BB was the first beard care company I used. I loved the quality and scent. I eventually had the every product in the gold line. The gold line used better quality ingredients than the silver and white line. I didn't mind paying more for a healthy beard that smelled amazing. Then one day they announced they are making all the products the same with the exception of the scent, obviously. Then they reformulated the oil and it was awful. Old Money didn't smell the same and was weak. Temple Smoke beard wash smelled like nothing. I emailed them my concerns and they said "it was a known issue". I got sick of getting ripped off by their "premium product" and found a better brand for cheaper. Years later now they came out with 4oz beard oil for $26 so I figured I would give them a shot again. After 2 days of use my beard feels like straw. I went back to my regular beard oil and it is back to soft and healthy. It's too bad greed ruined this company.
No my friend it's not the same product!!! Apparently you didn't use the old products compared to these. I mean literally the ingredients list isn't the same. These are a low grade carrier blend. You think they kept using the same quality they were and just went from a glass bottle to a tin bottle and were still able to make the same products and make profit like they were?? Bro do your research on these companies and stop listening to guys like Dan bc he is lying to you
It used to be $40 oz at their peak which was insane. Their brand fell off because they stopped filming in unique barbershops with interesting barbers, now they use their own bland shop with boring barbers. Btw they totally got rid of the Argan oil.
Yeah I couldn't remember their peak prices but I knew it was to much. Lol. I remember when they started and they actually had a decent product and then when they continued to grow and grow and when they got to the point where they went into a big box store like Target that the quality of the actual carriers and all that stuff went down dramatically because obviously they are being looked at and held to a much higher standard and guidelines due to the government and all the stuff like that, they decided to maximize profit and lower QA. It's sad. Now they survive off the name they built and it will soon crumble
I'd say out of all the changes that Beardbrand has made, the barbers and barbershop has been by far the worst. Nothing at all like the feel of the old Beardbrand videos.
Personally been using the utility oil for last month or so. Beard has never felt better, in conjunction with brushing it. I use the old money and it’s smells fine. Never used the previous versions. The utility oil isn’t for shaving. That’s the utility softener. I actually just got some temple smoke softener, Smells pretty good to me. Not too strong not too little for both products. The lumber version of the older oil bottle you have is still on Amazon. I always wandered what the difference is. But it’s great to have all in one products if you choose to do so. Great packaging and customer service. Personally think they went eco friendly on packaging. I think the aluminum bottles are cool and masculine looking. They let people know the different ways you can use the product rather then just being for one thing.
Their Sample Pack was the first beard product I ever purchased, it came with a sample bottle of Old Money Beard Oil, Utility and Styling Balm, Sea Salt Spray, Four Vices and Old Money Beard Softener and you got all of this for $35 and this was before the ingredient change and I was a fan of both Old Money and Four Vices (Favorite Scent). However, I never purchased any other product from them due to the cost. The only explanation I can give for the new packaging and price is due to our current economy and with everything else increasing in price this would be considered a great value, if the product had not changed. However, if they are using cheaper ingredient and the scent change it may not be a loss to not purchase, unless your a previous purchaser or a super fan. I am a fan of the barbershop videos and the occasional instruction video, but I can leave it at that, unless they find a mid-range in quality of ingredient and product price, then we can all purchase a product we can feel good about and makes us feel good. Just My two cents.
Glad to hear the utility oil worked decent for you. I’ve never tried beardbrand, because of the price and some bad reviews. But considering it’s only $26 now for 4oz I might give it a try eventually… not in any rush for it. It is super sketchy to drop in price that drastically.. makes you wonder for sure! Great review as always!! 🤙🏼💯
Great video! I've always been really curious about Beard Brand as they've been an impressive business to follow (kind of like Southwest Airlines or Apple under Steve Jobs - just fascinating to watch and learn about the decisions that made them impressive as a company). I wish them continued success as they transition to a price leader model of operation. I've only ever tried their old white line from Target myself. Pricing is so subjective for each individual business and there are a lot of factors that go into setting prices aside from simply how much it costs to buy the ingredients for a product. Ultimately from a business point of view, the best price is the price your customers are willing to pay for a product. Advertising, staffing, real estate, machinery, benefits to employees, etc all play into the price mix. And if they're focusing on three scents now, that eliminates a lot of extra ingredients they previously had to purchase and focus on making. They certainly have become much more competitive against the small batch companies from just a pricing point of view,. although clearly small batch companies offer many more scents to choose from and different feel in beard, skin and hair with a variety of uniquely different carrier oils used by each company.
Yes I completely understand that. I honestly feel they have made some seriously bad choices and this is not a good direction for them. This new beard oil ( yes I know they say it's the same but it's not!!) Is horrible. The utility is ok but again how can one be $17 an ounce and one 6.25 an ounce same ingredients
@@kentuckybeardsman I believe that it’s because they were charging a LOT more for the 1 oz previously because people were buying it at that price. And if people were comfortable spending that much, can you blame them? But the economy has shifted AND there’s much more competition now and consequently I’m guessing people aren’t buying nearly as much at that price point anymore so they probably re-evaluated what they were doing and took time to simplify operations to scale back on offerings and focus on a smaller number of scents, and re-marketed their beard oil as a utility oil (which matched their utility balm) at a much lower price point because that keeps their previous customers happy that’s it’s lower priced now AND opens the door to non-bearded customers looking for body oil, tattoo oil, etc. I personally think it was a brilliant business decision for them honestly as by reducing their price point to almost a non competitive price, they’ve essentially put other companies on notice that they’re now competing on not only their ‘perceived quality’ but also specifically ON price and that will likely disrupt pricing from other companies over the next year or so who thought they could price their own products on the wings of Beard Brand’s earlier higher prices. We’ll have to see what happens but Eric has always been pretty sharp over there. I’m a big “business fan” of theirs and enjoy watching the developments.
@@FerociousBeardCompany yes I get that. Exposing your high rates by dramatically dropping the price doesn't seem very smart. I'm the last person to care what the price actually is, I pay $180 for a two ounce oil often. Lol. It's just not a smart business decision in my opinion. I've owned a business for many years and I would never charge a premium them come back to the same customer later and charge an 1/8 of the price the next time. I would loose them bc they know I ripped them off the first time. That's my point.
@@kentuckybeardsman I understand what you're saying Drew and I agree it can put a bad taste in customers mouths who have paid a premium in the past. But sometimes in business in order to do a 180, they may have just decided to bite the bullet and start a brand new chapter knowing they'll lose some customers but gain a whole bunch of new customers. I bet some that paid more before will still come back. Who knows? It's interesting to watch though and for those that like their products, I'm sure it's a welcome price drop. Besides, I'm pretty sure that most people that were paying the previously extremely high prices KNEW that they were paying way more than they would for a technically comparable oil somewhere else.
@@FerociousBeardCompany I'm curious what they did to the blend. I highly recommend trying the beard oil. It's really bad. Like honestly one of the worst. They claim nothing has changed but...... I've used their old stuff. Alot has changed. Either way it's their business not mine. Just hate seeing any company do things to hurt their products
4 oz. for $26 bucks is great if you already know you love the scent, feel in beard, and consistency. However, it's a huge price if you order it and don't really like it. Beard Brand's prior claim for their premium price was that their scents were super high-end and expensive in their Gold Line Products. Obviously not the case if they can now sell them at such a discount. I tried their white label Products from Target, and they smelled like sawdust mixed with gravel. Mediocre feel in beard, so I never went up to the Silver or gold lines that had the same carrier blend. It's hard to go from a "PREMIUM" down to a budget brand, not usually a good strategy. I wish them success, but the move was a mistake imo. However, they're probably smarter than me as they grew their brand into a multi million $ company. I wish them success.
If it smelled like sawdust it was probably their Lumber Yard scent. My dad bought me some of that for my birthday, and I was very disappointed; because that's not a scent that fits me at all.
Yes, that's what they are saying, but the old products themselves, oils, butters, ECT are not the same. I get it they say they are but anyone with a beard can tell they are such lower quality. Like dramatically. The amount they are charging compared to what they were doesn't make sense. The packaging isn't that different. I order a lot of different stuff from many distributors and have a good idea of the cost of a lot of these items. I believe, and many others as well, that they are using their name to ride it out. Definitely use the beard oil and see for yourself. Compare it to the older oils if you can get one.
An average 4oz bottle of this type is around $3-4 per piece. Yes bulk cuts that cost dramatically but compared to a thicker glass bottle it doesn't come close. The bottles they use now still cost more that the glass.
As a customer years back I tried everything from the white line to the gold line. It was not for me. As a business point of view why not make products better instead of cheaper? Keep the white line for that purpose and make your gold label stand out with a new blend that shows quality. Just my two cents.
Yeah man for sure and I'll never go against the company trying to make money cuz that is the whole purpose of a business but companies should keep it in the realm of budget-friendly for the most part. I get it there's a lot of overhead like labels and stickers and the other but I feel like a company's got to the point that they're making two and three stickers for every cent and you know doing so many other things similar to that then they can take at least half of that money and invest it into a higher quality oil or butter or something
You did not buy that 1 oz bottle of Temple Smoke for $17. They no longer sell the 1 oz bottles because they changed to the 4 oz model. In fact, they gave you that 1 oz bottle for free as they give everyone that purchases a product a free 1oz bottle to deplete the balance of their inventory of 1 oz bottles. You know how I know? Because I just purchased the same thing, a 4 oz bottle of Old Money, and got Temple Smoke for free along with the three-month daily planner. The one thing that you said that was on the level was that the scent seems weak, though still a good oil.
🔥🔥🔥🔥wooooo. Love the honesty!! Yeah bro I completely agree. They had a decent product a couple years ago and now it's something I wouldn't use on a squeeky hinge
Yes I understand that. Here is my question to you since you said that. Why would a company spend let's say $4-5 more on extra packaging instead of buying a higher quality carrier oils? Noone needs a monthly planner, stickers, 2 to 3 different style of business cards and that kinda card stuff, and then a special box that gets thrown away immediately. No one keeps more than the sticker at best
You took the words out of my mouth. I am actually angry with Beardbrand for making these changes. I actually didn't mind paying a premium price a few years ago. I thought the original 4 vices and Old Money were very special and very classy. I agree with you...they literally seem like they have been watered down. I don't know what Eric is thinking, but he lost me as a customer.
I tried them once I bought the 4oz un scented balm 15 bucks it went rancid in 2 to 3 months, I also tried lumber yard oil not impressed the scent lasted 20 minutes 👎
Something has definitely changed with this company. Ordered the new utility oil in their new scent. First off the new scent smells like 80’s cologne English Leather. Quality is not good. I’m n beard feel is terrible for my particular beard. Makes it look and feel like straw. Won’t be purchasing from this company again.
Exactly the same feel I was getting as well. It's sad they went from the biggest company ever to now using that name they built to steal money from people
