So true, my friend. The way those two kids talk so different then our children’s generation. Not saying wrong about our kids now, just saying. I’m fortunate to have two wonderful girls but they definitely do not talk like those two back then😄🥰
Dorothy was a whore. The "new baby" was the result of an illicit affair with Johnnie Rey, and her husband eventually disowned the child. I wonder if silly Dorothy realized that Johnnie Rey was homosexual.
Their Mom died at age 52 in 1965 and 4 yrs and 2 months later their dad died at the age of 60. They were young adults and less when the Mom died and and barely a teenager when the dad died. Very sad.
@Brains00007 Agree. Etiquette is very important in the social context. When debates of whatever sort begin with objective acknowledgement of the dignity of all involved, useful resolution is more likely. These social norms evolved for good reasons.
She paid the price for drinking whilst on barbiturates. She had the time and the platform to disseminate any info she had on Ruby etc. I don’t believe the single shooter theory either. But to tie Kilgannen into a wider conspiracy just discredits it as it’s easily refuted looking into it, so I must assume it has been encouraged by the establishments coverup operation. But obviously I don’t know anything but what is established for sure. She may have been murdered, but as outlined above, Occam’s razor suggests otherwise.
It was her husband who killed her. She caught him with a man in their bedroom, and decided to just remain married for appearances. She had her youngest son, by a rock star, and when she died her husband Richard Kollmar disowned him. It’s so unfair how she died.
I just think all you need to say is the FBI seized her documents, the body looked staged and the guy (forgot his name) she met with last night before she died acted suspicious. Her kids have even said they think she wss murdered. She knew too much and paid the price. Its a real shame. Hopefully the trith will come out. It usually does.
@@Pamsmith59 That's true. I was very fortunate that my late mother was a college English teacher and she was a born again Christian ✝️. My mother taught me the proper way to say words. She expected me to use proper grammar when I spoke all the time, starting when I was 5 years old. She also brought me up in the very strict Victorian style.
Look at how their mother raised them. At such a young age they were perfectly polite. The boy nodded his head while shaking a lady's hand, and the young girl curtsyed.
+ Jamie Campos that's exactly what came into my mind when I saw it. I was taught this too as a little child. Today this is all gone... so sad that these children lost her mother so young.
I, for one, am glad that no one made me curtsy. You can be "perfectly polite" without any of that and it was in fact already going out of style in the 50s. When Brandon De Wilde was on the show, he simply shook hands (no bow) and no one complained about him being impolite. I was taught to shake hands and ask "How do you do?". I guess I wasn't perfectly polite.
@ Glenn: Yeah, if you mean "class personified" means basically killing yourself with alcohol and barbiturates when you had three kids. (I really doubt someone FORCED those things down her throat.) Plus wasn't she a GOSSIP columnist? How uttahly classy, dahlink!
She has a private audience with Jack Ruby, which the authorities didn't like and just before she died she was going to tell all.Her book was open by her side but her glasses were across the room and she couldn't see to read without them.Very suspicious to me.
The panel was so used to the mystery celebrities disguising their voices, that the kids' natural voices stumped the panel really well! What an amazing show, and it must've been extremely tough on them losing her. 😔♥️
These kids are bright and well behaved children and gave everyone entertainment without even trying they’re so funny and loved way they shook hands and curtstied very polite don’t see that one anymore is why enjoy utube give us entertainment we so dearly crave😇🤩😃⭐️😍
2:35 "Miss Arlene will contain herself!" 3:23 "Well if you were the daughter there would be no reason to disguise your voice, because I don't think we know it... therefore are you the MOTHER of Dorothy Kilgallen?" What impeccable woman's logic.
I want kids like that - well behaved. And they're having so much fun, loving to fool around. "are you the mother or daughter?" Jill: "Yes!" "Are you the daughter?" Dickie: "No". "Then are you the son?" Jill: "No"
@@bonnienadinenewman That's in the public schools. But, the parents are pushing back against the Left. In the real Spirit filled Christian ✝️ schools, the kids are being taught to have very good manners.
Wanupgurl Sorry. I didn’t mean email source. I meant source. I do not believe that she committed suicide. JFK’s murder was a sensitive issue, anyone with information about it was silenced in one way or another.
@@Sspiral1 beautiful children. So well behaved. Polite and so gracious. Dorothy instilled on her children manners graciousness and humor. Wonderful. So sorry they lost their mother at such an early age
Everyone is moaning that girls no longer curtsy. I'm more saddened by the fact that girls that age now wear full face make up, fake nails, revealing clothes and already colour their hair while this girl looked like what she was: a child! The lost innocence of childhood...
I like watching this show because it shows class and dignity we don't often find in popular media anymore. That young man bowed shaking each person's hand and the young woman curtsied.
Beautiful children so polite what a gem. I love watching reruns of this show. It's just such a shame I found out about it through Dorothy's death. Bless that family. 🙏 🥰🥰
I can’t IMAGINE living at a time when little girls curtsied to adults!! And STILL those little girls would grow up to be mothers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, and educators! It was just plain class.
Jill, born in 1941, married musician Larry Grossman in 1963. Richard/Dickie, jr, born 1943, had a 3 yr old daughter at the time of Dorothy's death. and Kerry (the baby they speak of in this show) born 1953; he was credited as "Little Boy" in the Annette Funicello movie "Pajama Party." Dorothy's younger sister Eleanor, was the talent agent for many big stars; from Warren Beatty, Jack Klugman and up to Kim Cattrall; just an endless amount of now famous stars......
Interesting. Now it makes sense why Dorothy was the recipient of everyone's over-the-top flattery on WML. Rub her up the wrong way and your career could suffer irreparable damage.
I regret not paying more attention or asking my parents and grandparents more questions about their personal experience living during this time. Such respect for others and no use of sexuality or cussing to better their career.
the date of this was 21, march 1954, and she just had her baby 2 days before on the 19th. I think that's mainly why she wasn't there. And she was pregnant from mid 1953 till early 1954.
yep, she was heavy with child in that stretch you speak of. she worked through 3 kids. It's a shame she drank so much and took barbituates. Reminds me of Marilyn Monroe. Her husband really could pound back the alcohol too. With wealth comes access. Can you imagine the size and variety their custom bar in their home in Mathatten? They also owned a bar so alcohol was all over the place.
RImusclebear1 What's happened is a simple failure of parents to teach their children manners and respect. May I add, also, that children learn far more readily by example, so parents are not modeling good manners themselves if children are ill-mannered. Add in the tendency of modern parents to spoil and indulge their offspring, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Make no mistake; everything that happens in the now postmodern world has a spiritual meaning. Getting away from manners and increasing disrespect, worsening with every subsequent generation, is a satanic ploy to deceive the nations. It works well, and societies will continue to dissolve into totally unbridled narcissists before Christ comes again. The world will be as in the days of Noah. And we’re getting there fast.
@@raesmith2164 No, these children *were* boomers! It is the Millennials (b. 1982-2004) who are the ones who are not "normal" and succumb to the socialist/communist nonsense philosophy, plus they can't even tell the time looking at analog clocks (i.e., two hands), in stark contrast to anyone else!
Little known fact; the child she was off having was the result of an affair Dorothy had with singer Johnnie Ray. Her husband didn't find out till later and disowned him at 16 after Dorothy's death
Well, darn! I hit dislike by accident from laughing. These kids were great. Regarding the politeness of the times, I hold out hope for the younger generation today. There are still ways they show respect. I may not have ever gotten a curtsey, but I have been told with conviction, "You rock!" I'll take conviction over formal expectation any day. While there will always be crude people of any time period, I think it's the media that has gotten rude, and the kids will rebel against that.
Smart kids and quite charming, the girl curtsied for everyone on the panel . The apple doesn’t fall far from its tree. Sad they lost their mom so early in life.😢
This was SOOO FUNNY!!! 😂😂😂. I love how Mr. Daly talks about their wonderful friend, Dorothy (because after she passed...not 1 word really from the cast members except dedicating a show in her honor. It’s like “mum’s was the word!” 🤔) Nice to hear him say those dear things about her! This was indeed a funny & happy show! Loved this! First time seeing it...about 10 yrs before my time! A real treat! Thank you! Loved seeing the others w/her dad & husband, as well! This was my favorite! 😊♥️
So sad these brother and sister, and their younger brother who was just born who was mentioned, were all orphans at such an early age...I hope they led happy and fullfilling lives despite this
Mannerly children back in the day. The girls had to curtsy and the boys had to bow when we had visitors to our classroom when I was a child back in the early 1960's. Eventually it fade.
I just received today hours and hours and hours of the Dick and Dorothy radio shows with the kids on some of them. Fascinating listening to an era totally gone, that of the chic, sophisticated, intelligent, successful couple with enchanting children at home in Manhattan. Never a dull moment, a lot of wit, and quite a bit of snobbery too, on purpose and it worked!
It is so easy to raise children with manners!!! BUT the parent has to want it, care to and make the effort. I see too many parents who don't want to work at raising their child, but do the Hands Off Parenting Thing. Ug! I loved the curtsy.
Bow and curtsy was starting to be old-fashioned and going out of style in the 1950s. If you think all children then had respect and manners, read some Louise Bates Ames, particularly stuff from her columns. Children weren't MUCH better than today when keeping in mind all the misbehavior Ames called "normal". They were on live TV and back then you did NOT see people acting rude and sassy on live TV, so of course they behaved. They didn't want to embarrass themselves.
@@pilroberts6185 our students today are " all thumbs," They can no longer read nor can they write cursive. I hope homeschooled children are learning cursive..
They didn't teach handwriting in 2nd or 3rd or 4th grade for my child so I took it upon myself to teach her cursive. I showed her all the letters show her how to write her name and my name and now she writes cursive perfectly
The new child was Kerry Kollmar born 19 March 1954. Even though he is called Kollmar, he is actually Johnnie Ray's child due to an affair Dorothy was having with him. That is why he is the only child with blonde hair. Mr Kollmar Sr. did find out about the child not being his before Dorothy's dodgy death.
@@bobanderson6656 that's right, and it went syndicated much later than that. That's when she made the real money, when it synciated to 120 newspapers. Then of course, there was the morning radio show she did and this show. So she had a stream of money coming in at all times. The husband, not so much but he did get paid for some of his radio shows and for a couple broadway productions, but not very much compared to the bread-winner of the family, Mrs. Dorothy Killgallon. She wasn't as loaded as Bennett Cerf....few were. But she made do and when they finally were allowed to take long summer vacations away from the set of "What's My Line", she was able to go on trips abroad..but not as expensive a trip as Bennett took. As testiment to one trip he took to Caneel Bay in the US Virgin Islands (St. Johns). Caneel Bay was a Caribbean Paradise and only Bennett Cerf could afford that place.
I have no idea what you're point was that was removed all I know is manners should be instilled in all kids. Respect, proper manners. Not just for show but for everyday life. Parents today seem to miss the mark on teaching their kids manners and respect, thus we have a ton of ill mannered, disrespectful kids running amuck because of lousy parenting by parents to lazy to take the time to be with their kids and get them off the TV and video games.
This is true, but those kids are now around 65, so even though THEY had good manners, they apparently didn't pass it down, and their kids didn't either to THEIR kids (if, there are any yet). I am right on the edge of being a "baby boomer", but really, it amuses me to no end how "baby boomers" complain about "how today's kids have no manners" when THEY (the baby boomers) didn't teach their kids any.
