What you need to know about Bryn Shander in Rime of the Frostmaiden 

Bryn Shander is also a location in Storm King's Thunder and they give more options for shops, inns, and other places in town, and a more complete town map.

For the speaker I am thinking she had a younger sibling, someone innocent and good, liked by everyone. Basically one of the people she leads for, a major reason why she even continues to be the speaker. She denied the sacrifices to Auril always thinking of her, imagining if she was picked, how many other innocent sisters would die every month. But then one day her sister was caught out of town by a blizzard. Her body was found 2 days later, frozen, her leg broken, she couldn't walk and froze to death. This broke the speaker's spirit, she realized Auril's power and gave in to the demands of the sacrifice, if the blizzards could be prevented and that would save lives no one would have to lose their sisters anymore. This gives her a deep story, and a lawful good motivation for sacrifices. Even the strongest succumb to the Everlasting Rime. I also want to make sure the players witness a blizzard forming and kind of sparing the town, not blowing through it, showing that Auril is indeed protecting the Ten-Towns who sacrifice for her. EDIT: For the sheriff, I am thinking Kane on the 1st season of The 100 TV show. A fierce leader, much harsher than the speaker, the guy who gets the job done, but he can't help and see the speaker as weak sometimes, as she is too noble and is not willing to do what's hard in these harsh times. They get along better now when she decided to begin sacrificing, something he wanted to do long before. He is not evil, just pragmatic and tough.

thanks for making these videos, I'm going to run this adventure in a few weeks once the party finishes lost mines....but because we're adding a new player that's new to the game, they're all making new characters...so not skipping chapter 1 which I'm actually happy about, I like the idea of spending a chapter on the characters establishing themselves in the region

Duvessa Shane (and Vaelish Gant) are references to the Legacy of the Crystal Shard adventure from 4e.

This is where I started my party at. My first time DM'ing a group with experience (in fact 2 of the players DM games I've been in). I choose for it's central location, as only 1 of 4 characters are from Icewind Dale and honestly Ol' Bitey :)

Thanks for all your videos! I've been following along for a while now but thought I should leave a comment on the first one of yours that I watched. Prepping the Ten Towns was overwhelming but I appreciated that you gathered all the info on Bryn Shander from other adventures and modules too. It really helped me fill in some blanks and gave me more to work with when improv-ing NPC reactions to my players.

Excellent -- thanks for sharing! My group rushed through it on the way to Easthaven but the background really helps. I would say Garn makes excellent blades at Black Iron Blades. The rumor that the blades are low quality was started by a rival smith. It could be a short RP mystery at the table to determine who that is. One of Elza's scorned lovers? Maybe she spills the details under light questioning?

It's -45° out there. His blades are poor quality because they cool way too rapidly when he takes them out of the forge, making the steel more brittle than typical.

Lawful implies following the law of the land. Which could be slavery,public exexutions, or sacrifices. Good/evil can be based on perspective. If he thinks 1 or 2 sacrifices will save 100s of lives

Im using the dwarfs and one of my characters siblings who chose the reincarnation secret and rolled shield dwarf and they left months ago and got lost in a blizzard and died and the younger brother was still a novice at blacksmithing so that's why the quality is bad
