@@peeniewalli First off, the yield of the warhead can be dialed up or down. So it can be set for a lower yield than 1.2Mt. A ground burst will generally do less damage over a smaller area to objects on the surface but will generate a lot more fallout. Probably targeting a city it'd be an airburst of some optimal height to do the most destruction to objects on the surface unless there were also underground bunkers that they were trying to destroy. In London, you'd probably have several air bursts and ground bursts.

On the old civil defense/MOD cold war listings, yes. Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool city & airport, Manchester City & airport, Hull, Grimsby, Crewe, Newcastle city/Gateshead/South Shields & airport, Carlisle, Huddersfield, York and Sunderland and that's before any army/RAF facilities are factored in. No part of the UK would be unscathed, including Northern Ireland with Belfast and Armagh considered likely targets. South east England would be a smoldering desert, with multiple weapons used on London, and multiple targets stretching from the Kent coast all the way across to Plymouth in the SW. Southampton and Portsmouth gone. Reading, Oxford, Bristol, Dover, and Folkstone are all gone. Best to die in the first few seconds IMO.

@trancewinston1027

At 1.07 this video states ‘in roughly a 15km radius those who survive the heat and shockwave would be hit by bursts of radiation’. Incorrect. The B-83 warhead (1.2MT) in a ground burst detonation, radiation radius is 2.56km. If one is close enough to the radiation radius one is so close to the fireball that there is no way one would survive anyway. So no, people that survive the heat and shockwave would not ‘be hit by bursts of radiation’. In any case there are not any multiple bursts of radiation. Radiation is released once, in the instant of the detonation only. The image of the bomb in this video dropped on London, shows a Nukemap photo of Leeds anyway. So even the imagery in the video doesn’t match the description. Guys, have a look at Nukemap yourself and if you are going to make these videos at least use the actual data from Nukemap correctly.

You're really not though. It would not be just this one warhead. Think of where you are. I'm in hayes, directly between Heathrow and RAF northolt. Typical targets have always been cities, seats of government, military, infrastructure (power/communication/transport etc) and industry. We've got all that here. Not forgetting this warhead could hit off centre, to the west of London, or a bigger warhead be used. I grew up through the cold war first time around and we knew then we were fucked here. These days the focus is more on lower (relatively) yeild warheads, but with better precision. That said I wouldn't trust that in practice.

To put your anxiety levels up. After taking in the devastating reults of a B-83 bomb, consider this. The B-83 has the power of 1.2 megatons of TNT. The Russian Tsar Bomba which was detonated in 1961 had a yield of 50 megatons. That hitting London would mean total anihalation of the City and far out suburbs. And by the way the Russians had in production a bomb of 100 megatons but scaled it back to 50 megatons That was way back over sixty years ago We wonder what they are capable of producing now.

The focus is on smaller but more accurate weapons these days by all accounts and the Russians do appear to have the edge. They just said that the fireball radius is 2km and then they said croydon would be engulfed so they not realise croydon is at least 12km from central ? pretty sure croydon would be intact but dying from radiation if they only used one bomb , most likely they would use multiple nukes on london due to its size as if they only used 1 there would still be millions of survivors

They would use it not to wipe us out but to destroy us. One nuke would cripple the whole country for years. If hit anywhere in London would set us back 30 years. Most of our country's profits are in the capital. So after the nuke had hit they would see that there mission is done. As we would be focusing to much on trying to build ourselevs back up from the ashes then to fight. @@noelht1 do you know how big 20km is ? I really doubt there would be a destructive radius of 20km this is what I mean when figures become exaggerated, maybe that would be true if they used a mega nuke like I mention such as a tsar bomba or something in that category but most countries arsenals consist of average / small nukes known as tactical nukes , look at Hiroshima and Nagasaki they were bombed about 40% of their populations were destroyed but not all the radius of destruction would probably be around 5-6 km average nukes just simply aren’t that big that’s why countries can be seen stockpiling thousands of them such as us and Russia , technically they could use a mega nuke but they might aswell save them as a last resort because they are hard to make and that could be used as a deterrent even in nuclear war

@@connorhewson4405 blast radius. Not fireball. We are talking about weapons of a much larger scale than Hiroshima
