Ogier did not build the ways, but the ways were built FOR the Ogier. During the breaking Ogier let male channelers shelter in the steading where they couldn’t channel and were protected from the taint. Those male channelers built the ways as a thank you to the Ogier and as a way for the Ogier to travel quickly and avoid the longing. The majority of steadings have a way gate right outside it’s borders. The ways slowly became dark and distorted as they were created from tainted Saidin. Some modern Aes Sedai believe that the Ogier prolonged the breaking by sheltering male channelers. However, more believe that had all the male channelers gone mad at once the breaking would have been far worse.
Watching you react to the cold open was great. The actress, Magdalena Sittova, has mainly worked as a stuntwoman this far, and she did everything herself. I hope she gets more attention and bigger roles in the future. "People leave a lot while he's sleeping" kinda killed me xD Now I'm really curious to see your reaction to the finale.
just saying because I'm so proud of her - Egwene (Madeleine Madden) is not English but a Bundjalung woman (I live on Bundjalung land) that blood snow scene is so awesome, I don't know how many times I've watched it now!
Just remember your "Nothing that happens in the plot because of Mat I'm going to blame them for it- nothing, they're in the clear." for Ep8 😜🙃 I think E07 is a solid one- I loved the Min & Moraine moment in the tavern as well as all things Lan & Nynaeve. Personally I find the episodes get even better on repeat viewings, the few episodes I didn't like as much have grown on me more after repeated viewings- usually if I don't like something, repeat viewing of it increases my dislike, but with the WoT I think the more I watch certain episodes or parts of episodes, the better I understand what they are going for, which increases the likeability of them for me (granted I've only read the first 5 books thus far, but even so I can see already some arcs from books 2-5 are being set up this first season). No spoilers, just a warning not to get your expectations too high for the finale, as parts of E08 do get somewhat janky due to missing Mat (some much more than others), as apart from the arc/scenes he was supposed to be in, other arc/scenes ended up altered in order to accommodate the lack of the character. Then they got hit with another wave of covid & restrictions, which also hurt a big chunk of the episode, so they kind of ended up with a double whammy to work around for E08 apparently... I wish someone had said this to me going in (I knew about the Mat thing, but not the covid thing), as my expectations where pretty darn high given I felt each episode was improving the one before...Sooo yeah, you'll be fine if you go in with tempered expectations. I am very much looking forward to your reaction to a number of scenes in E08 😊
According to Rafe, they decided to age up all the characters (and go with sexytimes) effectively because otherwise the team felt that it would be a bit too much like Young Adult fiction, which might not be terrible but could alienate a portion of potential viewers. TBH I am quite happy with the idea, having the world saved by non-teenagers makes me feel a little more comfortable :) Ep8 does indeed diverge from the books quite a bit, but I think it's doing what it can. There is one particular scene that I think you'll like, however... 🤐
Yeah...it's extremely clear the covid regulations and mats acror leaving caused MASSIVE rewrites to be necessary...and sadly the quality of the rewrites( probably due to the time crunch they were forces into) is noticeably different compared to the rest of the season. As well as the CGI team that got decimated and you can also see the decline in quality due to that as well in the last episodes...I'm still excited and hoping season 2 will be a smoother run and therefore they will be able to tell a better story sans rewrites and other issues.

Yeah they got massively undercut by last minute changes. I can't even imagine the scramble to put something watchable together without access to the sets, the trolloc suits or the extras. And they were so rushed they didn't have time to get feedback on the scripts either. I still loved much of it though, especially the parts that suffered the least from COVID and Barney.
I do agree it would have been nice to see Caemlyn in season 1 but I think I can explain the reasoning. Caemlyn is a set piece that won't be used again until much later in the series, and there would be no certainty that they'd be able to leave it and pick it up again years later. Tar Valon is something that will be used consistently through the course of the whole series, and a lot of the scenes about the politics of Aes Sedai are pulled from the begining of book 2. So their reasons are probably tied up in cost/logistics and the condensing of the books into a series.
They were also able to use the set for both Shadar Logoth and Tar Valon. Makes sense to me production wise...but I'm not a book reader...so I don't have the connection to the locations book reader would. 🤷♀️
Also, they weren't able to cast the Trakands or Elaida for just the palace scenes, and without those going to Caemlyn would've been a big waste of screen time and money. It's a shame, but getting all that Aes Sedai intrigue in the tower seems like making lemonade out of lemons. And I love lemonade.
@@jameslitherland3261 Casting would have been a problem because as we see with the actor who was cast as Ingtar, you can’t be sure of getting recurring actors back for future seasons. Better to introduce the characters at Tar Valon in season two. Another problem is when would they have introduced all of these characters. The show was pretty judicious about introducing new characters while we were still learning the main seven. Episode 2, we got the Whitecloaks; Episode 3 gave us Thom and the Tinkers; Episode 4 introduced other Aes Sedai and warders; Episode 5 brought in Loial; Episode 6 was Siuan; and Min and the Shienarans are new in this episode. I can’t see how they could introduce the Trakands and Elaida without overwhelming viewers.
The cast shake up and covid weirdness is much more obvious next episode. May I make a suggestion? Could you remind us where you've read up to next video? That way those of us who have read the whole series can avoid spoiling you for future books. Some of this episode is taken from book 2, and there are things set up at the end of next episode that could provoke spoiler-y comments up through the fourteenth book! There's a lot here that is set up in season 1, but I'm still enjoying it, and I think all the difficulties due to Barney's exit and covid filming problems can be manipulated into the plot. (Don't come at me purists, I've read the books several times over.)

That said, if you have evidence of your theory, please let us know. Otherwise you are just spreading rumors about a person who is not here to defend himself.

You clearly have an axe to grind about vac mandates, he has no reason to 'defend' himself, he has every tight to refuse a mandate if that's why he chose to leave? Pretty sure amazon as a company could demand a vac for its employees and could also provide them regardless of what's available to a particular filming location. Until he or someone releases an official reason for him leaving people will speculate regardless of your personal political feelings
Well the last two episodes suffered a lot from Barney leaving and COVID rules. It created many holes in the metaphysics, plot and lore. I hope we fix that in season2. I bet they will
Epic opening fight, in labor and not even born Aiel, just wait until we see the rest of them, I did like season 1 in spite of some issues, I think season 2 will be better
Great episode indeed. The cold open it was the best in general not only for WoT. Showrunners, put a lot of hints for Rand. But, in the end, that has created problem with likeability of Rand. In fact, a lot of viewers non book reader are disappointed and they even think that it's not him, that it is only in his head. Plus the keep saying about whining and stuff without even thinking about what is possibly going on with him: identify crisys discovering that Tam isn't his father, about him being DR, Egwene that wants to be a Wisdom first, Aes Sedai second and so on..
