Radiation therapy is a common treatment for pelvic cancers including colon cancer, rectal cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, prostate cancer, and bladder cancer. This is the first of a three-part series on pelvic radiation therapy. Are the long term side effects permanent, and do you have to use rectal dilators forever?

Great questions - unfortunately, even though fibrosis can be improved, it is permanent. Sometimes people need to use dilators lifelong, but maybe just 1-2 per week to keep the tissues pliable. Check with your medical provider for guidance 😊

@@sheela4537 yes, hyperbaric oxygen can help with some effects from radiation therapy. Great conversation to have with your medical provider to see if it might help your symptoms!

I'm in my last week of radiation and I'm so scared because this week it was so painful to urinate and defecate 😢 I want to quit.

@@capone1074 I'm having my last radiation this Friday I finished chemotherapy already. Keeping it strong 💪 I'll have an MRI done next week to see my progress. I'm trusting my Lord Jesus Christ 🙏 that everything comes out cured and gone for ever.
