In early 2017, the City of Victoria submitted a proposal to Frontline Plus to have a new siren installed at their elementary school, which was outside of the existing system’s coverage (consisting of three WPS-2906s and a WPS-4004). Frontline responded with a quotation sheet for the installation of a WPS-2910, which was quoted as having the same coverage as their existing WPS-4004 on the other side of town. The city approved funding for the project in March, and the installation of the new siren took place during the spring. The install is very nice aside from the premature lean, but I do not know what caused that for certain. Following the discovery of this information a few months ago, I knew I had to go see this for a test at some point, as it is the first large Whelen 2900 in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. Following the Allertor test this morning (that’s called foreshadowing), Asa and I decided to go here for the afternoon test. Along the way, Zach and Josh informed us that they would also be going with after learning about where we were going. We arrived with plenty of time to spare, and set up on a ridge just east of the siren. Carver County began sending out the activation tones right on time, with Victoria’s strand coming through near the end due to them being in alphabetical order. You can hear a few of Chaska’s 2001s before it starts if you listen closely. This was pretty damn loud up close, one of the loudest electronic sirens I have heard up close in fact. I would highly recommend hearing one of these big honkers up close if you haven’t. Thanks for watching, and enjoy!
Carver County tests their siren system on the first Wednesday of every month at 1PM March-October, weather permitting.
