The last time I flew was a nightmare, when leaving Orlando the TSA screened my chair separately from me for about 20 minutes. I believe they removed a pair of screws from my backrest. When we arrived home they took forever to bring my chair up, when it finally arrived, the gate attendants were very apologetic because my backrest was completely separated from my chair. It took 15 minutes but I fixed it enough to get going and finally caught up with my family.

@@eoindarkside I sure they do. I am sure they are authorized in potential financial crimes, sex trafficking and copywriter infringement. But that’s not not their mission. Anything else is a distraction for doing what they should be doing. Baby powder on wheelchair from the user putting it on ti prevent chafing? Cocaine. $3000 in a carryon bag? Drug dealer. Stepdad traveling alone with stepdaughter? Sex trafficking. These people are not sufficiently trained to do anything other than look at an X-ray machine and grab crotches. I worked in management for one of the largest security companies in the US. We even assisted TSA because their turnover was so bad. In the bottom levels of security, one of the biggest challenges was keeping the cowboys, Rambos and Reachers in check. Some live in a dreamworld. Oh man, some of the lawsuits…

Thank you for this video clip. I am a wheelchair user part time and need help walking (I will not be able to walk thru the scanner by myself) if I bring my wheelchair with me and decide to have my dad help me walk thru is that a possibility? Or will I have to be searched like this wonderful man did? I just dont like people touching my scars 😕
@VeronicaAndBradMorris
@VeronicaAndBradMorris 3 года назад
Not wanting people to touch your scars is totally understandable. I wish you could just avoid that! You can tell them about your sensitive areas so they're extra careful where you need them to be. If you're embarrassed to say it out loud, you can hand them a piece of paper that describes your needs. You can also call TSA Cares before you fly to have them help you get set up to go through security and with any related concerns. A lot of people like to do that. They've made fillable cards available, too, if you want your needs note to look more official and maybe more familiar to them. Unfortunately, you can't have anyone (like your dad) touching you when you go through the scanner. You can't use a cane or anything either, it has to be unaided. Plus if you go through the body scanner, you have to stand there with your arms up for several seconds-Brad tried doing this one time and it was a disaster for his condition. It can help to remind yourself that these people are well trained and professional. They aren't bothered by your disability, they aren't getting excited by touching you, they are just doing their job all day long. We try to be nice and understanding of that, communicate clearly with them, and then every TSA agent we've come across has returned our respect and courtesy. If you prefer not to be patted down in public, just ask them to do it in an area away from the public-that's your right. Best of luck!

@@VeronicaAndBradMorris You can definitely use a cane to go through the metal detector (which is what a disabled person would use). @VeronicaAndBradMorris
@VeronicaAndBradMorris 5 лет назад
I don't think who owns the wheelchair will make any difference to them. Contact TSA cares and talk with them about your condition. Can you walk at all? If so, you might wish to be wheeled up to the body scanner, walk through, and have a chair waiting on the other side. This way they don't have to touch you. We did that once, but it was so draining for Brad to get up and stand even for a few seconds that he was ruined for the rest of the day. But it would be an ideal way to avoid a pat down.

They get paid upwards of $20 an hour plus government benefits, and they actually have caught many people with firearms (loaded to). Just last year they caught over 3,000 loaded firearms, not to mention all the test the DHS does on them with fake bombs and all that. I am glad they protect me.

Why are you letting people pet and talk to your service dog? True service dogs are working and have to have their full attention on their handler at all times. I heard you say "he's friendly you can pet him", what's that about?
@VeronicaAndBradMorris
@VeronicaAndBradMorris 8 лет назад
+Kristina Yori People with service dogs can decide how they want their dogs to interact with the public. Personally I let people pet my service dog if they ask, or they seem to be respectfully admiring him from a distance. He enjoys the interaction, and I only do it when I am doing OK. If I am having issues, I don't let people pet. But it is really an individual preference. With my current SDIT Hestia, I am working on her interactions with other people, so I even ask people who look like they have good dog sense to give her a treat (I provide the treat) and interact with her. Part of every service dog test I've seen involves the dog being pet by a stranger.

LOL, looks can be deceiving! We don't know yet what is wrong with Brad, but his legs don't work properly, he can't walk more than a few steps (while using crutches) at a time due to fatigue. We hopefully are getting a muscle biopsy soon and maybe that will give us some clue to what is going wrong.
@VeronicaAndBradMorris
@VeronicaAndBradMorris 9 лет назад
Chase M I was replying to another comment and saw this one again. Figured I would give an update if anyone reads these comments. Brad's doctors say that he has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, otherwise know as Myalgic Encephalitis. But they are not sure. Hopefully he will be getting MedicAid soon in South Carolina (we just moved), and then we can resume going back to more doctors and hopefully really pinning down a diagnosis.
