I can see why people would think Digimon is a ripoff, but it’s not. It came from tamagotchi. The makers saw that more girls were buying tamagotchis, so they decided to make something to cater to boys. The v-pet was born, and so was Digimon. They decided to make an anime, and the rest is history

Not to mention I find the story in the Digimon Anime so much more compelling. The fact that the characters actually grew up in "real time" along with the fans and ended with them saying goodbye to their partner Digimon made it much more interesting than just "Ash is finally the Pokemon Master.
