Hello hello hello welcome back!!!
I am back (after a solid 7 months) with another summer camp video weowwww!!! I made this video for all the lovely humans out there who are heading to summer camp for the first time or 50th, as well as everyone who is interested in going to a summer camp but needs a little more convincing. Well, if you watch this video and my CCUSA Summer Camp Counsellor Video from 2017 along with the 1000000 other camp videos on the inter web, I am almost positive that you'll be craving the camp adventure too!
I spoke about a few things that a wish I knew before heading to camp last year and a few little things that can really influence your camp experience for the better!

Would you be willing share any camp packing and organization tips? (Such as how you organized your backpack if you had one)

of course, i took a suitcase with me, its 100000x easier in my opinion. This year I'm only taking 1 jumper over with me (you'll most likely buy them there + you'll receive one from your camp), take lots of sporty clothes and tops and comfy shorts you can wear during the day. Also the kids and counsellors dress up a lil bit in the evening, like nice shorts and a casual but cute top and maybe a denim jacket in August when nights are a bit chilly. Don't forget a really light rainjacket (lifesaver) and take shoes that you don't mind getting really dirty and muddy. Also, buying toiletries over there is a handy tip. I'll film another video about this soon bc I have so many things that I could say here and its turning into an essay hahah

So helpful! There are heaps of videos that seem to repeat answers, but you had a lot of new ones that I hadn’t heard. And it’s so helpful hearing opinions from fellow aussies ☺️ I’m hoping to go in 2020 - I have to finish uni - but until then I’m stalking every camp video I can find! Live vicariously, right? 😂

oh man, this video makes me want to go back to camp again!! worked at one in PA last summer, best time of my life!! maybe I’ll take a semester off uni and go to a different one next year. hope you have an incredible summer lovely! 💕

I worked to the camp that is the sister camp to trail’s end(2018). I had a horrible experience and I was on the leadership team. But this year (2019) I’m working at a whole new camp in New York. And I’m flipping excited about it.

You had so many staff members! My camp i work at is really small.... We have 11 staff total... We usually have about 40 to 50 campers each week

Iv just came across your channel and I love it already and only seen this video! I live in England and really want to become a summer counsellor in America but I don’t know how to get into it. Do u have any tips or how did you get into it?

Daisy B hey just thought I would reply in case she didn’t see this! I’m going to be a counsellor this summer, there are a bunch of companies you can go with so you just google them, find the website and start the application! I’m going with Americamp, there’s also Camp America, CC USA etc☺️

Hey lovely! aww thankyou so much :) I recommend CCUSA, they are a fantastic agency! I'm from Aus and they are SO helpful and fantastic every step of the way, I don't imagine they would be very different in the UK. Have a look at the CCUSA website and their Insta, also watch heaps of camp vids on YT bc they really give you a great insight into what camp is like (but remember that people only share highlight reels) ! I'm going to Trails End this year as a gymnastics instructor also, what were you pros and cons in this role at camp?

Hey Angela, yay I'm so excited for you. Being at gymnastics is great as you get the chance to meet and work with all the campers and a wider range of counselors who'll you'll become friends with. Cons I'd say it gets super hot in the gym for like 5 hours a day so always take a waterbottle and if you can, one of those portable handheld fans. But overall it's quite chill, I'm pretty sure the head of gymnastics has changed since I was there so hopefully you'll have great coworkers too! I hope you have a great summer, let me know how you go :)

I’m going to trails end this summer to work in photography, is there anything I should be prepared for/advice? I’m going alone so I’m a bit nervous !

yay so excited for you, one of my friend's I made there was photography staff and now she's a group leader at TEC, she LOVED working in photography bc you get to go around the camp on your own schedule all day and you get to meet literally everyone from counselors and campers, plus the kids at TEC really love the cameras hahaa

ah i just saw this! Not all camps have the same rules but both camps that I have worked at allowed GoPro's out whenever :))

Can I ask about travel before/ after? I'm looking to go to camp through CCUSA in 2022. Did you do the whole 30 days before and after? How did you plan for that?

hey yay thats so exciting!! I usually go a week or 2 before camp then stay the full 30 days after. For travel after camp I have travelled solo so I literally booked stuff on the spot and other years I planned post-camp travel with the friends that I made at camp which I highly recommend. If you're worried about that, you can always book a hostel spot just incase then cancel it when you make plans at camp :)

Thanks so much for replying! I got placed for next year I'm very excited. This might be way too personal so you don't have to answer, but how much money did you save to be able to travel before/ after camp? I'm looking to go 2/3 weeks before then so almost the whole 30 days afterwards and I have no idea how much I'll need!

@@TheGeorgiaMarie93 yay congrats!! Where have you been placed at? I would take a few grand over to be safe. It really depends how you'll travel, e.g. road trip/hostels compared to hotels. I'm so excited for you. You'll also make money at camp that you can spend on post-camp travel

hey! It depends on your camp and your role, in most cases you'll be in a cabin with your co-counselors and campers. If you have a higher-up role/support staff role at camp you'll be in a cabin with other management/support staff

Heii I am from Austria and i have planed to go to a camp in the USA as we’ll probably 2020 cause then I am done with school. Do u think they would take not a native speaker. I mean I am not that bad but I have definitely a lot to learn

Gina Hörmedinger hey! Absolutely, camps are open to anyone and everyone. When you apply through an agency such as CCUSA, you will rate how well your English is and camps will see that on your application and you’ll be placed at a camp with a job that is suited for you. ☺️ Good luck!

it wasn't the right camp for me. I didn't agree with certain processes and management but overall its still a great camp with great campers and memories to be made

@@chloemorton4721 yeah for sure. I know of girls who returned in 2019 and said it was much better than in 2017 so thats a good thing too! thats so exciting! What role have they offered you?

What's the average age of camp counselors? What do you think is the best age to go?

It depends on the camp and they generally hire based on there major age groups for counselors. The two camps that I’ve been to have been avg 18-28 and I’d say that’s the majority of camps. Girl/Boy scout camps are usually on the 18-21 side. However, age doesn’t matter at camps, I have friends 18 and 30 and we all get along equally ☺️

all bunks are by gender. Co-ed camps will have a boys side of camp and a girls side of camp :)

At any point are you allowed to leave the campground if you're a counselor?

Yes most definitely! Both camps that I have worked at allowed us to leave camp when we were “off duty” which is usually after 9:30pm + on days off ☺️

yeah absolutely! You'll just need to apply through an agency such as CCUSA and you can get a visa to work in the USA :)

@@emilypamio8148 In Croatia in CCUSA you need to be student to go. Now I am not, so I think is not possible with CCUSA get visa for camp coun... :(

i went through CCUSA - they are the best, they have the lowest fees + pay the most and are SUPER helpful through the whole process! :)

they sure are, in Australia this is the case and I'm sure it would be the same in other countries too. Most people from both camp's that I have been to applied through CCUSA. @@jaasonayre3659
