WHEELER PEAK SUMMIT GREAT BASIN NATIONAL PARK, NEVADA

Located at Great Basin National Park in Northeastern Nevada about a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas is Wheeler Peak. Wheeler Peak is Nevada's 2nd tallest peak in the state. The hike to the top is 8.6 miles round trip with 2,900 ft of elevation gain and labeled as very hard! In this video I walk you through the hike on how to be prepared and what to expect on this awesome hiking adventure! I absolutely loved this hike and I am so glad to have finally conquered the mighty Wheeler Peak!

VICTORY!!!!!!!! This was awesome Eric. I think it was your personal best, and you brought everyone along on your journey to see it. I liked how you kept taking telling yourself you can do it. Slow and steady, plenty of water, food and breaks is definitely the the key to tough hikes like these, especially with ones in high elevation. I used to push myself hard to the destination, and had several occasions when I felt I was not going to make it back without search and rescues help. I have learned from those times to take it easy going out and coming back, and when to turn around and head back, even if you didn't make it to the finish. The other thing I like about this video, and your others is the honesty of the hike. A lot of hiking creators make there hikes look like it was a piece of cake, but you tell it and show it like it is. Double thumbs up buddy. 👍👍

Yeah I wanted to do this video a lot differently because of the magnitude of this hike. I really needed to be very informative and helpful as far as planning and what to expect. I'm really hoping that a lot of people watch this and will be able to conquer this mountain as well with the help of good advice! I have watched some other videos on this same hike and you are right they did not explain how hard this hike was and acted like it was a total piece of cake. To be totally honest with you I knew this hike was gonna be hard but it was even harder than I expected. Of course when I made it to the top it was so totally worth it and the feeling of accomplishment is priceless! I am extremely happy you thought this video was my best! It definitely an awesome and challenging hiking experience that I really wanted to share with others. Thank you so much brother and I totally appreciate your awesome comments 😀. Wow, 5 hour drive from home, then a hard hike but just as well you hot this early doors, do not want to get caught out in a thunderstorm. Absolutely over the moon for you Eric on hitting 1K, so well deserved and so unbelievable you are not there ages ago to be honest. Great hike with stunning views but it looked a real tough one and that final push really did look like a doosy but so, so worth it, breathtaking view. Love all the wind shelters but good to see you did not actually need one, all you have to do now is the highest summit in Nevada! Well done Eric, cheers Alan

Yes I am very happy to finally hit 1K subscribers! It's been a long time coming but the moment has finally arrived! The 5 hour drive is definitely well worth it to hike in this beautiful national park! This was a very hard hike and now I know how you feel when you summit those English Peaks for the first time! I loved following you on this hike, it was probably your best vlog so far Eric. Amazing hike and view all the way! The great thing about it is you can keep your eyes on the price the whole time. Oh rocky trails are the worse! What an accomplishment to hike all the way up! I felt a bit emotional when you were at the top and you seem really tired but so thrilled to have done, so happy for you. We are so proud of you too, you rocked it!!! Big high five! What is your next big peak/goal?

I definitely wanted to totally do this video different because I want to help future Wheeler Peak Summit hikers be prepared and totally know what they were in store for. I was very sad and disappointed when I wasn't able to do this hike a month ago because of really bad altitude the day before the hike. This time around I was way better prepared to not let that happen this time around. It was a crazy hard climb but I was going to make it to the top! Yes when I did get up there all the hard work really paid off! I really appreciate you guys rooting for me to make it to the top 😆👍. My next big hike is going to be Mt Charleston Peak via the South Loop Trail in hopefully 2-3 weeks. It will be a long hard climb but it's a smooth trail without the rocky scrambling like this one. Really happy you enjoyed this adventure/ Vlog and hopefully I can do a bit more stuff like this in the future. Thanks again and have a wonderful Weekend!

Yeah really been doing harder and longer hikes lately in general and it's been awesome! This hike is one you definitely have to take your time with or you will exhaust yourself too quickly! But like you said the views were absolutely amazing and worth it. Thank you so much for watching Shane!

Great views wow! I went to Great Basin with my mom last February it was snowed in like crazy. We did Lehman caves though

Yeah I've actually done Lehman caves twice and it was the 1st cave I had ever done at the time. It's really awesome and I believe it's closed now because of Covid! The views were definitely very incredible but on this hike you absolutely have to earn it to make it to the top. Thanks for watching my friend.

This hike was totally no joke and I absolutely felt wonderful when I made it to the top and then back down safely 😁. Congrats on 1k. I tried to do this one but i rushed it and the altitude destroyed me. I think if i took a few breaks I could have made it. Going back in a couple weeks to check this one off the list.

Thank you so much my friend! Yeah finally hitting the 1K mark made me very happy 😊. Don't feel bad I tried to do this hike when I was here a month ago and I got really sick on the lower elevation hikes the day before. I had to abort doing this one the next day. So I ended up doing some higher elevation hiking at Mt Charleston Griffith Peak and in Breckenridge Colorado then gave this another shot. I made sure I was also very hydrated and well fed before and during the hike. I am sure you will bang this one out on your next try! Always so nice to hear from you my friend and thank you for your continued support.

Well to be honest when you this is my very 1st time doing a peak that's 1300 ft high! I would just say start off with easy short hikes and and little-by-little start doing longer and harder hikes. Someone who's barely ever hiked before would definitely not do too well on a hike like this. I do really appreciate you checking out this video and your comments 😀.
