever you go to their shop.. I know there are Somalians here, but one hardly gets to see them than we see Ethiopians.. It could be this goes according to the area.. As someone who has been involved in business, sadly, my experience is that employing blacks like me (not family), they don't seem to be respectful like when they are employed by whites or other foreigner business people.. pretty girl, as a Somali man and as a Muslim we are allowed by our religion to marry a maximum of 4 women also with a non-Muslim woman but a Muslim woman is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim man only if he converts to the Muslim religion because the mother is usually the biggest bas of the upbringing of children and their mother tongue and the education of the religion. For us it is usually important respect for our wife and our parents. Man is his responsibility to pay the rent, grocery money school costs for the children and other bills, as a woman even work she usually buys clothes with her own money think that she needs or something for the children or for home, man should absolutely not take into account her money because with us there is no system 50 50 is absolutely a shame in our culture.
I am a Christian man who was born in the faith, but I don't attend any church any longer because I love to be open, and to understand what other human beings experience and believe dearly.. Hi ladies, Somali man here. 99.9% of Somalis are Muslims, therefore bound by Islamic law when it comes to marriage. Basically, women are not allowed to marry a man who is not a Muslim - so if non Somali man wants to marry a Somali women, they would have to accept Islam, as for the men, we are allowed to marry outside of Islam, but she must be Orthodox Christian or Orthodox Jews women, even then she must agree to raise our offspring as Muslims - it would be ideal if she converts to Islam but it is not must, as long as she remains true Chrisian or Jews women. We cannot marry etheist or any women who does not beleive in the ones of God. Men are allowed to marry up to 4 wives, as long as they're financially capable and would treat them equaly. Which means, if i buy one a house, i must also buy the other one an equal asset, other than that, there is no restrictions in marriage, in culture or race, personally I am married to non Somali Kenyan women and there is no issue with that. Maybe my next wife will be Ethiopian, Rwandese, Tanzanian or even American who knows 😂 As for working in office, there are people who like the comfort of assured income from salary, but most of us prefer doing business, personally, even if I am offered a salary of 2 million KES a month for 8 hours a day/5 days a week shift, I wouldn't take it, I would probably ask them to give the work to my firm as contract, so I would much rather prefer hustling on my own, and maybe make 500K one month and 2 million the next month, or even go negative the following month from my own business. It bothers me a lot to be on fixed income, I beleive I can use my time wisely and more efficiently when I am working on my businesses. Yes, most of us do have college degrees, there are some with multiple pHDs yet prefer working on their own consulting firms and hustle instead working for governments or multi national corporations. I hope this will demystify Somali culture a bit.

It is also the African/West Asia and Eurasian way to some extent, to cover the hair, even for men. I am not too sure about the historical reasons, but in the equatorial and north Africa, it could be the sun.. As a matter of fact if you'd see an old film of English football matches, basically every person in the stadium is wearing a hat of some sort, an Ayers cap mainly (haha)..
