It’s by design. The dark explanation for that: to incentivize overconsumption and addiction. I’ve been in the alcohol industry for 13 years. The 30pk of beer, the 5L box of wine, and the 1.75L of liquor are almost always the cheapest cost per serving. This drives volume… aka the amount of alcohol that people are consuming. If you are economical and responsible, then a 1.75L purchase is a steal. But many people lack self control, and will drink more alcohol when more alcohol is purchased. It’s those people that the industry targets.
@@chrisbeerguy1489This is explained by a concept called economies of scale, not just the alcohol industry trying to get people hooked, although I'm sure they do that too. Bulk is always cheaper in every industry/commodity. Always.
@@Joseph-C It’s beyond just economies of scale, I understand what that is. This goes beyond that, alcohol is an addictive substance. The alcohol industry uses pricing strategies to make the largest sizes artificially cheap and to incentivize the customer to buy more than they originally planned on. It makes no sense that a 750ml of Sailor Jerry costs $21, but a 1.75L (more than twice as much) costs $30. The price per serving is so disproportionate between those two sizes that can’t be explained simply as economies of scale.
I took care of a strip malls landscaping ,that had a liquor store in the mall, before we could mow every week we picked up dozens of 1 oz bottles a week, almost all of them seemed to be a 99 flavor or Hennessey, lol
@@coltonlast9679 No kidding lol here's what I ment to say for the next guy that sees it: "The handle is for the weekend. The pint is for after work 🤙."
1 oz. for when you wake up, for the drive to work, for the morning break, for lunch, for afternoon break, and for driving home. I’m not that person, but sadly, if you work with one who is, you know.
A distillery in my region (western Canada) was selling for a time a 19L bottle of vodka for 500$. It came in one of those water cooler plastic bottles (and supposedly works if you put it in a water cooler). I've never been prouder to live here
You are going to buy it anyway. Bite the bullet and get the big one. Its more expensive on the smaller bottles for something you are going to buy anyhow.
Price per ounce the bigger one is cheaper, and unless you're never going to buy it again and we're planning to quit drinking after that it's the better value.
@@mmarkwardt96 As a liquor store manager for 13 years, I’ve seen a lot of people die from drinking themselves to death. You are on that same path. It’s not too late to get help. I would rather have you alive as an occasional customer, or as a nondrinker, than see you every day as you increasingly destroy yourself. If you need the bottle to keep you from shaking, you need to go through a medically supervised detox. I’ve seen the whole spectrum of alcoholism, and this is on the very bad side of that spectrum. I hope you get help man.
I buy 50ml cause it's something I've never had. I buy a pint because that's all I'll need for the night. I buy 750s because you can't get good whiskey in 1.5L. I buy handles for parties. Do the math it's no saving you much money over a 750
I buy tha smallest size to taste test different brands. I was able to taste test and compare 7 different vodka brands for fairly cheap by buying those tiny bottles. Nothing to do with alcoholism. I'd do the same thing for whiskey and gin but those little bottles aren't usually used by good quality brands.
The little one. Is a travel one. The small one up is for the night. I skip and go to the litre which will last 1 to 2 nights. (From the UK for reference on me saying Litre)
I have finally gotten to a point in life where I found my favorite kind of vodka....for what it does for me, how it affects my body and the price, so when I go to the liquor store, I often buy 3 of the 1.75 liter bottles of it at once. I also get a couple of the little ounce bottles from the front just to spice things up. I used to go to the liquor store every day or every other day. That got old quick and wasted too much time and gas.
I used to work in a liquor store here in Texas, & the 50ml bottles are known as managers, had to be sold 2 at a time, put in a small brown paper bag, top of the bag folded over & receipt double stapled to the folded bag top so that the customers couldn't get into the bag & drink both bottles in the parking lot, & repeat customers for the manager bottles in the same day were automatically barred from the store. I wasn't gonna get my ass hung out on a line!! That's TX state law. Also, TX still has the old blue laws where liquor stores are open from 10am to 9pm & only open Monday through Saturday.
Where the fuck in Tx are you spouting that bullshit about? From El Paso to fuckin Nacogdoches I’ve been able to walk in & grab a single shooter, pay for it, & walk out the store with it, without any of that shit you’re spoutin on about. Ain’ a goddamn law at the state legislature sayin’ I cain’t, cuz I can.
@@AlphaOneActualas shocking as its going to sound, I worked at a liquor store in Kerr County, from 2004 to 2010. I've kept up-to-date on all the liquor laws even now & those laws are buried in a lot of the text within the liquor store rules book.
Stupid laws. I love how liquor stores are supposed to police their customers. We have police for that. In Indiana you cant buy until 7am and most places are open till midnight. Sunday is noon to 8. I think that is lame too.
I almost always buy 750 ml bottles because i like highend whiskey and usually only the cheap swill economy liquor comes in handles .if your lucky you might get a couple mid shelf whiskeys in handles but it 95% cheap thrash liquor .
I almost exclusively buy 750ml bottles now since 1. most liquor only comes in that size and 2. liquor that comes in other sizes is usually low quality (although there are some of the 375ml bottles that are very high end). Not that I won't ever buy low quality liquor, but having a bit of turnover means I can try more brands and the smaller bottles usually aren't worth the price.
Ok, what's this Liter Tax because it's popped up for me with this one customer, but I have never been told about one. I'm absolutely perplexed about wtf is it
The pint is the best treat for when you get paid and don't want to do anything else that night. The 750 is best for parties and the jug is mine for everyday use.
I buy the half gallon most often but my favorite vodka only comes in a 1/5th so I have to bite the bullet. Channel I think it’s only available in Orange because it’s from rose city distillery it’s like $16 bucks a 1/5th but totally worth it .
I like 750s because their just enough to get me and my buddy drunk but not sloshed, just enough to get me screwed up but not black out, and just enough of anything over 99 proof to make me say things I forget.
Then there’s that guy in his early 20s that you’re genuinely concerned about that comes in almost everyday, gets 2 pints of the cheapest vodka, barely says a word and leaves.
750s are pretty standard in the uk there’s some litre bottles but generally don’t often see bigger than that but they way I see it one 750/litre bottle per person per day is about right
I always buy a lot of discounted alcohol to have a nice bar and selection, rather than buying overpriced ones in small bottles. In the end, I drink a lot more than I would and have a lot more troubles with my health...
I buy 750 ml bottles... But I also collect whiskey. Not to drink... I have about 30 bottles now. Most expensive one is either Crown Royal XR LaSalle blue box or the Frank Sinatra Jack Daniels bottle in the box, I think that's actually not a 750 ml bottle though now that I think about it... My favorite one though is got to be the eagles rare. I opened that one up and actually drank some of it and it was amazing, had a good brown sugar / green tea note. And I don't think you can buy smaller bottles of eagle rare... Or Angels envy now that I think about it/ or anything that's barrel proof or cask strength. Hmm, Maker's Mark my do something in a smaller bottle cast strength or barrel proof? But Maker's Mark is trash as far as I'm concerned. Had an old fashioned last time with Maker's Mark and it sucked.
One time in the liquor store saw a dump truck driver buy right about 50 of those 1oz shot bottles, along with two handles. All vodka. It was fucking terrifying
Lol I buy 2-3 handles every 2 week pay period but some times I'll get 1 or 2 ait place bottles if I had a shit day and they always kinda chuckle and make sure it's the right one cause they can tell
