@ikannunaplays
@ikannunaplays Год назад
Think of it more of like looking through a cloud llit by the city lights vs being in a light polluted area or not. Example, I live near the beach in a heavily populated area. Now when I look at the sky over the city I can't see anything except the brightest stars. But If I look out to the beach over the ocean where there are no lights I can see everything. Now If I move far from the beach to the otherside of the city and try to see the stars over the beach looking through the sky over the city then it will be hard to spot anything. So, if you're on the mountains where there isn't light pollution then your target also should be over an area without light pollution. So, for you straight up is the best area as there is nothing to prevent you from seeing

Think it was a Bortle 2 zone, something that has always a bucket list thing for me, to be somewhere as dark as it was. I don't think I will ever forget it. I still remember when me and my buddy laid on the sand on the beach and closed our eyes to let them adjust, only to open them and be able to see what felt like the whole universe. Being able to see Andromeda with my own eyes was an experience I cant even put into words. If you ever get a chance to be somewhere this dark, take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the stars.

I from NYC, born and raised in Greenwich village and the only time I got to see all the stars was at the Hayden planetarium when I was a kid. Joined the Marine Corps in 1987 and in 1989, was stationed at 29 Palms California. First time I got to stand in the Mojave and see the night sky was breath taking. Not to take anything away from the good people and the technology of the Hayden planetarium but there’s just no way to capture the realty. Great video , great memory ! Thanks for it ! 🤙🏻👊🏻

Omg, I need to see that for two reasons. One: I'm obsessed with astronomy. Two: I have always wanted to see so many stars. Also was this in the northern or southern hemisphere, in summer or winter?

Northern Hemisphere, you can very easily recognize Perseus, Taurus and Andromeda which are all northern constellations. As for time it depends. Judging from the position of the Pleiades and Ahlpa Persei clusters, this is looking eastward and the constellations shown are rising. If this takes place just after sunset, then its in October. If its just before dawn, then its June/July, so the range would be roughly June to October

My wife and l were camping up north in Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada and as we looked up at the many, many stars, she commented on a cloud "obscuring" part of the sky. Turns out l had to tell her she was seeing the Milky Way for the first time. It blew get mind! Zero light pollution for the first time for her.

Use a light pollution map to find somewhere close that’s dark, anything blue you might see the Milky Way (right time of year) but I’d recommend purple or black areas

When I was in the army doing training to be a truck driver. One of the classes was at night to train on what's called blackout driving. No lights and all you have on is night vision goggle. I remember when I put it on and looked up at the night sky the whole sky was covered in glitter! It was the most amazing sight and I realized how little of the stars we see in the night sky. It was truly breathtaking

I miss this. It pisses me off that we can’t see the stars we need a night around the world ware we turn off the lights at night in all buildings and outside and make it a natural night out for everyone. Because I think people have lost all contacts with reality in this world and those who can see how small we truly are care more about helping others then anyone else I’ve ever met
