I'm disabled myself, & occasionally you find a person who feels absolutely entitled just because they're disabled, usually because they've been babied for it, which seems to be his case. He really thought the PD wasn't going to do anything to him, he really thought he was going to get away w/ lying about it, & he's still trying to. He's entitled, arrogant, & spoiled, & I can pretty much guarantee it's because he's gotten away w/ everything just because he's in that chair.

I wish the late quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan were still around (RIP) for this one. He had a wicked sense of humor about things like this. His work really helped me work through my issues via laughter when i became disabled.

They charged him with assault with a deadly weapon on an officer and is facing 10 years. This was unnecessary, the cops didn't need to arrest him. It would cost tax payers millions to house a quadriplegic in jail. Since he can't be placed into a normal jail setting due to his disability, he'd have to go to a secured medical facility. This would cost thousands per day. He would need medical equipment and staff for his daily needs. To feed, wash and change him daily. It would cost around $10,000 or more per day. Lets say its 10k and he gets 10 years. 10k x 3,650 days (10 years) that's $36,500,000. All of this for bumping someone with a slow ass wheelchair. They could of just him simple assault for spitting and write wrote a site and release ticket, but they had to be dicks and cause all this drama. A good lawyer will get the deadly weapon charge dropped, and he'll just get the spitting charge and will only receiver probation because of him condition. In my opinion he wouldn't go to jail he has get house arrest at the worst cause it be a nightmare to house him.

I watched the body cam footage. The guy got mad that they were arresting his mom and said he wanted to go with her. He was doing what he could to piss the cops off and ending up getting arrested.

People in wheelchairs are people like anyone else. Most of them are nice, some of them are not. Having a disability doesn’t necessarily mean being unable to act like a bully. That said, police must take particular precaution when arresting someone in a wheelchair. I hope this man has a good lawyer, reaches a fair plea deal, and gets a good therapist.

Dude was like bashing his wheelchair into police officers because they had to arrest his mom because he himself had called the police on her. Once again, HE called the cops on his mom, the officer said he had to arrest the mom, he said don’t do it and attacked the officers. It made no sense…

Out of experience, most disabled people do use the whole "theyre disabled they couldn't hurt anyway" victim card. Not all, some. I had a man who had one arm and it didn't work who was a nasty PoS. I was the only one in the shopping centre he came to who was nice to him. Till he tried to attack me, hes also assaulted customers in a different store, got banned for two years a while ago for attacking security guards, and got banned for spitting on kids working at subway. Dude played the victim card coz he looked like he couldn't do anything but hes got an arrest warrant for him now for attacking two taxi drivers, including the previous listed stuff and more

The problem here is that there are a lot of wheelchair bound disabled people who will use their disability as an excuse to act like twats. I ended up leaving disability care work because after nine years, I'd just had enough of the abuse, the amount of times I'd been assaulted and how every company I worked with would say that anything negative the client did was immediately my fault. I had a client try and run me over because I had to stop him from sitting his wheelchair in the middle of traffic. But of course, that is my fault because he has the right to act how he sees fit. But if he did get hit, then they'd ask why I didn't do anything. Jobs like nursing, aged and disability care are such thankless jobs and people don't seem to realise that. It's even worse when one person does something bad now every worker has to deal with it. Anyway thanks for attending my TED Talk.

It only takes 1 person acting stupidly in a wheelchair to make them all look entitled. I worked with a person who controlled his chair with a mouth piece you blow in and out of. We were in a crowded restaurent and I offered to push his chair to avoid hitting anything, he insisted and ended up hitting a few people in chairs and tables, arriving and when leaving. And sadly he did not even apologize. Others I've worked with were happy to have someone push and navigate their motorized, several hundred pound mini tanks through crowded restaurents, to avoid accidentally hittin others. Like I said it only takes one, and this guy is entitled as hell. Educated person my ass.

Wow. The guy absolutely deserved to be arrested. However, I believe the police department was wrong to deny him wheelchair-accessible transport to the police station. They could have assigned officers to drive and guard him inside a wheelchair-accessible minivan, taxi, minibus, etc. I understand that could be outside their patrol guidelines, but people in wheelchairs often require specialized seating to keep them upright, eliminate pain, etc. It feels inhumane to deny him that, regardless of him committing a crime.

I work in long term health care & let me tell you when you get run over by those chairs it hurts! Some will do it in purpose some by accident. Either way that shit hurts!
