This Wheel Horse 1057 was purchased in 2009 at Rough & Tumble's Threshermen's Reunion. It had the original Kohler K series 10 Hp engine with a starter generator. The tractor ran...… barely. We actually drove it almost the whole way back to the truck before it died. The original plan was to replace the single cylinder with a 16 Hp Briggs Vanguard V-twin for tractor pulling. As time went on one thing lead to another and the 1057 ended up getting an 18 Hp Onan opposed twin engine instead. And since the Onan is a larger engine and I didn't want to deal with the oil filter being crammed against the battery like on the 520H, we moved the battery to the back of the tractor under the seat and made an all new wiring harness to accommodate the electrical system of the new engine. The main modification to the drive train is the addition of adjustable pulleys. The transmission in this tractor is still the original stock transmission with the bevel gear differential.
Several of the parts that were added for tractor pulling, such as the adjustable hitch and wheelie bars, were made by Hooker Hitch. They make a variety of parts for garden pulling tractors.
