A valve is a device that controls, regulates, or directs the flow of fluid by opening, closing or partially obstructing various passageways within a system or process.
The valves serve various functions within the piping system such as:
* Starting or stopping flow based on the valve state.
* Throttling the fluid flow.
* Controlling the direction of fluid flow.
* Regulating flow and pressure within a piping system.
* Relieve pressure or vacuum from the piping system.

The valve can be categorized or classified based on: Function, End connections, How it operates(open and close), and Types of the actuators it uses.
Based on functions it is classified as:
Isolation Valve, Control valve, and pressure relief valve.
Based on End connections they are: Screwed or threaded end, Flanged type end valve, Butt welded end valve, Socket welded end valve, wafer, and lug end connections.
Classification based on how it operates (open and close) is Linear motion, Rotary motion, and Quarter turn.
Classification based on actuators it used are Electric motor, air, hydraulic fluid or solenoid, etc.
Common Types of Valves.
1. Gate Valve. Types of gate valves include
* Solid wedge gate valve * Flexible wedge gate valve * Split wedge or parallel disk gate valve etc.
2. Globe valve. Types of globe valves include
* Tee pattern or Z body type * Y body type * Angle pattern type.
3. Check valves. Types of check valves include:
* Swing * Piston * Lift * Dual plate
4. Ball valve. Types Of ball valves include:
* Standard(threaded) * Hydraulic * Flanged * Vented
5. Butterfly Valve. Types Of butterfly valves include.
*As per disk closure design they are; Concentric and Eccentric.
* As per piping connections they are: Wafer type, Lug type, and double flanged butterfly valve.
6. Needle valve.
7. Plug valve. Types of plug valves include:
*Lubricated * Non-lubricated * Eccentric * Expanding.
8. Pinch Valve. Types of pinch valves include:
* Normally open * Normally close * change over
9. Pressure valve. Types of pressure valves include:
*Spring loaded * Pressure relief * Balanced Bellow * safety relief * Pilot operated * power actuated.
10. Diaphragm valve. Types Of diaphragm valves are:
* Weir type * Straight through diaphragm valve.
All these are discussed in the video, do well to watch till the end to understand their various working principles. Like and share the video and also subscribe to the channel.
