I just want to say how much I appreciate the fact that you list prices as Canadian. I was following another Canadian stationary youtuber because I was hoping for a Canadian perspective (so hard to find!). They only listed prices in US dollars, and when I asked them why, they said they have way more US followers. Well, that is a great way to ensure that they won't attract more Canadians. Please continue being unapologetically Canadian! I even bought the patch you linked to from that Albertan maker, so thank you for that!
Really great review! I bought the same Superior Labour clip in the same lovely undyed leather. I too, was a bit put off by the price, but it is my absolute favourite possession 🤎
Hi Leigh, hope you are doing well. I've tried a couple of Superior Labour products and once I get over the initial recoil staring at the price I realize their products are very good! Glad you like your clip. Mine has seen abuse over the years but is still going very strong! Warm wishes and have a lovely day!
This might be a good idea. But maybe only if you always buy the same style notebook. You could get a leather book cover with the loops sewn on the front, slim, medium, large. Two loops for each pen. One for the top, and one for the middle so the pens don't flop around. When the notebook is done then take it off and put it on a different one. Or make the book cover adjustable to accommodate any size, or most notebooks. I guess if I was as serious about the subject as you are, that's the route I would go. If you know that keeping a notebook will be a lifelong endeavor you would have to know that the weakest link of any device such as this will be the loops. The loops will suffer the brunt of the wear and tear. The first device the leather is thinner. It will fray the quickest. The second device will also break down, but not as quickly. Also I don't know how the leather is attached to the metal if it's glued the glue will fail at some point. Or whatever is holding the leather to the metal will fail. The goal is to eliminate the failure points as much as possible. The leather that the pen hangs onto should be sturdier and thicker than the 2 loop device, but thin enough to accommodate the pen. I'm sure there already are leather book covers you can get. It would be an extra step to accommodate the pens.
I had the same problems with the Traveler's Company pen holder, which is such a shame because I think it is beautiful, and I like that you can switch it between different notebooks. But having it fall off all of the time and not fit my pens is a dealbreaker. The other issue I had is that I put it on the back cover, with the back of the clip on the back of the journal and I also found that the metal scratched a few desk and other surfaces that I placed my journal on (!). I've switched to the Leuchterm stick on, as you mentioned.
I bought the 016 before watching this video and knowing that there was a 015. I’m using the 016 with a Dango brand brass travel pen and it works really well with my traveler’s passport notebook.
Interesting! I still haven't gotten anything from Superior Labor yet. I bought a Medium camel-sized pen holder but haven't used it yet. I hear a lot of people say that it falling off is bad (especially when you have an expensive pen in there!) I always wanted to get a Traveler's brass pen or pencil, but I had a chance to try one out in store and the brass smell bothered me too much when I touched it :X
Oh that's interesting. I didn't realize the brass has a small. I'll have to check it out. I haven't pulled the trigger on the Travelers writing instruments because of the price. I'm inclined to go with a Kaweco Lilliput or a brass sport.
I have two TRC fountain pens and while they both fit really well in the larger pen clip, the clip does slide around when I remove or insert the fountain pen. Also I think it’s strange that the metal on the clips doesn’t match the tin clasp on the notebook nor the brass fountain pen and notebook charms TRC sells.
Hi forbidden poet (so many questions on the handle, which I love btw). I never though about the metal not matching. Good point! Take care and have a wonderful day.
Hi! Neat patch on your cover - is that iron on and ok with the leather? or how did you attach it? And I do love the superior labor pen holder but it seems sold out everywhere? :( Thanks for the review!
Hi Jackie, thanks! For the patch I used good old gorilla glue. I tried ironing it on but it never stuck. With the gorilla glue it hasn't come off! Regarding the pen holder - they are popular! If you're in Canada, I'd highly recommend signing up for the notify me when back in stock option on the wonderpens website. As soon as it comes in they are gone. Good luck and best wishes. Have a wonderful day!
Hi there. The writing experience is fine. I usually take one pen out if I'm making a quick note on the go so to speak. For longer durations in the Traveler's Notebook I take the clip completely off for a more lay flat experience and just to have the ability to flip flop between both of my pens. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Warm wishes and have a wonderful day!
On the first type you showed, with the metal clip and the leather loop... Have you tried slipping just the pen's clip into the metal clip? I would never spend $55 on a pen loop. You can get the metal clip without the leather loop super cheap (like a multi pack for just a few dollars). Then just hook the pen's clip into it instead of the barrel. That inside bend of the metal type is just the right size to slide the pen's clip into as long as you don't have the clip pushed all the way onto the pad flap
Hi Rand, thanks for stopping by and sharing. I have tried slipping a pen clip onto the TN leather loop. Two things happened. 1) The clip seemed more prone to completely sliding off the cover and 2) I broke a pen clip. Perhaps I'm a bit rougher than I should be with these items and it didn't quite work with how I setup my system. Good suggestion on the metal clip alternative. I liked the aesthetic of the leather and I realize it was a willing purchase on my behalf to spend more on the Superior Labor clip :) Take care and have a great day!
Hi there. It's a rolltop desk and I just did a video on it actually ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ueNk-tneM8M.html The roll tops are no longer mainstream. Your best bet is to likely check out antique shops or search the web. Hope that helps. Warm wishes and have a great day!
Mercy. There's a wonderful value in wearing a dress shirt, which has a pocket. Even cutting the sleeves off, and creating a vest, works extremely well.
Why does everyone put the clip that way (the short part of the clip facing up)? It ends up putting all the pressure on the top portion of the leather and it ruins it by leaving dents. If you turn the clip 180 degrees and clip it back on the leather doesn’t get damaged because all the pressure from the clip is focused on the suede (bottom) part of the leather
Hi David, if I'm understanding correct; you are suggesting putting the short part of the clip facing down thus on the inside of the front cover or the outside of the back cover. I've gravitated away from the Traveler's Company pen loop for the other reasons I mentioned in the video but if I ever get back to using them I'll have to try this out. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
Hi Charles, Thanks for stopping by. You know, I tried that for a while however my pen barrels kept coming away from the lids. I might be a bit too rough with my stationery gear at times... Take care and have a wonderful day!
Hi Paul, thanks for stopping by. It's been 6 years and with constant use that leather has given maybe a mm. Not sure how they got it so taught. Good point on the clip material and you're probably right. Warm wishes and have a great day!
