There's a way you can still keep on playing while having tennis elbow. Use the heaviest racket you can handle, change to softer strings and tension like 45-48lbs, deep tissue oil massage the most sensitive spot before and after play, and stretching before cool down. It healed mine for sure and my forearm strengthened to the point I said goodbye to tennis elbow 🙂

I second this! I experience way less arm problems when playing with my heavier frame.

I would add get a bigger grip. Also try super low tensions like 20-30 lbs.

I used to fell pain in my elbow a lot after practice (specially in serving practice) but once I changed to a multifilament string (babolat x-cel) it got a lot better..I can practice serves for hours and my elbow wont hurt

100% agreed! Contributing factor to tennis elbows are the backhand strokes. Single Handed Backhand and the backhand volleys. For forehand we can always use a laid back wrist to not tax the grip, which strain the forearm muscles around and below the elbow. However, for back the direction of the wrist if totally opposite and we can use the laid back wrist and we have to brace the ball impact by either putting a same amount of power against the on-coming ball or we have to grip tighter. Gripping tight tense that muscle group. Of course, no matter what we have to use that muscle group 1 way or the other so we as tennis players has to condition our muscle in a progressive way. No advisable to be a weekend warrior.

Thanks Harry! The vibrational technology provided by the Advantec grip greatly reduced vibration, especially from off-centered hits. I also used the Thera point acupressure double elbow band along with the red (smallest) and green (medium) Theraband Flexbars to strengthen my forearms. It's also VERY important to keep the hand loose on the grip until right before contact -- something I had not been doing and was the cause of my injury. I've been enjoying your channel for awhile as you provide a real service to the tennis playing community.

I started playing tennis in my late 30s, and I don't have a single issue of tennis elbow at all. In fact, it's slightly more taxing on my wrist than my elbow. Hitting with a laid back wrist helps about 70% of the tennis elbow issues, as we hit 70% of forehand most of the time.

Deep acupuncture is a simpler and much less expensive option to PRP injections. It works by poking small holes in affected areas causing minor bleeding, which summons the same healing factors as PRP.

Very informative. I am currently suffering from shoulder impingement in my right shoulder and it’s taking a VERY long time to heal. In the mean time, I have started learning to play with my left arm, which is surprisingly fun. I’m starting with more technical knowledge, and the result is better form than with my right arm. Regarding the dampeners, I’ve been using the very wide Wilson one. I removed it mid practice and definitely noticed a difference. Without it, I felt more like a buzzing sensation in my hand. I definitely prefer playing with it.

Thanks for the pointers. Elbow brace 100% works for me. Helps dampen the strain and pain during match to 30% instead of without it at 100%. It won't fix the issue, but does help soften the pain so I can continuously play. Maybe you had it on too tight that it restricted your game? It doesn't restrict me at all.
@ianbuick8946
@ianbuick8946 2 года назад
@@medusa859 True. Like you said, it won't fix the problem but let you play. Would you rather continue to play without brace? If yes, flexbar is the answer. I've been playing pain-free, brace-free 3 times/week.

Any chance of repeating this segment for golfer's elbow? I assume that the treatments would be similar, but I'd like to hear about what causes it. In my case, I think that it's because of using too much wrist on my forehand topspin shots and too many mishits. I'd like to hear the doc's opinion on the causes of golfer's elbow. Thanks,

One of my hitting partners has tennis elbow and she hits a two-handed backhand. I have had a mild case of tennis elbow a few years back and managed to get rid of it by changing my string tension. I never stopped playing, just played through it. It's such a strange injury and it's quite painful. It's like your elbow is on fire.

Too small grip size? For sure. In the past decade, recreational players have been using what we used to consider "child" grip sizes. I've listed some of my 4 5/8 frames for sale and get no bites...BTW, please don't complain about you're TE if you're playing a Bab PD with poly strings!
@brettneuberger6466
@brettneuberger6466 2 года назад
This is the exact set up I have, including small grip, and haven’t experienced TE despite being susceptible in the past. I’m having my rackets strung with hyper g right now after using multi since buying them. If I start noticing pain I’ll have to add a little heft to my grip and see if it helps. Thanks for sharing. Also, you could try shaving a bit off your existing grips down a size and see if you get any bites on your rackets. Good luck!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Tennis elbow resolves itself in a year, almost every intervention is merely to relieve symptoms. BUT... you've got to work the extensor muscles with weights to strengthen the tendon in time so you don't relapse. Don't inject cortisone, it'll come back after a while. Actually, strengthen all your arm, your shoulder girdle, chest, back, core, and legs. It won's harm you and it's a good use of the energy and time while the pain is in it's acute stage. Good luck.

@TimTheMusicMan
@TimTheMusicMan 2 года назад
@@seanysean86 podiatrists are schooled specifically to work on the foot. I was accepted to podiatry school. You do not know this ? And a very large percentage of their practice is concentrated on the toes and nails. Ankles are usually handled by an Orthopedic. There is no association between the elbow and the foot. Haha. You do not know this ? Would you call An orthodontist if you had eye strain or a would you go see a dermatologist if you broke you wrist ? Come on this is so silly. Harry needs a weeks vacation from videos and tennis.
@Better_Call_Raul
@Better_Call_Raul 2 года назад
@@TimTheMusicMan Yeah, because the knowledge from the foot cannot be applied to tennis elbow. 😒. A podiatrist will probably be more qualified to discuss tennis elbow than the typical family doctor. With over 26 bones, 33 joints (20 of which are actively articulated), and more than a hundred muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the human foot alone, podiatrists have a much better idea of what might be wrong with their patients with foot and ankle problems.
@TimTheMusicMan
@TimTheMusicMan 2 года назад
@@Better_Call_Raul umm? Where did you come to a conclusion that an podiatrist is more knowledgeable than an Orthopedic surgeon ? Just a note, I was accepted into podiatry school. Also to note, most of medicine is overrated they are slaves to the AMA and Pharma. And Pharma has poisoned millions with their horrid drugs and untested vaccines. That said surgeons seem to be a necessary skill but would I choose a podiatrist to handle an elbow, spine, neck ? No. Just like I would not use a podiatrist for a cavity. Podiatrists should stick to toes and bunions. Did you ever see the Seinfeld episode on podiatrists ? In other words lighten up everyone.
