WHDH 7 News announces new news schedule for January 2017 when the station loses its affiliation with NBC.

To the folks who love WHDH, like I do, and WBTS (which I'm learning to enjoy), I accept that this is what it is. Somebody feels they need to complain to me about it. I'm sorry if you're upset with me regarding a statement I made. While I think it's sad that WBZ and NBC are no longer allies, I do accept this as it is. Thank you for your time, and rock on NBC BOSTON! :-)

WHDH is one of two stations to have been affiliated with all big 3 networks and have been an independent at some point in its history; the other is WTTV in Indianapolis.

That's exactly what happened to WSVN Channel 7 in Miami! In the fall of 1988, it no longer became the NBC affiliate, when it lost to then-CBS affiliate WTVJ Channel 4(now Channel 6)! And despite becoming Miami's FOX affiliate, WSVN never stopped airing news! In fact, Channel 7 began airing more local news than ever! And THAT, New England One, is the reason why WSVN is South Florida's News Station!

Then ironically, seven years later, CBS moves back to channel 4 and NBC to channel 6 NBC had to give up it’s channel 4 because they bought CBS’s former channel 10 in Philadelphia which they wanted for a while

Greg Palmer I was just being cynical. I know that Family Feud has sexual innuendo in it. Not only that, it's encouraged. It's also evident in the Match Game reboot with Alec Baldwin. Gee, why am I not surprised?

Hey! This is the same channel 7 that is still in use in Florida as WSVN-TV. I'm in Florida where they use the same logo and the same "7 News" branding. Both Miami and Boston used the same branding on everything.

To my best remembrance, Ansin bought HDH in late 1993. I remember seeing the "circle 7" logo in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune for its promotion.

Weirdly enough looking at the schedules, 7 News at 10 is still on CW56 but i'm guessing it's a live simulcast of the same show on Channel 7

Channel 7 has a strong news schedule. 12 and a half hours on Weekdays, 8 hours on Weekends. NBC Boston ratings have flopped and viewers are sticking with Channel 7 for News

Troy Goodwin Actually, Steve's talk show is done in Chicago...but not for long (next fall, a whole new Steve Harvey show will originate from Los Angeles). And speaking of 2 Broke Girls...KCAL airs it at 7:00 as a lead-in to their primetime news.

They can survive as an independent but they will need more than just Family Feud in syndication to prevent cable and satellite operators from trying to drop them come retransmission renewal.

TeeVee States WHDH is desperately trying to become KCAL East; both stations have Family Feud but KCAL has had a very successful primetime news block from 8:00 to 11:00 pm now since the early '90s (when Disney originally bought the station from RKO and changed the call letters from KHJ).

Well what is helping 7 is they didn't accrued any debt from like a $1b US buyout like what happened to KRON in 2000. They tried to go news heavy, and what's filling the newscast lately is crappy bleeding edge technology such as news personnel shooting video on their iPhones and doing live shots with "Live U" backpacks. Tolerable for say TWIT.tv as an example, but not appropriate for established newsgathering entities. That's why KRON has sadly become the laughing stock of the Bay Area. 7 OTTH has established news operations and equipment not worrying about paying debt off ether.

Minifig News Today If WHDH really wants to be successful as an indie, they should look at WJXT in Jacksonville, Fla.; they have remained #1 in their market even after their 2002 disaffiliation with CBS.

***** Celts has rights to NBCU's CSNNE, Red Sox is owned by NESN, and the Bruins owns 20% of NESN. If any of the area teams would air programming on 7 would most likely be the Bruins as they are least exposed to a corporate RSN and the franchise is owned locally and NHL isn't a manipulative control freak like the NFL.

It hasn't helped that WCVB is still dominating the ratings over WHDH, WBZ, WBTS & so forth. WHDH is a good station, but WCVB is still winning the newscast in Boston, fair & square.

In two years, WHDH will switch to Fox. Sunbeam will cut a deal with Fox to have WHDH as a Fox affiliate while WLVI becomes a MyNetworkTV affiliate. Then WSBK will take over the CW affiliation.

Ken Wiencko WFXT has been with Fox right from the very beginning - okay, almost; they didn’t carry Joan Rivers when it was the _only_ show, but a small radio station took it - and that ain't going to change anytime soon. Their ratings slipped a bit since losing Maria Stephanos to WCVB (she was unhappy with the ownership change from Fox to Cox), but now with WHDH as an indie, they've rebounded.

You ain't never lied. In my opinion, things went downhill in Boston TV when local programming got more and more ebbed out thanks to syndication. What injured me most was when Westinghouse and CBS came into an alliance. I get that cost goes into local TV broadcasts, and CBS owns BZ now, but that's just how I feel. It's extra sad that Ed Ansin can't even convince CBS to buy Sunbeam Television, the actual owners of 7NEWS Boston and Miami and CW56 Boston. Talk about a brain grind!

D.E. Latham NBC already affiliated WBTSLP. You want NBC to affiliate WHDH again? Well go tell NBC that you want WHDH to be affiliated again. So W BTS will disaffiliate NBC in 2018 and WHDH will affiliate NBC again in that year.

No offense, but where have you been? I never once said NBC and HDH should reconnect! NEVER ONCE did I say that!! Since you obviously think I want that, let me explain again. I was referring to the times long before the HDH/NBC hook-up happened to begin with like local programming which ended up losing popularity due to more and more syndication. I'm well aware that WBTS is the NBC affiliate, and WBZ is the CBS affiliate. That may "more than likely" NEVER change. I get that. I don't like it, but I accept it. Hey! I can dream and pretend, can't I? It is still a free country! Give me a break, will you?!

Yeah, but WHDH owner Ed Ansin would NOT allow that to happen! He did the same thing in 1988, when he didn't sell WSVN Channel 7 to either NBC or CBS! And THAT was why WSVN, South Florida's News Station, went to FOX!

Funny thing about Ed Ansin; he owned 7 Bullfinch Place long before he bought WHDH. He’s a billionaire through his real estate holdings and netted hundreds of millions on WLVI’s spectrum. NBC also prevailed by getting NBC Boston on a respectable OTA channel number with full-market coverage and upgraded Telemundo 60, so in this sense, everyone looks to have emerged a winner here.

Look N is horrible. Bloated, and a crawlspace that doesn't have headlines. Hopefully NECN (if they get Look N) will correct that space where headlines should be scrolling; and make it easier to read (and tolerate!)

WSVN became INDEPENDENT?! No. It switched to Fox when it moved from WCIX (WFOR) but the Fox lineup did not take the whole week so WSVN may look like independent...

If WSVN is still carrying Fox (owned by Disney), maybe another station in Florida will pick up a Fox affiliate until WSVN returns to independent for the first time in years where it will expand its newscasts like WHDH-TV did where it will focus on Florida including the weather on hurricanes and dangerous storms.

@@Musicradio77Network Fox is owned by Fox Corporation. ABC is owned by Disney. Only Fox's entertainment assets were merged into Disney, while the Fox network leftovers were spun-off into Fox Corporation. Disney already owns ABC, ABC News, ESPN, Freeform, etc. Fox Corporation owns Fox, Fox News Channel, Fox Sports, Fox Business, etc. Get your facts straight, people!

Actually WHDH is thriving as an independent, they remain a major player, and air more local news than any other station in town. I particularly like the extra hour of news at 9 a.m. and the hour long newscast at noon. NBC made a huge mistake lowballing WHDH's parent company, Sunbeam Television, for the purchase of the station and I'm glad they said no. NBC has a history of lowballing in trying to buy their affiliates in major markets, they did the same with KRON 4 in San Francisco. As for Boston, the "NBC 10" is an absolute mess, their newscasts and tired old NBC O&O branding have not caught on with the viewing audience. I still watch the news on Channel 7 in the evening when I get home from work even though I do have to remember to switch to watch Nightly News at 6:30, old habits die hard. NBC should start from scratch in Boston, their new network owned and operated is an unmitigated disaster.

NBC got pissed at Channel 7 also because they very rarely displayed the “NBC peacock” during the news and during other times!!! NBC,from the early 1990’s wanted the NBC peacock displayed all the time alongside the station number!! All NBC private owned affiliates MUST do this all the time or risk getting their affiliation pulled!!!

One thing to say, WHDH. WSVN went independent until the late 2000s when it signed a deal with Fox to be its affiliate since WCIX (now WFOR) lost the Fox affiliation when CBS went to that station instead of WSVN, so Fox didn't have an affiliate for a long time. Fox finally went to WSVN in the late 2000s to sign a deal.

Uh, WSVN began as a FOX affiliate in 1989 and not in 2000's. WSVN was never really an independent station but acted like one, especially when they became a FOX affiliate in 1989.

Nooooooooo! NBC, you don't need to disaffiliate WHDH. You know that WBTS LP is currently NBC Boston station, but you can't affiliate that. So you should've leave WHDH alone. You should have not affiliated WBT SLP and you should've also not disaffiliated WHDH. So NBC, re-affiliate WHDH right now or else.
