The cost of these specialized pads has gone up to 250 dollars to replace. Ridiculous! Take an old saw and cut off the calcified area to extend life!

I wish you would have included a link to the Eco brand filter pads you referred to because I can't find them.

Thank you! I never would have thought to ask if spas had formaldehyde in it.

Amazed that it takes that long for the smell to disappoint

Mine uses aspen wood shavings. A lot more robust than pea straw!

Aspen pads work well and their inexpensive to replace, when mine get calcified with hard water I replace them about two times during the summer. I have to dry them out every night by not running the pump for about a half hour that's the trick to keep them from molding.

My question is how do you know which one to choose based on your living conditions. You mentioned the weather and water comes into play. So can you break it down on which one workout based on location.

I'm not sure what you're asking, really. Here's like a basic over view. Evap Coolers work well in hot dry climates. They don't work well in very humid climates. You don't typically want to use them in enclosed places (like inside your house with zero open window). If you do use it an enclosed area like a house with all windows and doors shut, it will cool for a few minutes, followed by everything turning damp and muggy within your house, and once there's no more ability for more humidity (fully saturated) in the air, you will get basically no more cooling effect. If you are wanting to use a swamp cooler (evap cooler) in your house, it's usually installed at a window where the air is taken fresh from outside, cooled by the evaporative process, and then allowed to be exhausted at the opposite side of the house. Even in 95F weather, the air inside the house will likely be closer to 80. 15F degree cooling all for like a couple hundred watts to run a fan and a water pump.

I thought I had 77x24 space so I bought 2 12" wide 60" tall cooling pads. I actually only have 20" width of space the pads are obviously supposed to go a certain direction (taller rather than wider) so I have a question : Could I cut a 60" cooling pad into 3 20" pads and make a 20"x36" pad or do the pads only work in one direction?

Yes you can cut them . Started a project of adding more media to my cooler and extra pump . used long blade bread knife is one way . I bought some extra media on ebay 2 years ago

Which type of pads will you use on a evaporative cooler with water supply disconnected, used as a mere makeup air system? Which ones are the quieter of them all?

What is the brand of the filter that does not use formaldehyde? I don't live in your area so I cannot use your services. Thanks.

Do you know where to get a replacement for the pads? mine keeps smelling like mold. I keep cleaning it but in vain. I guess my air cooler needs a brand new honeypad. Can anyone got a genuine website to order? Thanks in advance.

We've got a 3 year old Breezair cooler we love, but around here, the HVAC companies don't know a lot about them. 3 questions: is it safe for the pads to use vinegar or vinegar solution to clean the pads and cooler tray...does the vinegar affect the pad medium? #2, is it worth getting, or having a mesh filter made for summer and spring to prevent blowing tree debris, and 3, is it worth the effort to remove the pads in the fall and put them back in summer when needed? (also using a solid cooler cover during the down months). Thank you for your comments.

Hello. there is no air born bacteria in evaporative cooling that isnt used in cooling towers. A modern cooler will have water management. I have personally found that anything other than pure water erodes the treatment of the paper element and greatly reduces the life expectancy of your pads. my best advice is to run the cooler on fan only before switching the cooler of if you have been using on cool with water. drying the pads out it the best for them =)

DI or RO water is the answer I think.
@markkulyas2418
@markkulyas2418 4 месяца назад
To make RO water is very slow and you throw away about five gallons of water to make 1 gallon of RO water. Evaporative coolers use lots of water so you would never be able to keep up.
@garysargsyan4998
@garysargsyan4998 4 месяца назад
@@markkulyas2418 You're right about RO, my under-sink RO filters can't keep up. However, DI water could replace RO in this case.

Can i use Sponge as pads since it holds more water?
@ericmullinix4717
@ericmullinix4717 8 месяцев назад
You also need to consider the airflow, sponge is very dense

i recently got an evaporative cooler, it uses the thick media with all the holes in it. However, I live in a dusty area and it is sucking a lot of dust into my house, triggering my allergies. Is there something I can add like a thin filter over the pads to prevent the dust from blowing in? How do I solve this problem?
@damianearnshaw6882
@damianearnshaw6882 Год назад
if you are in a dusty area use it on cool. when the pads are wet they are sticky and dust and pollens are captured and wash out =) Damian

not illustrative. thousands different materials. you only demonstrated two materials. they are for second generation evaporative coolers (aka mastercool equivalent) yet the title says evaporative cooler filter pads (mean all kind of machines,). 👎

Thanks for the tip =) i live in Australia and these are the only 2 materials used here
