“Have you ever thought about retrofitting your existing home insulation? What is a passive house? How does it compare to a net-zero home? How much do new passive homes cost, and what about retrofits? In this video, we'll explore some of my favorite examples: The Pumpkin Ridge Passive House in Oregon, the S-House in Hangzhou, the Lanefab Passive House, the Gottschee Passive House in Slovenia, the Tigh na Croit is a certified passive house in Scotland, and the Bahnstadt district in Heidelberg. Enjoy!

It would seem to be easier to reach net zero with a passive house as it requires less of everything. One could extend that principle to other areas, say water use by collecting grey water from those fixtures that would qualify and then use that water to flush toilets, as an example. Air to air heat exchangers would/should be required for an passive house as they are so airtight and would need fresh air. Passive houses also could incorporate passive solar heating designs which require nothing to operate and provide a portion of the energy to heat/light the house. Good video, thank you.

Great points! Agreed. The layout and cost depend on the climate. In cold climates, passive houses need really thick insulation. Thank you! A pleasure to see you here again! Katha
