The first week of jury panels is ramping back up in 2023 at the courthouse and the justice center, but the flu and COVID-19 are still causing concerns about whether jurors will appear.
I really don't like your us vs them mentality. This is why corporations and the government are able to turn us all against each other so easily. We are too distracted fighting and blaming each other that we can't realize what the problem actually is.
In Oregon, when you get a license, you're automatically registered to vote even if you don't vote. Two years ago, I was forced into two months of jury duty, and now it's two months of grand jury duty. They better hope the defendant is someone I hate more than I hate being forced into this.
@@deathjoker666 same... Just got a summons to appear next month and tbh I'd love to experience it even though it doesn't pay well. I see it as my responsibility.
Gonna have to do whatever is required when summoned. Unless you get lucky and the case gets dismissed. If you obey the jury and show up, you’ll likely be able to get away with it.
A person should not have a right to a trial by forced jurors. They should only have a right to a trial by willing jurors. People should not be forced to participate as jurors. Some people have religous objections to participating on a jury. Jesus said judge not lest ye be judged. If they want more people to volunteer as jurors all they have to do is increase the money the jurors get for their services. Forcing people to participate goes against our right to religous freedom. Jury "supposed" duty notices always get me way distressed, because they say you're not excused for religous reasons. Which means our religous rights are being trampled.
I feel you honestly. Now I may not be religious myself, but I am an overly anxious person who’s afraid of other people and I have no choice but to go to the courthouse tomorrow. I totally feel you on how it’s stressful to get summoned for jury duty. I also think that people shouldn’t be forced to do such things. Wishing you the best. 🙂🤝
Dear Rodney, It's the very same religious people, who, if the price is right, would set their sights high, becoming managers, owners, or something -- to becoming a judge or jury so they can *execute the underperforming from his livelihood,* while castigating and upbraiding him.
People get inconvenience with jury duty for other people's bad behavior If people don't know the difference between right or wrong you have much bigger issues
@@SporkDaForkk AWFUL! I hated it there I was asked personal questions and then had to listen to everyone else in my group talk about their life ugh like I really don’t need to know how this guy got back with his ex for a hookup like wtf gross I was there for 10 hours mostly sitting down in a chair waiting and waiting and waiting and then wait some more I felt like I was there for a year I have social anxiety so being there with so many strangers is a nightmare but at least I met a nice lady that I could hang out with Once I get to know someone, it’s not too bad but still I wish I wasn’t there
I got a summons for jury duty in PA. I filled out the questionnaire and was required to come in the next day. Two criminal cases consisting of 45 potential jurors were called. I was one of a few people that didn't get called for either and let go early. Why didn't I get picked to even go in to the court room. I'm one of the few people that was actually looking forward to the experience and I'm disappointed. Why did they even call me in?
@@deathjoker666She probably just wanted to experience it. It's not always about money. I just recently got finished with my jury service after being on it nearly a week! I wasn't too mad about it thou due to the fact that I wanted the experience it and plus the case was rather interesting. I also learned about the court system and whatnot. Everyone should really experience Jury service ONCE in their life and stop always trying to dodge it.
They told me I was under oath and could be held in contempt if I lied. I told the truth, they didn't like the truth, so still held me in contempt. How is anyone going to tell me the system is not corrupt?
Your around a bunch of strangers you never met close together you don’t know if they are sick or not even when they think they aren’t sick but might be. What makes me nervous is that somebody might be coughing too much next to me without their face mask.
I just completed jury duty service last week it was a waste of time all they make you do is stand in line and take your jury summons paper and ask you to have a seat in this big room with other people and make you wait for about 2 to 3 hours until they call your name only to call your name again to give u a piece of paper saying you've completed jury duty and you won't have to complete jury duty for another 12 months 🤦🏽♀🤦🏽♀🙄🙄
*SIGHS* Welp.. Got my first summons letter.. At 20… 😢😢😢 UPDATE: …..I actually got picked to go to the courthouse….. ON MY FIRST SUMMONS.. 😔 UPDATE 2: *It was a MULTIPLE murder trial* . BUT I got excused from the judge, sooo idk much more than just that. THE VOIR DIRE was THE MOST PANIC-INDUCING experience for me… I’m just gonna simply move on and HOPEFULLY this never happens again so I don’t have to give these stupid updates.
Learn about Jury Nullification and talk about it when they ask you questions. You have the right to not honor the law and decide if someone is guilty based on your own personal beliefs outside of the color of law. If you think weed should be legal and someone has a weed charge and they prove they’re guilty beyond reasonable doubt you can still say not guilty because you don’t think it’s right. Some people want to be on a jury for that reason, it’s a lot of power to make up your own laws, but also if they know you know that they won’t pick you.
Dear SlapBlazed 0762: A good solution is to revert to the other side: forfeit your uprightness, good citizenship, disappoint the cherished, and enjoy the price you will pay as a low life.
I'm a new legal immigrant. I checked the mail today and found an envelope with a questionnaire. I'm 26 years old. Do I have to go to the court if they summon me. This is such a drag
If you get a summon you do have to report to the courthouse. If not they can send out a warrant for your arrest. Ones are not supposed to dodge Jury Duty no matter what they say.
@@MsInteresting the paper says you have to call the friday prior to your service week. i did and it said i dont have to report tomorrow. tomorrow is saturday. does tomorrow mean monday? the next business day? they didnt say what day? im confused.
I need to know what question is being asked on the anonymous survey form featuring the following five options as there is no heading/question posed above them: male, female, transgender, non-binary, other
hi so on my green summon form it tells me the date 10 Feb to 14 Feb but i forgot to check the status for like 3 days today i check it says 1-500 index number is not required to report on Tuesday does it mean i don't need to go
@@williamrojas5052 it was not that bad i was nervous for no reason, they just had me answer a couple personal questions and how i feel about the case without having evidence.
I sent back my summons letter and said I could come but now I don’t want to go. Will they fine me if I just don’t show up even if I signed the letter saying I could come in?
They will give you a last chance, if you don’t show up, you will either get a fine or a bench warrant, depends most of the time I heard is they don’t have the resources to even arrest you.
Jury duty summons should not be sent via mail but instead delivered by a constable or sheriff's deputy who then immediately takes the prospective juror into custody and brings them to the court house for the selection process. Those released are given a ride home or at least a bus pass while those selected must be taken to a secured hotel.
Remove Custody. No one is taken into custody over a jury summons or even get taken in handcuffs after receiving it. But I detect sarcasm somewhere in there lmfao.
The last time I was called for Jury duty I wanted to plead guilty as charged but the Judge wouldn't let me because I wasn't the defendant I was supposed to be a Jury I said your Holyness oh great and mighty all seeing God of Wisdom its my Constitutional right to pleaded guilty for Jury Duty the Judge then asked me if I have some type of Mental health illness and to that I said yes your Holyness oh might God I then gave him the phone number and name of my Mental health Doctor and also told him I was let out of the Mental health Hospital last month and I am off my Mental health medication again.the Judge told me I was excused from Jury duty and told me not to try and plead guilty for a criminal offense I didn't do and to that I said I was guilty of Jury Duty the court made note of my Mental health issues and they never called me back again after eight years.
