Thanks for the detailed video. This is the section I have the most concern about replacing on my ‘68 convertible project. I’d be interested in seeing the rest of the door jamb removal and removal of the lead from the seam. Great work!
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage 8 месяцев назад
No problem 👍. The door jamb on this car wasn’t welded in at all it basically just came off. There is several spot welds normally tying it to the inner structure on the original installation. I pointed them out on the back side ringer you some idea where they were located. Now the lead propane touch and a wire brush, heat and brush away. I will try to get this on video for you.

Really like you showing the differences from coupes to convertibles. It may be little things, but very helpful information. Appreciate it.👍

I have seen convertibles reassembled without these pieces and no subframe connectors either. Makes you wonder why. Maybe they didn’t know.

Absolutely love that cutting of the top seam and later rolling it up and out. I tried this idea on the rear inner drop panel with great success. Thanks again.

Great timing for the video for me. I am removing both my full quarters off my 68 convertible next week. I already learned so much watching here. Im excited to see my end result is gonna look like as im taking full camaro quarters off my bird. Now i finally will have the louvers after 10 years of being called a camarobird! Next is removing the chevy 350 to drop in a pontiac motor! Cant wait to keep watching john! Thanks for all the great tips and knowledge. I know i appreciate you man!

Very cool! It was common years back to use Camaro parts to repair the damaged birds because the Firebird stuff wasn’t available so it was better than nothing. I am so happy the aftermarket started to produce the parts we need. Good luck on your build.

I am in the same spot as Mike above with my 69 Bird Coupe, Firewall out ,Floor gone with trunk and trunk drop offs out as well as the rear tail panel cut half out for removal of trunk .Inner wheel wells were both bad and not even welded to outer ,surprisingly enough the passenger side outer is in mint condition , Thought I would be able to replace wheel wells without cutting the quarter panels , but proving to not be so easy. Looks like I will have to cut the quarters ,as I also found they have been replaced and also overlapped Patch on both bottom quarters behind the drop downs. Would like to see the drop downs installation to trunk and Quarters ,and will be watching your videos over and over. They are very helpful and informative . Since you do Rockers so well I would also like to see a photo of the front and back of the rockers since mine are open on both ends but are in good shape inside. Sorry so long ,but I believe you would be the one to ask with your skills and talent .

Hi Jon, could you please document the location of the little Convertible Door Alignment wedges? I noticed mockingbird still has them in place and I am not sure the location is obvious on new sheet metal. Thanks

Great work! I was wondering if the body relax anymore after cutting out the damage wheel well and does the front right jackstand have weight on it?
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage 8 месяцев назад
The twist is completely relaxed after i cut the trunk floor out. The wheel well was making the passenger side 1/4 sit low in the back so it had to go.

Dad discovered in 1976 that my Firebird has a riveted in drivers rear quarter panel. My top frame was slightly bent from that accident. Did your frame survive its accident?
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage 8 месяцев назад
The top frame is no good on this car. It’s bent bad. I don’t feel it was all from this accident. Almost looks like someone opened the top while driving too fast and folded it backwards

Great video as always! I'm doing wheelhouses and quarters currently. Mine is a coupe but can't see where the front alignment hole should be to drill out. Do you happen to know the measurement where I should drill out the hole? Thanks
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage 8 месяцев назад
Good question, if you haven’t removed the old wheel welds yet they have holes that you could drill out the panel prior to removal. If they are out already the only hole you have on a coupe every time is the top one. I feel like the front bottom hole inside the 1/4 panel is hit and miss depending on the year. Is you don’t have the holes definitely test for everything including the 1/4 panels prior to burning it in

Have you seen any 69 bird's with a fold down back seat? I remember the 69 my dad had I think had one but I could be wrong he had many car's and I was very young it could be one of the other one's he had I'm not sure 🤷

Yes it was an option, not as popular i believe 1969 was the lowest production year for fold down rear seat.

Nice tip with the pliers on the spot welds! So far I have yet to find spot welds that easy on my car. It seems whoever did them was earning his salary! On the inner rockers I had to drill them all out. Strong penetration.

Must have been built mid week! It doesn’t always work but as long as it’s thin like 19 gauge or thinner seems to work ok.
