I'm 2 years late to the party but your videos are extremely helpful. You've definitely made this far less scary. Thank you so much

Thank you for all the great information. I find your videos very informative and just what I need as novice narrator on ACX. I have been live streaming for a while on RU-vid and Facebook but just getting into narration. I have been going back through your older videos, great stuff. So, keep them coming, I need them!

Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into helping us "newbies". I enjoy your videos so much! Quick question...is e-transfer an option for receiving payment? (I don't have PayPal.)

I would sign up for PayPal or PayPal business, most sites use it for payment processing, and you can invoice clients with it. It's recognizable and used everywhere.

I'm glad I could decline if the book ends up being filthy, or just mortally wrong. I wouldn't want to promote such things.

Hi there! I have been searching your videos (and many others) and am trying to find one that explains how to set up the equipment. I bought stuff over a year ago and have just had it sitting here while I tried to pursue other ways of bringing in an income. I was (still am) overwhelmed by all of this! HA! I know NOTHING about technology and have NO idea how to even connect the mic or what to do with this little box thing (M-Audio) with dials that I purchased. I cannot recall what the correct term is. LOL I watch videos here and there about sound floor, decibels etc and just kept thinking I couldn't possibly do it. Many friends and family members have encouraged me and suggested that I pursue this in the first place, they always love hearing me read to them etc. I REALLY need to get going on this, I have equipment and am anxious to play around and practice before submitting auditions etc but have NO CLUE how to connect these things together and get going. I hope this makes sense and maybe you can help direct me to where I can plug things in? LOL Thanks in advance! I really love your videos and I am sure your voice sounds familiar.

Hi Laura! Totally relatable! Your mic should have come with a cable, plug one end into the mic, the other end into the input that matches on the M-Audio unit (your interface). Then, plug the usb from your interface into your computer. There maybe some software from your interface that needs to upload to work properly but that's about it. :) Then, choose a DAW (recording software) and get started with the tutoriaks on how to use your DAW and practice.

@@VoiceOverAngela OMG, thanks soooo much! I looked at my stuff and my interface doesn't have anywhere for a USB? I bought this one (M-Audio AIR 192|6 - 2-In 2-Out USB Audio / MIDI Interface with Recording Software from Pro-Tools & Ableton Live, Plus Studio-Grade FX & Instruments ) over a year ago...too late to return it since I didn't even look into setting it all up until recently. I also bought some HUGE cable thing and headphones. The big cable thing looks like one end goes into the interface...Ok I looked and it is a mic cord. Was suggested as what I needed when I was researching last year at this time. Sounds like it is not essential. So maybe I could try and sell this interface and get one you have suggested...I truly cannot thank you enough, your help has encouraged me. I think I will buy a new interface (haven't bothered to download their software as there was no point playing around when nothing was hooked up to power! LOL) and get this all set up, play around and see what happens. I know you are soooo busy, I appreciate you taking time to help me. I plan to watch every single video you have ever made on here! Take care! I am learning sooooo much and am excited for my new career path! No more being a nanny and chasing kids around! LOL

Hi Angela, I've been following your videos on book narration, and I just received my first contract offer from ACX. However, I only have about 24 hours to accept, and I'm not sure if I should accept without negotiating first. The payment is per finished hour (PFH), and I recall you recommending a 50% upfront payment, but I haven't had a chance to discuss this with the rights holder yet. What do you suggest? P.S. Your fans miss you!
@VoiceOverAngela
@VoiceOverAngela Год назад
You can negotiate with the RH before you accept, if the rate is acceptable, tell them you collect 50% upfront. I missed last week's live due to illness, but I'll be back next Tuesday! :)

@@VoiceOverAngela Thank you, Angela! I'll reach out to the rights holder and negotiate the upfront payment before accepting the contract offer. I appreciate your advice and I'm looking forward to tuning in next Tuesday.

Hi, great content…question? I’ve accepted my first audiobook proposal on ACX but it’s been 5 day and the RH hasn’t provide me with manuscript, I’ve sent a couple of messages to RH and nothing…any advise on that, I would greatly appreciate it.
@VoiceOverAngela
@VoiceOverAngela 2 года назад
Well, if I were in your shoes, I would wait and send reminders. You could also include that the clock for delivery wouldn't start until you have the manuscript. :) You never know, they may have had an emergency or something come up. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for your response, they’ve finally sent the manuscript and I’m on my way to producing the 15 minute checkpoint, so very excited for that, hope everything goes well, again, thanks for your help, your content has been very helpful to me, I’ve learned a lot….have a great one.

So as the client, what do I have to provide you to work with? Double spaced text etc…. As a potential voice artist, what should I expect to receive? Thank You.
@VoiceOverAngela
@VoiceOverAngela Год назад
As the client, the text or page format doesn't really matter for us, we just need it in a document format we can open. Microsoft Word or pdf are best. I've had many .epub or other formats that the software to open these aren't found on everyday computers. They can be converted online but some sites want to charge to convert if its too large or narrators simply don't know they can use these converters.

Paypal keeps 3% of what is sent to you. Is it appropriate to ask that the author covers that 3% if they choose paypal as their method of payment vs. say venmo?

In my opinion, if it's the cost of doing business. Keep fees in mind when determining your rates, but fees are a common business expense.

Hey Angela, love your videos! So I have a question, I recently got screwed over, this guy asked me to do an audiobook for his website off of ACX, but he contacted me for it through ACX. I tried to get him to submit a contract through the website, but he was just pushing for me to send him a sample. Huge red flag I know, but I’m just starting out and I’m desperate for work. So I sent him the sample and he liked it and agreed to my rate. I recorded the entire 2 hour audiobook for him, got him to once again agree on the terms of sending me payment when I sent him the recording. A week later he said he liked it and quality was good but he “just didn’t feel it” and he doesn’t think he could use it for the website. Now is there anything I could do in this case? I really want to be compensated for my work. I’m just going to stick to ACX for now.
@VoiceOverAngela
@VoiceOverAngela 2 года назад
Hi Travis! Im sorry that happened to you. I would send him an invoice for the agreed upon rate, if there was one. I would use a service like Paypal business to send invoices with due dates. Be sure to get confirmation in writing of what the terms are before you start and you can even negotiate 50% upfront.
@travster647

@@VoiceOverAngela okay thanks! And yeah he totally agreed on the terms that I laid out clearly. So I’ll send him an invoice and link my PayPal. Thanks again!

Thank you Angela for your selfless information in not only this video but others too. I managed to get my 1st project and it has a royalty share payment setup, but have a concern regarding my narrating name. In ACX profile I put a pseudo name that I feel would be more cooler than my real full name that is very long and gives out my ethnicity etc., which I feel may turn-off authors. Anyway my question is I noticed in my contract the pseudo name is there, is that OK? I have provided my bank info in ACX, so for any royalty deposit (if/when it happens) I guess payment wise should be OK. Just wanted to run by you, do you see any concerns in having a pseudo name as my full name in ACX/ contract? Thank you.
@VoiceOverAngela
@VoiceOverAngela Год назад
If the pseudonym is what you're using to narrate the book, I wouldn't think so. To be sure, check if this is in ACX's FAQs or reach out to customer support. 😉
@visiblebeyond4388

@@VoiceOverAngela Thank you Angela, your thinking seems right. Coincidentally after messaging it occurred to me to check with ACX too so i emailed them. They said it is OK to use a pen name and have that name in the contract. On a side note, point to be noted is they used the word "pen name" instead of "pseudo name". "Pseudo" does make me sound like a fraud but "pen" does sounds better, and in my case my voice-over name is just an abbreviation of my real name so some resemblance there, and nothing totally off like Dr. Oz.😁.
