Is it time for the big tobacco treatment? Imagine if we went after big oil for the damage that they have done. 🤤
@puckrocker854
@puckrocker854 13 дней назад
Tobacco marketed a luxury item that offered no benefit to human life. Fossil fuels have allowed human existence to thrive and for people to live comfortably for decades. Your statement sums up to this: This is not about the environment. This is about money.
@dkdisme
@dkdisme 13 дней назад
@@puckrocker854 we are talking about major corporations with an unbridled profit motive selling their harmful products in a disgustingly irresponsible way. Oil companies had a responsibility to acknowledge the hazards of their products and mitigate them whenever possible. Instead they denied, denied, denied as well as sabotage other products that could have further mitigated the damage. Who do you think killed the electric car in the '80s? No, corporations must be held responsible for damaging people for the sake of making money. They knew. They lied. They schemed. They need to pay.
@puckrocker854

@dkdisme Oil companies have also met, if not exceeded, every EPA standard set forth. Even as those standards got more and more stringent. Same with the manufacturers of automobiles, airplanes, farming equipment, cargo shipping machinery (trucks, ships, trains, etc.) "These are our standards, these standards will save the environment" **all industries meet those standards** "We now have new standards because the old standards we created did not force you out of busin-- I mean are not saving the environment. Meet the new standards". Wash. Rinse. Repeat. And oil companies did not "kill the electric car" in the 80s. The technology wasn't there. It still isn't there. It's gotten closer, but it's not there. You can still refuel a vehicle with an internal combustion engine faster than you can recharge an EV. You can still drive further on a full tank of gas than you can drive on a full battery. Our power grid cannot handle a full switch over to EVs nationwide. Furthermore, most working class people can't afford this new technology. And this is just the impact on everyday commuters. What about shipping? Farming? How are these companies supposed to transition to electric fleets and equipment? How about air travel and shipping? Are you ready to get 30,000 feet in the air on a plane powered by the sun? Or even be ok with one flying over your house? The impacts of an all "green" transition spread further than you've clearly cared to realize. The cost to do so far outweighs the total value of every oil company on Earth, so even if you liquidated all of them into oblivion, you still wouldn't be able to pay for it all. All civilization would take a huge step back in standards of living. This "green" push has nothing to do with the environment. It has everything to do with upending the economy and seizing control over people.

@@puckrocker854 if you believe that oil and other industrial companies religiously adhere to EPA and other government guidelines and regulations, I have a bridge in the Sahara to sell you. As big tobacco and big oil have historically shown, they do their best to hide all indications that their products are dangerous. Corporations invest massive money in legal battles to defeat regulations that inconvenience them. The EV1 was a popular electric vehicle in the 1980s until GM, under the influence of other industrial organizations, withdrew it from the market and destroyed all existing units. If you doubt me, the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car" will set you straight. The technology is ready and is growing by leaps and bounds. Conspiracy theories and FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) perveyance do not change reality.
@dkdisme
@dkdisme 13 дней назад
@@puckrocker854 do you know the origin of the "wash - rinse - repeat" admonition on shampoo bottles? It is a marketing gimmick designed to increase usage of the product. They are telling you to use their product twice every time you wash your hair. Once would be sufficient. It's a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

@SandraWade666 LOL. That's a funny way of avoiding answering the question. One in particular has enabled 'all-time' 'record-breaking' 'higher-than-ever-before' levels of drilling and extraction. The fact that you're evading pretty much demonstrates that you know which one that is. He's even bragged about it in speeches. It's a shame the children of the world will be the ones suffering for it, to a greater and greater degree, each year going forward.

@LunaLilyEnnui

There are actually areas that are combatting the changes with digging crescent shaped ditches that gather water and planting greenery throughout their cities that reversed the average temperature of the area that had been gaining like it is everywhere. This is fixable, but we all have to fix it. Putting eco terrorists that knowingly harmed the planet in responsibility for it by making them pay and be accountable is part of but not the whole process.

Oil is a naturally produced material. It inherently exists in the environment. Getting oil from the planet is far less harmful than mining for the minerals that make up electric vehicle batteries. Also, try going a week without using a product not made from oil. You’d have to limit yourself to only rock, metal and wood. Good luck!

There are a lot of alternatives to petroleum, it’s not necessary for plastic, it is not the only fuel, and… we both know that the amount that they’re drilling is not out of necessity. Like come on, be mad at the folks who knowingly ruined our environment. These corporations are eco terrorists that have admitted to knowingly causing climate change, the amount of damage petroleum industry makes by being grody is intense as is Nestle and other nefarious companies that care about nothing else than profit. Tolerance of the intolerant only begets more intolerance.

You probably live anywhere but the coast....c'mon down to The Gulf of Mexico and allow us to show you what once was and will never be. The hurricanes have intensified, tidal flooding is now a morning news litany of road flooding and property damage. Our sea level rise is much faster than other shorelines. And because oil companies want a straight shot from rigs to refineries up the Mississippi, they plowed under 100s of 1000s of marsh wetlands that have protected our people and the abundant seafood that sustained us. Marshlands are flood mitigation by nature, and leaders were paid enough to betray us and future generation. So, sit up in Wisconsin or Montana or even Biloxi and be the clueless entitled fool. I'm heading to higher ground. ANd I will bring 1000s more-hope you like poor white trash moving real close cuz we are coming!
