We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

Erin, I think you are the top celebrity in the world and should be nominated for a Supreme Grammy Award. Not only do you perform your duty as a wife, mom, teacher, photographer, film editor, motivator, nurse, chef, cleaner, planner and organizer but you also perform man's duties like driving a tractor and other heavy duty equipment, do real carpentry with real heavy equipment, trench digger and filler, cement and concrete mixer, painter and stainer, woodburner/decorator, farmer and so much more, with no moaning and groaning but with a smile and a laughter in each of your videos. You are really somebody with exceptional qualities and I applaud you. Thank you for sharing your life with us. I love you guys.

These last 2 episodes were so inspiring to witness. Your family rallied together to get the time sensitive jobs done so that Josh could rest & heal from his injuries... and what a beautiful, empowering time for Erin and the kids to realize what they can accomplish without the very knowledgeable and great builder man of the house. I LOVED seeing Ellie using power tools this episode and how Leon wants to be right in it and comes in for snuggles in the last episode... but best of all I loved seeing how all 3 kids stepped up to the plate and how the parents interact brilliantly with the kids.

For thousands of years men passed these skills on to their sons, and rarely did women gain access to learn them and even fewer were able to pass them on to their daughters. As a woman in a technical field working with nearly only men, it makes me beyond happy to see how far you've come, how much Josh has honored your ability, and how now your girl will someday say "my mom taught me that". ❤️

JudithB My father had a cow when I asked him to teach me to use the tablesaw many years ago! Since then, I have built several porches, carport, hay barn, 24x40' barn, greenhouse, finished a prebuilt 24x20 2 story building and next is a wood shed. I taught my 3 granddaughters how to build bookshelves, tables, and cabinets and they built a 8x16' deck as preteens. I think it gives them a good foundation and confidence to build their own homes some day.

I’ve commented a few times on your videos and y’all are such beautiful people. You see it in the comments from others today, as well as so many other times, about how much y’all inspire us. We comment about the love and devotion plainly visible between Josh and Erin. We get teary eyed being allowed to watch three such wonderfully loved children grow before our eyes. We, myself included, are constantly searching for the right and best words to share how much you impact us. We become shocked at how much we cheer for Chuckie (the real brains of the operation…lol) and for Leon (your protector). For me, twice a week for just a few moments the universe pauses, Heaven holds its breath, God stills the noise of the world, and I am witness to true manifestation of the fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, forebearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no question of the love, joy, and peace present in your family. What strikes me personally more is that no matter the project, the circumstances, the successes, or the challenges there is such an overwhelming presence of kindness and gentleness so powerful and so tangibly real I think you don’t realize how much you genuinely impact others in such beautiful way.

It goes without saying that a strong mother and wife holds the reins when times are tough. But to employ the oldest son to carry some of the load is special and teaches him leadership and life skills. Valuable life lessons right there!

Every man should be so lucky to have a good woman to be able to carry on the duties when he can’t. Josh, you are one of those lucky dudes. As mentioned below, I too love to see the “young ones” getting involved and learning. Great job guys.

Could not love this more! The work continues, the family stepping in, lessons learned for all, and corners not cut. I know its killing Josh, but watching everyone keep the ball in motion is awesome. What an incredible family, opportunity, and inspiration. You ALL rock!!

Well done🙌 You make all the women proud that are watching. Josh trusts you to do it right, you have been working together all this time, you have the skills. Teaching the kids as well, this way they won't be coach potatoes! I love your family's work ethic. 👌💐

Your family is a National Treasure. Seeing how functional your family is, how Ellie can drill a screw into the beam, and Carter just steps in and takes over Josh's place, and Chuckie clears the worksite and you are now laying the drainage and backfilling and putting up the front facade and getting the Christmas tree up and decorated and Josh is so positive and appreciative and encouraging.... just a blessing to watch.

After my hip replacement, I got a "sock puller" tool. Handy! And a grab stick. You've got a small fortune in Simpson hardware. To flush out the Durock backing, you can also attach the corner hanger first to the floor headers 1 1/2" back from your flush surface. In any case, nice work! It is excellent you are involving the kids in your projects. They will gain a sense of ownership as well as learning valuable skills and work ethic. Win-win-win-win ...

As amazing as it is to see Josh work super professionally with the excellent help of Erin, it's so nice to see Erin do everything by herself because it's a bit more relatable for us who are skilled DIY enthusiasts but not trained professionals. And like in the previous video it is wonderful to see the kids help so much and work on the house. Ellie helping so much, operating the impact driver at such a young age is proper parenting right there. Love it. Great job y'all. Keep up the good work.

Josh as the master builder on this job you should be proud, the apprentice you've been training has/is demonstrating the all the training has been absorbed and can be employed with little or no guidance. I'd say Erin has reached without question the journeyman status. Not only that, but she is more than adequately starting the basic training of a new group of apprentices.

Not to disagree, but I also think Erin has some powerful skills that Josh doesn’t have, but together they make it whole.👍

I was just thinking that Josh might end up milking the injury as long as possible seeing how well things are getting done, then he basically says the exact same thing. Too funny!!! You guys are always a joy to watch.

What a wonderful video! Indirectly, Josh's injuries might become a blessing in disguise. Look what it's doing for your children! You aren't just building a house--you're building children into confident, competent, and caring adults. I can hear how much you miss Josh in your voice. It shows in your eyes, too. Again, a blessing in disguise might be that you're showing your family (and us by extension) how important and beautiful your bond to each other is. I wish you all the best, in the build and in your family. What a blessing you are to those who follow you. God bless you all!

Erin, first, you're doing a GREAT FANTASTIC job, and you are a TROOPER! This is how you develop the skills - just do it! I'd suggest putting in the brackets first. Use some cutoff pieces to get the spacing from the front of the posts. "We want to eat something that tastes good after all..." get Josh to just do it, too - teach him how. On the downspout, maybe put a 2x frame around it to protect it. It's so good seeing the kids working with you. This is SOOoo good for them, too! Good plan on the durock. I'd recommend check plumb on the edge of each new piece rather than just fitting them together to prevent accumulated error. "this rib thing might last a couple extra weeks" - I don't believe it, it'd kill me to have to stay down when stuff was happening. Great music, great cinematography. Tell Ellie she's a movie star! We're finishing up a fix-n-flip rehab, then start on OUR home build in the country!

My heart filled with joy when Ellie operated the drill driver all by herself. And Carter is so amazing and strong! And I am sure that behind the scenes, Hayden is taking really good care of his father. Awesome bunch of kids, Josh and Erin!
